If the Bahamian press is still worth anything they should bombard Peet's telephone line until he responds with a real explanation. If he doesn't respond then that should be the headline...MINISTER PEET REFUSES TO ANSWER TO PUBLIC CONCERNS ABOUT ANCHOR PROJECTS! Let's see if they allow this story to die...I wonder what the Tribune is doing? The Bahamas Journal seems to be content with not getting the story.

What is amazing about this story is that a consultant is being paid by the tax payers to be chairman of this oversight committee and the people who is paying him is not allowed to know. What madness!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why the secret? Is it possible the that minister Peet is lying? Why not name the person? This is baffling!

I don't get the objections. I thought this was what the opposition said the Bahamian people wanted, someone to see to it that these investors did what they were supposed to do. And Pharoah I think that The Minister gave enough facts about the person appointed Chairman of this committee that he would be found out if he is lying. There may be other reasons for not naming him.

You know how ugly or fat people like to call others ugly and fat...your're doing the same thing...calling others partisan when you yourself are acting in a partisan manner...seeing that I was the first to resoond to this article I feel obliged to answer your partisan based response...I've never voted for any political party in the Bahamas....I'm on the side of the Bahamian people...the people who employ Mr Peet and should demand clear and concise answers...it's called being civic minded...leave the backwards political jawing at the front door and deal with the issue--who is overseeing Anchor Projects Under Scrutiny...can we all agree to do that! Dam!

what's amazing about this story is the the supposed representative of a district is singing the praises of an overblown resort development that he couldn't have been bothered to review while it was in its planning stages.

now that it's built, thanks to illegal construction tactics the place is two storeys too tall, everyone's complaining about the crowded infrastructure and lack of planning, the dock is so far out into the harbour you might as well walk over to eleuthera ... and mister MP is singing its praises as a top employer in the area when it doesn't even pay its bills or salaries on time. talk about a revolving door over there, and dancing MP can't be bothered to learn the facts before gloating to the press.

If they are going to regulate these developments then they need to regulate ALL developments and construction .. we have no such thing as enforced codes currently .. for example how can a concreate generator house be built only feet from a neighbors window and the exhaust be pointing right at it .. then when called the appropriate authorities want nothing to do with it ...

Come on guys, nothing is ever regulated or enforced here so what makes anyone think these developments will be any different ...

Finally someone with a logical comment on dis thread.Exactly...all need to conform to a common code, just as in the States or any other well established well organised country. For heaven sakes...this is why so many of us are against foreign development;Backroom special treatment needs to end!:titongue:

That's expected of you. When it comes down to seeing the wrong of the PLP you seem to cant see the forest for the trees.

I thought this was what the opposition said the Bahamian people wanted, someone to see to it that these investors did what they were supposed to do.

Of course this oversight commitee is a nice idea even though it is my understanding that the former goverment hired experts to do just that!

So what will happen is this: The people will pay the commitee and the commitee will hire experts and the people will pay them. Hence double money for the same job.
This goverment really know how to waste money and give the impresssion of success! Form over substance.

And Pharoah I think that The Minister gave enough facts about the person appointed Chairman of this committee that he would be found out if he is lying. There may be other reasons for not naming him.

Ok, i am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not lying. I take that back. But what reason can he have that he can't disclose a chairman of an appointed commitee that I assume is being paid.

You must remember that the minister said that this particular person was chairman for months now.

Mr. Peet is a sick man....bottom line. I thought they were behind their HOAs 100%. Now that they signed with anyone who appeared to have the capital to invest NOW they want to scrutinize.....you have to be sick.

As far as I am aware a shed is not covered under building codes. A generator enclosure is considered the same as a shed. As far as the housing being only feet away from your window that is inconsiderate behaviour on your neighbour's part and probably should have been dealt with on a personal level. I agree that there are regulations which are not followed but this does not seem to be one of them.

I have seen contractors take shortcuts that put people's lives at stake. Those persons and the inspectors that approved the buildings should be charged and jailed. Then there will be serious building inspections going on. It will mean that our homes will take 4 times as long to build though so we won't have to worry about not having anything to complain about.
