View Full Version : Miss Bahamas Universe Pageant
bahamiangoddess 07-10-06, - 11:56 PM I just finished watching Miss Bahamas Universe and I vex. I vex because I am tired of the committee sending these girls to Miss Universe who can't win. The three finalists tonight was just as disappointing as their answers. The question was based on the achievements of women and why it is important for women to still compete in pageants. One contestant answered, but it was not related to the question, the next contestant half answered and the last one cried before she gave a teary eyed answer filled with sniffles. The bad thing is that the three of these women will represent the Bahamas abroad at different pageants. After all the publicity in the media for the past few weeks about the expensive crown and all the jeweller, it all climaxed with a teeny weeny bang. Some of the girls who did not make the finals spoke very well during their interview session. The contestants said that they had 10 weeks of extensive training frankly, they should have had more. One of the roles of Miss Bahamas Universe is to be a spokesperson for the Bahamas, it will be difficult to effectively rely your platform when you are not a good speaker. The girls were lovely and so were the dresses but, you will need more than that to win Miss Universe. I think we need to raise the bar for entry to the pageant. When the Bio's of the contestants for Miss Universe is read, it is not uncommon to find doctors, lawyers and other professionals in the pageant. Until we can attract contestants of a higher calibre, we will continue to only see Miss Bahamas at Miss Universe when she introduces herself. The Bahamas has the talent, it just needs to be harvested.

Lawwwwwd why you gon start dis thread!!!! lol. I still need closure after watching that disgrace of a pageant. Sorry to whoever on BI might be related to one of the contestants - but if thats the best the Bahamas has to offer - pay we best we close up shop right nah.
When you say they cant win you een lie. It appeared that none of the girls but one (based on their comments anyway) are/were even college students. All contestants in Miss Universe have atleast a Bachelors degree, and are persuing Masters and Doctorates.
They are always articulate, always WELL trained, always well versed on global issues...they hair aint JACKED UP...lawd that pageant upset me.
Now I will conceed that perhaps the benefits of being Miss Bahamas arent sufficient to attract college students here to take a year off from school to be a queen, but LORDY look at who we be sending man!
I see why the Miss Universe pageant committee sent us a letter a few years back warning us that we would lose our franchise if we keep sending the calibre of girls we had been sending!
chancellor 07-11-06, - 12:04 AM I think the pagent and its contestants was better than some other pagents....minus the tears.
It would depend on how much experience they have had. No one who has never been in a pagent should just jump into Miss World. And you need more than just one pagent too. You see some of the other girls around the world, they have been in pagents since they could walk! Virtually a carrer.

lol! gal u crazy nah! lol :bouncy: Man even the dirt poorest countries around the world be sending the best girls in da dirt-floor hut they could sculpt and train...why?
Yes we know pageants at the scale of Miss Universe have their own politics involved, but countries know that the person they send says something to the world about their nation.
So having said that.............

well these countries have millions of people too...its nothing to wash up some scratching poor girl from hut A with tin roof shack in the country and give them some etiquette classes , a good hair scrubbing and fierce cut a bikini wax and some new clothes...and they good to go...(Im serious)
...with us...all a us is family sow e all look the same and we all know each other...but I found it strange that one girl tried four or five times before she won the crown...that's a no no...and then one girl who won she works for the fast ferry people now...surely Ms. Bahamas could have a better post...but then maybe it just is telling of the dismal and undiversified economic climate in the country...

bahamiangoddess 07-11-06, - 12:26 AM Another thing, what's with the girl with the bald head??? To me that was not very feminine for a pageant.
