Hi group,

It is very sadden to hear the way Bahamians talk about their own, be it right or wrong, I am an American Bahamian, and have married a British born, and if he would have seen this he would have been surprise, because his view of our country from east street to Lyford cay has been positive. I personally know that people often feel threaten and often scared of change but for the most part Bahamians are not a 3rd as bad as some other foreigners.

I am in an interracial relationship, and my husband was ever so happy to visit the Bahamas and see that racial issues are not too big, to me this is good. My advice to all of you whether Bahamians or not, remember when you badmouth your country you hurt yourself, let people determine the good or bad for themselves because everyone has a different opinion on things. Thanks for your time and be positive!

all i could say is u are very lucky; u can live in the bahamas, america, or europe. i wish i had those options. no wonder u r so up beat cuase u really dont have much too worry bout. in one sence i do agree with you that interacial couples r not that big a deal over but at the same time many bahamians are totally against and even though they smile up in ur face they diss u to ya back, call u a sell out, wanna be white, etc. believe me i have been there

Thanks for the response, However, Independent of what is said( as we know people are intitle to their opinions) people will be judgemental. In my view, It is often better to allow people to form their own opinions, it is a huge disadvantage to bad mouth your country, besides most people don't do this( unless they are truely anger), thus we( as a country) need to be proud of what we have no matter how much or little it is. On a nicer note, this web is awesome! I enjoy reading the ads, please everyone look at the for sale items, father's day is coming up ladies and I have some lingerie that will make your husband or significant other sweat :heartbeat . Take care!

response to "elephant" " I think therefore I am" Renee DeCartes, therefore be cognizant of what you think of your own :bahamas: :uk:

Response to "sweat" just a little humor( it is not meant to be complex). Enjoy mates!

well even though this post is probably not goin to be read. i will put in my two cents. i am a bahamaian living in the U.S. and i am flattered that you dream about living in Nassau, bahamas. but i must ask you ARE U CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes when you visit the bahamas seems like a dream home but reality is IT IS NOT. here is y

1- IT IS EXPENSIVE, even thought the government portays it as a tax free society truth is bahamaian pay 100-200% in hidden taxes on everything they buy

2-IT IS SMALL, the ceter of the bahamas is in Nassau which is only 21*7 big, this means job opportunity is limited and it is extremly crowded

3- UN ORGANISED, every one there is unorganised it is almost impossible to get anything done. if you every have to wait on an ambulance, pay a light bill, or file a police report you will understand what i am saying.

4- services, service is poor from electricty, telephone, airlift(bahamasair). it is just POOR.

if i were you i would give up on my dreams of moving to the bahamas and just buy a time share

Wow! Thanks for that frank assessment of living in the Bahamas. So, you've moved from the islands? Didn't like it, huh? I was wondering about that job situation. I guess they really can't let too many people come with it being such a small island and all.

Sorry so late responding.

I just know americans in my industry that drive 2 hours to a service call, from one state to the next one, and thats doing 70mph .. then 2 horus back, in a gas guzller, they can do the same amount of service calls as me but spend 10 times on gas, so end up making less in the end. BUT, everything else over there is cheaper so yah know ... they still win! ;-) Im not trying to rationalise the tax here trust me im all against the crap the govs pull on us in regards to customs when they dont do anything with it .. just look at nassau, where exactly are our tax dollars spent . hmm, 5 million to some disgruntalled employyes in Freeport .

I hate to ask this, I really do, but how much is gas there now? I remember the last time I visited, $3.27 a gallon was just so incredulous to me. I know I sound like a crybaby, whinning about $2.09 (up from $1.30 since that time) but how much is it now?

Good day.
To all the americans ( Re: typist) I hope your stay in the Bahamas is well received and pleasant. The people for the most part is very friendly and do care about each other, on the other hand keep in mind that as human beings there will be some exceptions. Thus, the Gay idea is only people with personal preferences in which everyone is entitle to. also keep in mind that this is not just an issue in our land but as far as the globe would allow critiques.

Therefore,I challenge you ( all of you) to look at the bright side and realize that people will differ in opinions, preference and creed; however, this can't and shouldn't be generalize. On a more fun note!!!!!!!!!!Have fun in the sun and try the conch salad it is the best!

Much love

Racquel

'preciate you, sweetie!

Yeah, being gay is no big whup to me. To tell you the truth, I brought up the gay thing just to get a post. Sorry; but it worked.

i think its round $4 now .. all i know im spending more on gas than i am on rent ... per week..i spend average $20-30 a day just for minimal driving.. all the stop go traffic, and the heat, makes it worst. But then i drive a jeep...4.0 straight 6. We definately dont drive the long distances alot of Americans do .. but still.

It's not that i dont like the bahamas, I LOVE THE BAHAMAS and i am sure you do to. but i have to look at reality and keep it real. reality is a person usually has to work twice as hard to get half as far in the bahamas; ie you make less and thing cost more. when it comes on to higher education, making real money, job diversity, being a consumer etc. the bahamas isnt there yet; at least for me it isnt. hey you could retire there; i plan to. also to anyone that thinks i am just bad mouthing let me just say i think this way in general ie i would never move to LA, even though i may still be in america, LA is dirrty, crowded, expensive, dangerous man made and natural disasters, the state is broke etc. simply put a person has to go where they feel they can achieve the greatest success.

well wow rory, i think i would die if i had to pay that kind of price. even though these americans be pissin and moaning at the gas station, ma boy today i kiss the pump with that 2.11 price tag; cuase i know some people have it worse. also i should add that gas over here fluctuates more than in the bahamas and even when the gas over here was under a 1.50 gas in the bahamas was over the 3.00 mark, there still has never been an explaination as to why this is. i mean south florida imports gas just like the bahamas and gas is less there. also i would like to know why do you see so many SUV's on nassau's streets if the people think the gas is too high? when my friends was visiting last summer they kept asking how do bahamians afford to pay for these things, all i could say was i dont know.

You know, actually that's not too bad. Around 70 cents? That's not too bad. In Georgia, we jumped about $1 - $1.25 but on the West Coast, its like $2.50 jump per gallon. But I'm still not happy paying damn near $30 to fill up my Intrepid.

And what you rollin' that great big ole' girl for? :driving: Isn't the island like 2x2 miles? LOL! How much does it cost to fill HER up?

I think I'd get me one of these :escape: and roll that to and fro. Although I'd have to stay home if it rains.
