View Full Version : Sol Kerzner wants the Nassau International Airport Upgraded.
Delroy 09-11-03, - 10:22 AM Kernner International Chairman and CEO, Sol Kerzner stated yesterday during the launch of Phase Three of the Atlantis Resort that:
"we have about the worst airport in the world."
Do you think that this statement is true?
If so give your opinions on how we can improve the current status of our Airport.

I know of no airport in the world, and I have been to many including 3rd world nations like Peru, Ecuador, etc.. where:
when you pick someone up at arrivals (by customs), there are no announcments or screen telling you which flight arrived and when. You actually have to ask the people coming out, 'which flight you came in on?" This is a joke. Even in Iquitos, Peru, in the middle of the Amazon, there is at least an announcement. In Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, there is a digital board that tells you what flights arrived.
So if nobody is coming out, you have to walk all the way to the departure terminal, deal with rude ticket agents who dont have the 5 seconds to tell you something, and then walk back to the arrival terminal.
Grow up Nassau
There is little doubt that he, Mr. Kerzner, is correct. However, I am a bit concerned that every time Mr. Kerzner does not like something we have to change it - but I know where he is coming from. He wants excellence - we on the other hand have learned to live without it.
I am sure there are international standards for airports. All we have to do is find out what they are and do it. Paying for it is another question. :(
Konop1 10-17-03, - 03:01 PM Paying for it should have been little problem. there is something like a $10 fee for leaving the airport? $10 x 4 million visitors a year.. $40 million dollars for the past 10 years at least... that is a VERY nice airport. The problem of course is that most of the people that collected those fees put the money directly in their pockets!

pevans 06-03-04, - 09:44 PM You don't pay at the counter anymore..it's with the ticket price so that should eliminate much of the revenue divergence.
One other thing...please don't name it the Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling airport. The S.L.O.P airport is what it will become known as even when it is rebuilt. Certianly an insult to the man and the nation.
12play 06-04-04, - 08:52 AM The decision has already been made to name it SLOP. It is not the worst airport. It has gotten much better. It will get better still when it is run by professionals. Politicians and politics are what messes up every agency and institution in this country and others.
Vicky 06-05-04, - 01:55 PM My 2 cents.
Don’t care what you do to the airport if the attitude of the people that work there does not change it won’t make a difference even if you line the walls with gold.

Exactly. I agree 100% on this one.

Its going to be called SLOP!? Are you serious! Darn, they could not have come up with a worst name for it.

I like the name (SLOP) it fits!
lukku cairi 06-27-04, - 10:54 PM You know, I voted to say that Sol Kerzner was right, but then I've changed my mind. I don't think Nassau has the worst airport in the world, because I KNOW FOR A FACT that Marsh Harbour International airport is worse! Anyone who's been stranded after a day or two of cancelled flights, crammed into that tiny space - often as not in the rain and having to stand on the edge of the porch right up where the water's almost dripping on them from the guttering - can't say in good faith that the surly staff/lack of information/slow baggage/antagonistic customs and immigrations officials/bigoted taxi drivers at NAS can be worse. We have all that AND no space AND no effective air condu in MHH, not to mention no air traffic control tower or radar!
Sol boy should build in Abaco. Maybe we could get a functioning airport then.

If SLOP is the designation for our Airport we will be the laughing stock of every baggage handler from here to Timbuktu :) :) :)
