View Full Version : Good People
Prince Kassad 07-13-06, - 08:42 AM I write this not knowing where excatly to post it. You see this topic cover so many threads.
I was speaking to a colleague and was thinking how lucky the Bahamas for all the perils we have avoided. (terrorist attacks, castrophic natural disasters etc) and he starts to tell me the story of sodem and gamora (i think i spelt it right) and i told him i know of the story what is your point. He told me that God said to show me some rightoues people and i would spare the city and he could find one and so the city was destroyed. Then he said that is the reason why the Bahamas is still here despite all the evils we have in this country there are still some genuine good Bahamians out there.
One of these people is my mother, who after 30 years retired from national insurance. While employed at NIB she worked in pensions and sickness benefits. She would come home with sotries of people she met that need help in this country, some people with stories that would shock most. Although raising 5 kids on a gov salary she would still find ways to help these people out by giving old clothes toys or can goods.
Now that she is retired she is very active involve in church. During a recent outreach program her church decided to go and feed the old people in the farm road area. She said that people always are checking for the old what happen to the children, so they decided to feed the children instead. Within in 15 minutes on saturday may 13 2006 they had served some 200 meals and with more kids there looking for food. This touched my mother because there were so many children left hungry at the drive. She made a sugestion to the church that they need to do this more often. At first the man at the church said he would lend his support, a month later he said that the church cannont afford this program (note this is a church with over a million dollars in the bank), she told him that it is ok and he support to loan her the bus and aid with people in the serving, 3 weeks after that people stop lending thier support and the bus was taken away, She turn to her kids (we are all grown by the way) and requested our help and every week one for her 5 kids donate the money for her food drive. At chruch on sunday he the man tells my mom that she is a retired person and shouldnt be spending her money on this project (i still dont understand how a man of God can say such a thing). She replied that dont worry about my pocket because yall dont want to help the needy people of the community. Since then she has continued her little pet project and people told her to go see MP Griffin or an opposition MP but she decline because she dont want MPs to explioit these people for political gain.
I worte this for the following reason.
1:The church has lost it way when it forget that it's mandiate is to help the less fortunate and not worry about how much money they have in the bank.
2: These MPs claim all is gritz and gravey in their area (Urban renewal) but it is truly failing and if we open our eyes we can see it.
3: I have not lived a sin free life but the Heavenly Father continues to bless me, This is not by accidents,
4: I am sure there are some more unsung heroes in our midst that do the right thing for the right reasons and it is because these people that we still have a bless society that we all take for granted.
It is people like your Mom, and your family that gives, that keep “good Karma” as we Buddhists put it, in the nation and the world. God bless her!

What a lovely and gracious woman you call Mommy. These are the people who shoudl be honoured at all these award ceremonies. Tell your mom we thank her from the bottom of my hearts....this is farm road you say and whose constituency is this again...what a shame...what's the church name again so I really wont go!
maybe your mom can form her own red hat society its very civic in nature without all the church leaning and all the members are there because they have common interest...I think she'd like it...do they even have one here?
lynette 07-13-06, - 11:18 AM Like your nickname says, you come from a royal line.:hammer:
WinterGrace 07-13-06, - 01:25 PM It's a such a shame that the pastor turned down your mother. What kind of example is he?
Your mother and your siblings will be greatly blessed beyond measure. One of those kids will grow big and strong and will remember your mother and your family. You would be surprise your mother maybe helping the next Prime Minister of the Bahamas. :)
Please pm me if you need any assistance, I would love to help as well.
Bahamasinmyheart 07-13-06, - 02:03 PM It is people like your Mom, and your family that gives, that keep “good Karma” as we Buddhists put it, in the nation and the world. God bless her!
i'm a second that. Its nice to hear about good people doing good things. Reminds me of my mom. She's an example of what we should all strive for.
kempi 07-13-06, - 02:41 PM Yes, there is still some good Bahamians out there. Your mom is one, may the almighty God continue to bless her always.
We need more to give to the needy. Bahamians are generally kind hearted people.
Back in the day Bahamians use to get together and roast corn, have barn fire, and we all knew one another. anyone could have gone to the other one's house and eat and sleep - I loved those days!
Remember people the more you help the poor God will continue to bless you always, for sure.
We are all here to help each other.
Bron Bahamian 100%
Prince Kassad 07-13-06, - 03:22 PM Thank you all for the nice remarks, i will show my mom the thread to let her know that people still care.
bahamiangoddess 07-13-06, - 03:36 PM I applaud your mom, there are still some good people left. As I read your story it has reminded of the suffering of many of our brothers and sister today. Many may fail to believe that in 2006 there are Bahamian children who go to bed hungry. The living conditions and the plight of a lot of people is distressing, especially in Grand Bahama, despite what the politician may say, people are suffering. There is an area call Garden Villas, a walk through there will make you cry. People living in apartments where you can see straight inside while the door is closed, no light or running water. Children lined up for summer jobs because this will decide whether they go to school in September or not, yet the jobs are used as political favours. Hearing some of those who get jobs, talk about the kind of phone or tennis they are going to buy, while others contemplate if the pay is enough to buy uniform and books. There has to be a better way.
Tell your mom keep up the good work. I hope this ain't Mother Pratt constituency.
B.B.F&C 07-13-06, - 09:38 PM Prince Kassad, Im new to this site but just wanted to say people like your mom make me proud to be Bahamian. There are many good still among us
pharoah 07-13-06, - 10:03 PM Your mom and the few people like her epitomize what the teachings of christ is all about. Unfortunately, many so call christian has forgotten or conveniently forgets that the basic teaching of jesus is all about servantship. To many of our churches are preaching that gain is godliness hence creating greedy and selfish folks. Kudos to your mom and may God continue to bless her. She is a woman with a heart!
