Was it the Haitians in Exuma? We need to know...these people are playing with the lives of my family and friends...why are they so secretive with information concerning the overall Health and well being of the Bahamian populace?Remind me again what are we paying them for? I thought Nottage's return was saying soemthing...he has truly shown that he wasnt ready then and he isnt ready now...what a loser! (http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=8327)

i thought that they took back claims of a malaria outbreak, though. is there still one underway? i was under the impression that the canadians raised all manner of hell at first, but then recanted. what's the status?
As I understand it, three things need to be in place for Malaria to start in a country that nominally does not have it.
1. Infected persons
2. Standing water for the mosquitos to breed
3. The Anopheles mosquito.
There are many people here that come from countries where the disease is common. It is safe to say that there must be some folks that have had the disease and could be carriers. We have plenty of standing water. These two things alone cannot cause an outbreak The third element must be in place - the Anopheles mosquitoes to transmit the illness. The question is “How did they get here?” Could it be that they were accidentally imported? A boat coming from an infected country carrying drinking water that was uncovered in there home port might contain the larvae. Anything on deck that could hold water could have contained the larvae as well. We have a lot of boats that come and go in our waters.
Just a thought.

I cant see the MOH dragging their feet on this one. Last I heard they had seriously promised they were going to find out where the disease came from and how it got here.
There is the potential for causing much illness and also damaging our main industry. Hope the up coming election doesn't cause them to keep their findings under wraps.

I still say that tracing down those with Malaria is a waste of time if one wishes to eradicate the disease. It is not a waste in a medical sense, those people need treatment - quickly!
What we need to do is find out how the mosquitos got here and destroy those that are here with a vigorous, systematic, and regular spraying program.

well they did say...that they vaccinized 100s of people...that's alot of people...and some folks arent being as forthcoming as we would like with information that can affect and kill many of my friend and family and fellow Bahamians...(standup carey & nottage)...We are The Bahamas...this is shameful...we are on the brink of first world status...as we would like to believe and this is the thanks we get...Thank you PLP for the slippery slope!
immigration mussy een on the island...oops with the "Commodore" being a Bahamian of "mixed" stock (and raised in Haiti b/c he ma say he need the Haitian culture) and all the issues he got going on over at RBDF you wonder if "he wah do us right in" just like that "brokeback snake" and sit on us...you wonder why the cries of "they tryin' to take over" are so strong these days...It all makes sense now...a national disgrac..e if I ever see...boy I tell yah!
