i think the airport should stay "THE NASSAU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT" they can name something else after sir lynden. as for sol, i agree the airport might need some fixing up but dont degrade it by calling it the worst. if that is the case he can establish an airport over P. I. and show us what the best airport is.

a nice little pad on the golf course :-)
People come to the Bahamas to play golf, or use the beach...

Why they ever got rid of the PI airport is beyond me.

I can understand Kerzners' point. He wants the big "Butter and Egg Men" to arrive in style at a first class airport, not the one that used to be at PI that catered to dinky planes and broke down Flying boats.

P.S. I liked the PI airport! It was very convenient to me, but then I just live here!

A new airport is coming, you just have to use the "Bahamian time multiplier".
Its the square of importance of the project * the reactive thinking of our politicians. Then for every 1000 dollars that the project needs you add 20 days.

Take Harold Road, T G Glover, the straw market, blue hill road, tucker road. They coming, they just ga take a while.

I have a theory and its this, things like the airport, I feel that they should go ahead and re-build/renovate it. Yea, it may be costly, but its something you can tax to make revenue from. In addition, its the first thing a tourist sees when they arrive, and the last they see when they leave. And what is our largest industry?

I think it is really sad that it takes the word of an investor to put some fire under the gov't to work on the airport. You would think that with all of the trips Perry and Mitchel have been taking lately they would take some shame at the state of our own airport and push for change.

There is little doubt that he, Mr. Kerzner, is correct. However, I am a bit concerned that every time Mr. Kerzner does not like something we have to change it - but I know where he is coming from. He wants excellence - we on the other hand have learned to live without it.
I am sure there are international standards for airports. All we have to do is find out what they are and do it. Paying for it is another question. :(
maybe the Chinese will help us pay for it!:voodoo:

Paying for it should have been little problem. there is something like a $10 fee for leaving the airport? $10 x 4 million visitors a year.. $40 million dollars for the past 10 years at least... that is a VERY nice airport. The problem of course is that most of the people that collected those fees put the money directly in their pockets!

4 Million tourist have never left Nassau International in a year; maybe Price George Warf....
What is it.... 80% of revenue collected by the government goes to pay salary?

The airport is in terrible conditions. I've seen worse though.

Also, did the Caribbean Tourism Organization ever form a resolution to collectively levy a tax on cruise ship visitors? This has been dragging on to long. Are they still scared it will run cruise chip visitors?

Mr. Kerzner is correct but privatizing the airport is the way to go. It’s universal.

Sounds like a great idea Rory! Maybe Kerzner can pull it off one of these years!

The decision has already been made to name it SLOP. It is not the worst airport. It has gotten much better. It will get better still when it is run by professionals. Politicians and politics are what messes up every agency and institution in this country and others.

If the govt is insisting on naming it after Sir Lynden, all they have to do is leave out the name Oscar. Then it will be the Sir Lynden Pindling Airport, thus eliminating the SLOP.
