It is very disappointing to hear that my Government has verbally decided to grant approval for the erection of a LNG facility in The Bahamas, when there is no regulatory framework in place to monitor the activites of such a entity. I am fully aware of the need for economic diversification, however; rushing into accords with investment groups, without the pertinent structure can be detrimental to any country, in particular small developing countries - like The Bahamas.
I agree (to a certain extent) with the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Lesile Miller that LNG is relatively safe. However, I wis to indicate to the Minister that there are cases where there have been explosions at LNG facilities, which resulted in major damage to the environment.
More debate and public consultation is needed on this issue.

I have yet to hear why do we need a LNG terminal when the people benefiting mostly are the people of Florida. Another question is this: Why is there a need to have a LNG terminal and the subsequent laying of pipes that can have a detrimental affect on our reefs that is so fundamental to fishes and the entire equilibrium of the earth.
Why cant AES do like Suez, another LNG company and build a man made island in Florida waters to build their terminal. We are jonesing out our birth right (natural resources) for a meal of porridge. The LNG plant and production is not as safe as the greedy energy company would like us to believe, The law of physics and the production of LNG has not change! We also have to take into account terrorism. I say take your lousy dollars and leave our beautiful waters alone! Say no to LNG!

And not only to the environment. A year and a half ago in Europe somewhere I believe, several persons were killed at an explosion at an LNG plant. There was also another explsoion at an LNG facility around that same time frame that caused loss of life as well.
I'm not saying accidents cant happen in other industrial sectors ofcourse, but just to add to what you said about LNG specifically.

Yay! not only can we give Florida all of our money (save our customs money) but we now have the luxury to give them energy resources while we have to struggle with high oil prices!
The time consumed waiting for Mr. Christies brain to process could have been used to develop the infrustructure to recieve this resource, even if it would have been one tank to hold even a miniscule portion.

Simple: Don't let it happen unless...#1 We get preferential use of the fuel (yall complain all u want, this is a clean fuel that we desperately could use)
#2 It can only happen if it is built, managed and run,by the same safety standards and environmental safeguards as if it was in the US.:hammer:
