Guardian Sr. Writer for July 31st 2006 indicated that the fight between the PLP and Tribune Managing editor has come to head…they “deferred” his work permit so to silence him!

Now we all know that that man was “sticking” them in they boongy by highlighting their crappy management style! They, specifically Mitchell, Galanis, Rigby, Roberts and Christie had a running battle of back and forth rowing about Bahamian economy and culture with the owners and managing editor of the Tribune!

The fighting arm (Galanis et al) of the PLP called for the revocation of Mr. Marquis’ work permit and subsequent deportation from the Bahamas! In addition, according to Galanis…for disregarding the vital input of Bahamians into the economy!

Now, is the Sr writer is accurate in his writing….the “dutty” ways of the PLP has “pinched” he boongy and wan kick him outta the country!

As for me…this puts a serious nail in the political coffin of the PLP for government in this modern Bahamas! This makes me less inclined to vote for a bunch of folks who can stoop to such low just to “defer” critics!

I even suggest that if this is done as suggested…WE SHOULD BOYCOTT ANY ACTIVITY OF THIS PRESENT GOVERNMENT UNTIL THE WORK PERMIT OF THE EDITOR OF THE TRIBUNE IS GRANTED….UNLESS THE EDITOR HAS BROKEN SOME LAW THAT DISQUALIFIES HIM FROM HOLDING SUCH DOCUMENT! IF NONE JOIN ME...I WILL DO IT BY MY DAMN SELF! BUT FIRST....I AM WAITING TO HEAR WHAT'S THE DEAL BEFORE I ACT!

I KNOW THE TRIBUNE GER "KICK" SOME "BROKE-BACK AZZES BEFORE THIS IS OVER!:uh:

Isnt a more important question why a Bahamian cannot be managing editor of the Tribune?

exactly. if you read any of marquis' outside writing, you can see that his primary influences lie faaaaaaaaarrrr outside of the bahamian scheme of reality. we have plenty of qualified bahamian voices, from krissy russell to jeanne thompson to patricia glinton on down. why do we need a fusty ascotted brit?

Weather you like to read a "brits" writing or not...that still does not address the problem of official victimization! What's the matter with you?

So what do you do with a LICKS2 or an ISLANDGYAL when the official party line is not followed? Prevention from gainful employment or operating a ligitimate business...take away right to citizenship (like the Darcy Ryan case)...what say you?

Yall will have a whole lot er sh!t up in here if I am victimized and yinna come round me with that lame line er bullsh!t. Een nobody ask yinna about who have or don't have the right to speak in the Bahamas! Yall must remember that them businesses have a right to hire whom they will. How come yinna een pissed of all them overseas consultants we have all over the place and ting...but you justify government shutting up the free press to silent decent from a brit? My, my my...what the intelligencia of the Bahamas coming to! I asked one sensible question and all er could read is er bunch er sh!t!

Its strange how them that hollow most bout they soooooooooooo smart...and like to call other person "idiot" an ting are the ones who tend to talk the most azz when their personal biases are challenged? Child...yinna een ready. Address the real national issue or go take a chill pill! And carry you know who with ya! :sparky: :realmad: :cutie:

That is an important question but it's not priority and it's not an issue at this time. What is the issue is this victimization which could happen to anyone Bahamian or Foreign? Ya'll need to cease deferring the real issue to sheild dese people....

the bait they fell for is called a red herring...it goes without saying the managing editor of any Bahamian paper should be a Bahamian...but in this light it is shameful that in this day and age the govt has issues with people who voice their decenting opinions about their performance thus far...there was nothing the ol chap said that wasnt factual...quietly, that brokeback snake alluded to this in his sunday propaganda a few weeks ago im not surprised...at all...PLP how low can you go?

if i were convinced that the tribune was in fact an objective media outlet intent on exposing good and bad in bahamian society, i might agree with you and take up the cause of the marginalization of editor marquis' right to free speech. i happen to think that the present publisher has blackened that paper's eye over the years with her own political agenda, and has pretty much reaped what she herself sowed. the tribune and the punch are about eye-level when it comes to sophisticated analysis of the news of the day.

There is victimization on both ends!!! FNM Permanent secretaries left in place by the kind hearted PM are victimizing PLP's and stifling the progress of the government. But that is not news worthy!! The Tribune will never cover such a story!!! That news was actually brought to the publics attention by Mr. Christie himself early in his administration!!!!But when the PLP victimizes an FNM or an FNM newspaper all hell broke loose!!

I think the media has an obligation to print the truth and not the twisted truth (which is actually a lie) laced with the editors own personal opinion!

If you are going to include personal opinion thats fine!! but please allow people with opposing points of view to print a defence.

The ONLY member of their tribune team that really attacked the FNM while they were in power was Nicky Kelly!!!

Strangely she is no longer working for the Tribune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tribune is and will always be an FNM newspaper

Mr. Marquis was the guest of The Bahamian people with a work permit which allowed him to work as a journalist. I personally don't call what I have read in The Tribune on various occasions journalism, so he has no case in my opinion. If he can show that he was a journalist and not just an advocate posing as a journalist then I will listen. Until then he should sit back and reevaluate the actions which led to this decision and whether he was actually practicing journalism or just carrying a torch for a particular party.
