probably 3rd. dont forget the caymans!

Yeh when I saw CARICOM's last report I was thinking we might be behind the Caymans too...but if I'm not mistaken we have the second highest household income per capita.

You know this is a very narrow minded view of Bahamians. The entire Caribbean region is full of haughty overtly arrogant persons, and we Bahamians dont stand out in any way. Browse around some Caribbean forums to see what I mean.

You know, I never knew we Bahamians had this "attitude" towards the Caribbean, until I heard it from another West Indian, I must have been in la la land because as far as I know I was never really focused on the rest of the Caribbean.

Not speaking about the subject of this thread...but in response to this specific comment you are so right about this...Bahamians do act like we are better than the rest of the Caribbean.
I suppose since we are the second richest country in the Carribbean (behind Bermuda), we believe this. Money does make you think you are better...

i find that Bermudian think they are better than the rest of the Caribbean, not to mention the Cayman islanders or the Turks Islanders, or the Jamaicans...Jamaicans think Jamaica is the best country in the world...so such the Bajans...
that being said...what wrong with thinking your country is the best country in the world?

Nothing......but when a vast number of a nation is in another country contesting to this......one has to wonder why did they leave?.....that's the situation for most countries here esspecially the richest...Bahamas, Barbados, V.I.s, T&C (up and coming), Bermuda

Everybody in the Carribean is trying to trump one another. It has always been that way.....who is the more developed, the richest, the most civilized. Per Capita Income is always that measuring stick.

But I would think some Carribean people leave us out since, as far as they are conserned, we are not even in their sea, and some Bahamians are not troubled about that fact.

I don't know if the Bahamas would ever really join the rest of the region.

Some a yinna mix up, Jamacians are the RUDE ones not Bahamians.
they take advatage of us Bahamians in our OWN land.

I say ship um back! some haitians have nasty ways as well and their here as our guest UNTIL they resolve their issues - when ever that might be!

Bahamas is for BAHAMIANS. No doubt!

Income per capita is a load of baloney! Don't tell me there is no more than 350,000 people in this country of ours! We are deliberately 'cookin the census figures' by drastically underquoting them in order to get a raised income per capita. Just take a drive around Nassau when schools are let out: bey there's about 300,000 chillen alone!

Underestimating the population looks good internationally and assists us with loans etc but totally sells out the 80% of peeps here doin it tough!

I wouldn't believe any figures from any government department. If the MOE knew its azz from its head I might have more faith. You think we live in an efficiently run country where these figures can be believed: more fool you!

im far from being a fool...but what I will say is that MOE has to know how many students are in the school system and the way they know is by counting heads in homeroom and doing attendance in ever school everyday.that is one number that has to be exact... how else would they know how much to spend every year on education (oops my bad Im sure their is graft in the lion's share of the budget)

Im not doubting the MOE knows the right figure but I am lost in my confidence for them to release that figure.......then a simple division equation will reveal more staff required etc etc. The figure released publically by government depts is the figure that best suits their spin and budget....it doesn't necessarily mean its the real figure. OH hush my mouth: the civil service fiddling figures....how dare I think such a thing, Tafadhali!
