SLP, LOP, SLOP .. no matter which they cut it, his name isnt right for an airport .. they may as well call it PLP airport :p

I don't see why the current regime feel the airport needs to be renamed. Unless Lady Pindling would like to donate a portion of his estate to have the airport repaired or upgraded, I don't see a reason to name it after him. If Kerzner is willing to donate money for the repairs, we could rename a wing of the airport after him too. ;)

4 Million tourist have never left Nassau International in a year; maybe Price George Warf....
What is it.... 80% of revenue collected by the government goes to pay salary?
The airport is in terrible conditions. I've seen worse though.
Also, did the Caribbean Tourism Organization ever form a resolution to collectively levy a tax on cruise ship visitors? This has been dragging on to long. Are they still scared it will run cruise chip visitors?
Mr. Kerzner is correct but privatizing the airport is the way to go. It’s universal.

Keep in mind that Freeport Airport (FPO) is private (owned by GBPA) and the most expensive airport for airplanes to use in the hemisphere. Privatization is not the answer when it comes to airports, in my opinion.

Anyone notice how long it takes to get from the curb to the departure lounge? The first xray machine you go through serves no purpose unless they consider that the checked baggage screening area. The upstairs xrays are always backed up in lines and set so sensitive that ladies glitter makeup makes it go off.

The departure lounge PA system is impossible to understand, they banned smoking in that tiny bar, the wi-fi never works, Chinese made souvenier T shirts cost $36 dollars, and that bit@h that works at the bar deserves to be shot for her bad attitude.

As someone else said before, NIA is the first and last place you see, but that bartender that won't look at people, suck teeth when she has to get her fat butt off her milkcrate chair and leave the food she's always stuffing down her neck, and then charges $10 for a Kalik has got to be the worst interaction between a tourist and a tourist destination ever. Written complaints wont get her fired, which makes me wonder which politician shes related to.

NIA is horrible, both domestic and int'l terminals. It's not 'the worst' airport in the world, but it's far from acceptable and must be replanned for efficiency and security. There's enough land available that they could build anew and raze the old structure without any interuption in service too!

What is more shameful is this. We are a nation who relies on tourism. We have investors putting billions in the ground, a Ministry of Tourism with a $78 million dollar budget, we house a School of Hospitality for goodness sakes.

yet, a subpar airport. Again expensive, heck yea. But impressions and service is a HUGE part of tourism. Not only tourism, but this is what we have to use as well.

I see what you are saying but NAS has more airlifts and thus the landing fee would be less. Weather it’s done by Gov't or private sector expect the fees to be raised to compensate and to offset the huge cost to renovate, expand and maintain.

Oh, yeah. Fees will increase at the first moment that someone feels that its justified, no doubt about that. It's like leaving money on the table! There's no guarantee that fees would be less due to volume. Airports are expensive to build AND maintain, especially airports with high volumes and brand new buildings.

Private managment firms, security, etc are acceptable ways to run the airport, but there must be a central government agency responsible for the entire package. This was my original point before I started seeing red about that bartender! :sparky:

I can understand Kerzners' point. He wants the big "Butter and Egg Men" to arrive in style at a first class airport, not the one that used to be at PI that catered to dinky planes and broke down Flying boats.
P.S. I liked the PI airport! It was very convenient to me, but then I just live here!

well he know what to do when he wants to get things done buy out the government. he want first class airport let him come up with first class dollars

Kernner International Chairman and CEO, Sol Kerzner stated yesterday during the launch of Phase Three of the Atlantis Resort that:
"we have about the worst airport in the world."
Do you think that this statement is true?
If so give your opinions on how we can improve the current status of our Airport.

:dancer2: Thank God kerzner see it, cause if someone like me or u did say it,:raw: it would of mean nothing, i believe comin from an investor like him they would try to do something

I agree but who knows what the future might bring? I am sure the folks in England and France might have dreamed about a Channel Tunnel (or even had nightmares about it )but then one day the technology was there! The dream happened. One day we might see a connection between islands along which we might travel, maybe even with the US? Exciting to think about.

Ever heard of a pipeline? For the amount of $$ it costs to charter those barges, we could lay a pipe from Andros' water table to Arawak Cay. Need to fill the reservoir? Open a valve! There would be no problem pumping to that depth as both ends are at sealevel. Way off topic though....

A bridge to Andros isn't impossible, just incredibly expensive and a major problem for AUTEC. High speed ferries are the way to go!

I find it interesting that he used the word "we".

Ughmm....he's right. We all know that our airport is sh!t, so I'm not surprised by this last statement. In fact Kerzner's been talking about the airport either directly himself or through his son for years now.

Personally, I don't even see where the money thing even comes up cause all government got to do to raise money is turn the "Airport Authority" into a company, have a share offering, hold a majority share, hire some good management (preferably Bahamian) and let the thing make money. Airports are not supposed to be money-losers so let the private sector deal with it and make Bahamian shareholders rich!
