View Full Version : Dual Citizenship
Rowan 07-31-06, - 09:15 PM I am an American, however my mother is Bahamian. She still lives in the Bahamas. I have been told that I am able to apply for dual citizenship. Can anyone give me info on this and maybe some direction on how to go about applying? I have also heard that because it is my mother who is the Bahamian, that I may not be able to get dual citizenship. That if it were my father, I could. Is this true? Any help and any direction would be GREATLY appreciate.
Thank you so much!

it depends on your age...and if your mother has the fight in her to contest the discriminatory laws in our constitution against women...and why would you want the dual citizenship..tax evasion? running from the law? we have enough of that already you know ;)

Your status will depend on a few factors,
If your mother is a Bahamian and you were born out of wedlock
(single mother), regardless of your place of birth, you will automatically take her status. (Bahamian)
If your mother was married to your father at the time of your birth, you will take the status of your father.
I agree with Tafadhali about the discrimination against women in our constitution. This issue was presented in a referendum 2002, which was made very political. The Bahamian people voted "NO" to that particular question, hence people like you would have to spend alot of money fighting for status or simply be denied your birthright..

if it had never been politicised and had it been explained better.. im fairly certain it would've passed

I am glad that law did not pass....
The Bahamian "elitist women" were ready to sail their boys and men down the river, with a tick of the box.
All for man.....yes....ALL FOR MAN!
Rights may or may not have been trampled...but, it was the right descision.
Can you imagine CSME "free movement of labour" with the newly passed law giving expat males rights?!?!
We would have no Bahamian males left in this town....we would have killed them all, and/or put them all in jail.
The Bahamian men do not and will never deserve that!

so Bahamian women cant think ourselves?...how chauvanist and misogynistic of you...you must hate your mother...or be a closeted gay man who hates "fish"...

Of course they can think for themselves....
But, once he is in it is quite well over.
If you do not wish the Bahamian males to disapear...then why are you fighting hard for it?
What do you want a foreign entity to have rights for in your country?
What's you beef aside from being hard up for MAN!?!
LOL...
FYI...
The Bahamian women did think..at least the majority of them, when they said NO to that silly little refferendum.
Hopefully we will never hear of it again....
Speaking of which...About to walk to the next Zonta club meeting, and gun whip any woman who says otherwise!
