:mad:Well, I will tell you my first racial encounter!
It was right here in the Bahamas! :sparky:
I was in junior high, and apart of my school's softball team. The coach had wanted us to work on our upper body strength! So he sugested that we worked out at this local gym in Nassau, I don't remember the name or location, but I know that it probably has been closed down. Anyway, me and my friends get there before the coach. We entered the gym and proceeded to the front counter for help! The lady at the desk then went to a back office and had a few words with the presumed manager. She then out of nowhere came out front and said that " I don't want none of ya'll black children in my store!" (I tell no lies) Then followed by some other racial slurs! Shortly after, the coach had came, and when we told him what had happened, he defended us, and apologised to us all! I was probably 15/16 at the time! I still remember those words and her face like it was yesterday! I need not tell you that the manager was white, but she sure showed her true color that day!:sparky:

Spoken like a true Portian.;)
trubahamian 08-05-06, - 07:56 PM True, but one thing I failed to mention was that this mostly happened in college - and a large portion of the college students were not from Maryland. We had a large population of kids from NJ and NY.
Hmmmmm.......I lived and worked in the northeast.NY,(long island)CT,RI,and Massachusetts.I had great experiences wit some nice folks, from hard working dirty fingernail types to well to do folks.Of course I was always in either da fishing or yachting arena, but just da same some cool people n' mostly white.I'm thinking of going back one day!

bey its afta 7..brain cells start to wind down..whats a Portian? lol :)
"you must be gay because you're white." Or, "your father's white, so he must be gay". But then, when you're the majority, and you've only had the mass media to guide you in life, what other conclusion would they come to? Most gay people in the media are white, so there's that "connection".
:bouncy: Forgive me if I wrong, but didn't you say in another thread that you was actually gay? This would explain were all that of track emotion came from!

he he he...ok Rory..but lets see just how deep our inbred ideas are about how we think people look based on how they "sound" on these boards...

You should! I'm not saying that they're all bad, and certainly not an attitude unique to white people. I live in New York now, and I'm having a ball! However, you still hear things said from either side of the spectrum - in opposition to the other (white people referring to anything black as "ghetto", black people referring to anything white as "cracker"). People say things in jest that I wouldn't dream of saying due to how insensitive it is. It happens everywhere you go, and it's born out of ignorance. I just smile, nod, mind my own, and let them figure it out for themselves.

You're right; I did say that. However, that's neither here nor there, because these kids didn't know for a fact that I was gay. All this happened during my childhood and adolescent years. I had no sexual attraction to anyone at the time, so that argument is null and void. I didn't tell anyone about my sexual orientation until college. I also got called names because I went to St. Andrew's... now, if you can come up with a sensible rationale for that, please let me hear it ;)
