I have no ides about that. If that happened, no doubt there will be noise sooner or later. Now why would the dredging be held up?

RockWell 09-12-06, - 10:19 PM Anyone heard that Ginn has fired all the Bahamian employees and is preparing to fire the local expats too? Story has it that Ginn's dredging permits are being held up... They looking for engineers tho. You aint get the memo?:D Dudley 09-13-06, - 12:51 AM Good luck gettin dat price out there.Unless they reopen that old airport, buyers will be very depressed after driving thru da poverty of 8 mile rock dose.Erryting from Freeport harbour west is impoverished. Very true indeed....what they have is a bunch of overpriced plans to build overpriced lumps of concrete-based monstrosities on what used to be wet lands. The mosquitos and sand fleas will still be there, no matter how much money you throw at them. If GB Power doesn't improve it's equipment, then the extra drain from 'Versigh' is goin to affect everyone...lets see the millionaires moan and complain when they have to get their own gas-there ain't too many gas stations out there either! Dem say that this will 'revitaise' GB- Bull...it will make jobs for gardeners and cleaners and some janitorial staff, but what this place needs is REAL jobs. (Sorry-I'm goin off-topic here) futureambassador 02-13-07, - 02:55 AM Another member made a very important point, Freeport is surely hurting. We all know that the initial idea for Freeport was to make it the industrial headquarters of the Bahamas, that approach has not been as successful so we decided to go with the rest of the nation by enhancing our tourism sector. Tourism is not a great industry because it fluctuates, that is not to say that we shouldn't take an opportunity that can open up the doors for many unemployed individuals in Grand Bahama. For those that are complaining about this new development and how it wont provide jobs, how about you compare it to Atlantis for a second? If Atlantis closed down today...do you think Nassau will be in a good situation? I thought not. Dredging and drastic changes of Paradise Islands topography took place yet Atlantis provides THOUSANDS of jobs for many Bahamians. Many of which weren't qualifed and recieved training from the company. Again, I am not saying that this is the best investment but what else is there right now? Give it a chance, see what happens. Bahamians please stop being scared of change. By the way the West End airport will be opened for operations again, I'm not sure if it will be commercial or private as yet. Sources are saying that it will be owned and operated by Ginn. |
