David Coakley of Anderson Street has been sentenced to five years in Her Majesty's Prison for stealing $500,000 in jewels from a Bay Street jewellery store.

The 39-year-old appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Meeres on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to charges of shop breaking and stealing, admitting that he broke into The Colombian on May 24 and stole an assortment of jewellery valued at $500,000.

Anderson's co-accused - Ray Davis, 43, of Zion Boulevard and Edmund McKenzie, 35, of Lewis Street - will have to wait until Thursday to learn their fate.

The pair pleaded not guilty to the charges of shop breaking, stealing and receiving and were remanded to Her Majesty's Prison.

It is alleged that the pair received two men's gold and silver Guess watches, two lady's Guess watches, four gold rings and one white gold ring, together valued at $3,500.

On Thursday the prosecutor is expected to indicate whether the Crown will proceed with charges against Davis and McKenzie.

In other news from the courts:

Omar Butler of Ridgeland Park was charged with armed robbery.

Police allege that the 32-year-old, while armed with a handgun on June 13, robbed Shelique Johnson of a handbag, a driver's permit and $12 in cash, together valued at $122.

Butler was not required to plead to the charge and was denied bail.

He was remanded to prison until the start of his preliminary inquiry on October 4. During the inquiry the magistrate will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for Butler to stand trial in the Supreme Court or be discharged for lack of evidence. He has the option of applying for bail in the Supreme court.

Bradley Smith, also known as "Brad", was charged with having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

It is alleged that the 35-year-old resident of Ridgeland Park West had sex with the minor between July 2005 and April 7, 2006.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted $10,000 bail with two sureties. Smith is expected to return to court on October 5
