even more so every day ... come dusk they lock them selves down and yah dont see them no more till dawn .. meanwhile people writing off other peoples cars cause they wasted or they just cant drive . ... and then to find they dont have insurance even ... and the cops dont lock them up on the scene, thats when the cops turn up 1 hour later ... then the cops want to bring this crap on the news about people "speeding" doing like 40mph and thing ... while they know its simply cause MOST people cant drive here ... its pathetic and they are pathetic.

Damn Right. A few months ago me and my family were driving to south ocean and there were no cars in sight and all of a sudden we see a cop driving on the wrong side of the road. I don't think the madness will ever stop
canesfins 08-13-06, - 12:33 AM If the traffic department began enforcing the traffic laws half the drivers would be off the road. The only way it would work is if cars are confiscated.
Can Bahamians drive correctly? Of course we can - but we don’t at least at home.
When we go to America and rent a car we are on our best behavior, why? Because we never know when a cop will pull us over - cops seem to be everywhere. When we get back home we can go for months without seeing one of our cops on the road, so we get lazy and don’t bother to follow the rules of the road.
There is nothing like a cop on the road to keep honest people honest!

It is stupid that only a traffic cop deals with traffic incidents.I thought we paid these cany stripers to deal with any crime. I remember one time in FLL I made a short cut tru a gas station and these two homicide dectives in plain clothes flagged me down and only didn't give me a ticket cause I was Bahamian. You'll never see CDU in Nassau doing that, hell I watched them drive straight pass an accident just rubbernecking like everybody else.

[The only justice may just be us]
Not only road traffic but the police, CID, Defence force, Government, I could go on and on and on. It's no wonder the court system is so stressed. The only way to try to get justice is through God and the courts. You have to be your own police so you must know the law. Chances are if you learn your own rites you would know more than the police and CID.
thanks .. well was actually ticked over an write off of my vehicle when i posted this ... just boiled over .. the other driver came around the bend on the wrong side of the road (drunk and high) and totalled my car (driven by someone else who is on my insurance).
just found out yesterday the other driver is being charged ... but he only had "Road Act" ... so its all a big loss, cause even though he is liable to pay for the car .. its obvious from previous experience in Nassau, we will never see a penny.
will2274 08-23-06, - 06:03 PM You know what urks me most about the average Bahamian-they don't know Bahamian Law. We watch too much TV shows, importing US laws and think they apply here!
Rory, in Bahamian law, a police officer CANNOT DECLARE A PERSON DRUNK!
Eventhough being drunk and driving is an arrestable offence, a police has to take the "suspected" drunk driver to a doctor. ONLY A DOCTOR CAN DECLARE SOMEONE DRUNK!( No they don't have breath alyzers here-yet)
Likewise, a police officer can go to and accident scene, see a victim head off, and still cannot pronounce him dead- once again only a doctor can do that!
So here is what I feel the problem is with this situation. Can you imagine an officer on patrol from 4pm to 12mid, he pulls over a suspected drunk driver at 11pm, takes him to PMH for a doctor to declare him drunk so that he can charge him properly, waiting 4hrs for the doctor to attend to him cause he gatta do a blood test, the doctor sayin "man I gat people dyin here, he gatta wait" Finally the doctor takes a blood sample from him at 6am- the dude done sober up. The officer just wasted his whole night!

Another thing that puzzles me is how Bahamians does mix-up people.
1 The Road Traffic Dept and the Royal Bahamas Police force Traffic division are TWO DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS!
2 CID OFFICERS ARE POLICE OFFICERS! There's not the police and CID, CID officers are just the detectives. By the way, they called themselves CDU now so you still behind the eight ball. Firemen, by the way, are also police officers. None have more powers than the other.
Hope this has opened your eyes a bit.

Well they should be able to, even i can!! Dude got alchohol in their car, slurring speach, breath reaking of alchohol, stumbling all over the place, even if they arent drunk, they certainly shouldt be driving and SHOULD be taken to the hospital .. If the law makes them look so stupid then they need to quit ... i mean the road traffic dept really is a joke here in Nassau anyway. I see 1 traffic cop maybe once a month, and thats when theyre escorting some MP, changing a traffic light, or "attending" to an accident ...

Prolly never man....lower your expectations of some of these depts and you wont be so stressed.
12play 09-12-06, - 11:15 AM I read somewhere that the Road Traffic department has produced a video on the proper use of round-a-bouts. Are we the dumbest people on the planet or what? Give way to your right, simple. What hard 'bout that? I am moving to Canada we are just too stupid to survive much longer.
