Sex crimes against juveniles are continuing to soar at an alarming rate, forcing police and social workers to repackage their anti-AIDS and teenage pregnancy messages.
It is a fact that teens are continuing to engage in sexual acts among themselves and with adults at an alarming rate. And more and more adults are having sex with juveniles, a trend that has police and social workers worried.
Added to that, the number of teenage pregnancies occurring over the past several years is an indication that young girls are not heeding the abstinence warnings.
The latest Department of Statistics figures show that 539 teenagers became mothers in 2004. Of that number, eight were between the ages of 10 and 14. The remaining 531 babies were born to young girls between the ages of 15 and 19.
Amazingly, officials said that 539 figure remains in line with that of previous years. "The numbers are consistent," the Nassau Guardian was told In 2003, 603 teenagers between the same age brackets gave birth. Now, a local physician is expressing concern over the high number of teenage pregnancies. "We are seeing a fair number of teenage girls who are coming in pregnant as young as 14, in several instances," said Dr Carlos Thomas in a radio interview.
"And what is even more worrisome is that we are having 16, sometimes 17, 18-year-olds who are coming back with their second or even third pregnancy," he said on "Issues of the Day." Interestingly, the paediatrician said that when these girls are interviewed, oftentimes their partners are men who are much older than they are. "I am talking about men in their 30s and even 40s," the paediatrician disclosed. It is understood that in cases of this nature, when the child is underage and partner is much older, doctors are duty bound to report the matter to the Social Services Department. "The problem with these young girls, in addition to being ignorant about these babies, they are emotionally not ready for the whole responsibility of being a parent, so therein lies the problem. They are not ready for that at a young age."
Some experts argue this is due to the fact that the messages of sexual abstinence and safe sex are still not effectively being conveyed to young persons.
Many believe a major step in curbing this problem would be to help teenagers fully understand the disadvantages of becoming a parent at such an early age, which has a negative effect physically as well as emotionally.
It has been reported that among the reasons young girls wind up getting pregnant are promiscuity, peer pressure and faltering relationships between parents and children.
chancellor 08-01-06, - 06:39 AM The problem has to be tackled....not just "talked to". Go into the homes and see whats going on......catch them red handed. Use decoys if nessecary....probably the same girls....I'm serious! We can no longer keep using the "kindergarden conference" method. It's not getting to the core of the group of people who are part of the problem.
I'm sure there's people in the neighbourhoods who know these pathetic people who cant pick up someone "legal". The young ones do ususally do this on thier own free will, however they either disragard the consequences or don't have too much of idea what they are getting into, and according to the law they legaly dont know what they are getting into!

Put an end to the sterotype that if a guy has lots of childern in or out side of marriage that it makes him a man. Make the penalty humaliating to the pedofile homosexual or heterosexual. That way it ends this very stupid sence of pride.
They are not ready for that at a young age." Same goes with these young boys (except for the pergnancy part).
Some experts argue this is due to the fact that the messages of sexual abstinence and safe sex are still not effectively being conveyed to young persons. It needs to be taken to schools with out shame. Blow open sexuality in every form give the kids the knowledge and tools to be safe no matter what. The referance is pregnancy but what about STDs like AIDS.
Many believe a major step in curbing this problem would be to help teenagers fully understand the disadvantages of becoming a parent at such an early age, which has a negative effect physically as well as emotionally.

Now to add to your thoughts.
Have you notices how young girls are developing these days? have you ever wondered why?
Its in the food people look at what the put in the stuff they feed chickens. Then they sell us the chickens to eat. What do you think your kids are eating???
Now here is one that has me in trouble with the GLBT community but I call an ace an ace.
There are $15.00 and $20.00 all you can drink parties, it has to stop or there has to be limits. Yes its true that most times IDs are checked and Adults should have the right to drink as much as they want. But the fact remains that under age kids are getting in. They are drinking them selves silly and they are having sex with other kids and adults. Not to mention alcoholism is not good either.

Ting-um 08-02-06, - 08:25 AM This is a parent problem.
Charity begins at home and ends abroad.
Children learn morals and values from home, unless there are no morals and values being taught at home. But let's keep it real. There are no 14 and 15 year old girls getting pregnant without the parent's knowing. The men that do this are brazen enough to come to the child's home. Eat in the house. Sometimes they even help pay the bills.
Some parents even see it as a blessing that there child can find somebody else to help them financially.
So you shouldn't just punish the pedophile. Punish the parents. The minute this happen, all of this foolishness will decline *FAST*.

Sorry but you must live in a dream world or you have no kids. Girls are just as sneaky as boys if not more so because most people think that a girl would not do such things. If there is proof that the parents know of the relationship between their child and adult then yes there should be punishment for the parents as well. Now if the pedophile is helping them financially then they should have the book thrown at them. They child should be taken from them and they should have a long time to think about what the have done to that child.
Ting-um 08-02-06, - 10:10 AM I have two children. Both girls.
I have 8 female cousins all got pregnant before the age of 16.
If the child is raised with morals, then there is no need to sneak about to do anything. And, if the child is willing to go to a clinic and reveal to a total stranger that the father of the child is 30 or 40 years old -- why would you think that their parents don't know.
I think *YOU* live in the fantasy world.
Explain to me *EXACTLY* how does a girl hide her pregnancy?? And if her parents cared enough, they would know or find out who big up their daughter's belly.
We did when we found out that one of my cousins who was 13 was pregnant by a 35 year old guy. Axe handles and dogs. That's how you deal with these people.

I am not refering to after they are pregnant.
I bet going and beating the guy made you fell like a man huh???
BAHMIA 08-02-06, - 09:23 PM So you shouldn't just punish the pedophile. Punish the parents. The minute this happen, all of this foolishness will decline *FAST*.
Nope, it won't. The pedofiles just move on. And parents who really are unaware will be punished needlessly. Some of these kids dem game tight. Some parents would be shocked at the 'stash' that some of these girls (and guys) are hoarding. Not every parent sees the gold chains, or $50 bills that their kids are collecting from these adults. However, in the cases were the children are showing off the things they're getting from the pedofiles, both the pedofile and the parents must be held accountable.
In your cousins' situation, were those men ever charged? I feel that some parents think that if the man is 'trapped' that he'll be obliged to pay the family something. They should all serve time and be made to sign up as pedofiles in their respective neighbourhoods, cause I know that girls are growing up fast, but 13 yr old girls don't usually look like 19 year old girls.
This was mentioned in passing, but alcohol and alcoholism is a growing problem with the younger generation.
Ting-um 08-02-06, - 10:33 PM Vicky:
Made me feel like a man?? You say the dumbest things. You must have something against feeling like a man?? Wait....don't answer that..
BAHMIA:
The pedophiles run out of children to move on to. And you can't move on if you're sitting in prison since I don't recall saying that pedophilia shouldn't be punished.
The interesting thing about parents that aren't aware is that when they are forced to be aware -- they become aware. Reminds me of SOX. The law held CEOs and CFOs responsible for the accuracy of the companies financial statements -- but everybody knows that most CEOs have no clue what's going on with the company's financial statements. But because of the law they make certain that they know each and every thing possible. That's because they are the primary line of defense against corruption.
...the same with parents, they are the primary line of defense against pedophilia..
I can't say if all of the men were ever charged. Some instances I was too young to know anything other than my cousin was 14 and pregnant. In other instances, the girl ran away. In another instance a girl killed the guy because he found another sex slave.
