View Full Version : CG: Slavery's Affect On Blacks Today
Spirit 02-10-04, - 08:35 PM Why don't you two nuckleheads send each other private messages instead of wasting space making threads on our precious website! Haitianboy, you realy have to stop all this "the man is trying to keep us down" bull. You sound like an underachieving black militant! I am a black Bahamian unlike you two. I know the Bahamas isn't made up of just black people. We all work together to achieve a better life together. For all the racist whites that live here in the Bahamas, they've missed out on alot by having such a norrow mind to society. And the same goes to blacks in this country. What we don't need here is this racist "the man is keeping me down" bull.
100% Bahamian I think you completely missed the point. When I read the post the only thing I read was the negative and permanent effects of slavery.
I read nothing about White man keeping Black man down!!!!
For every cause there is an affect and every action a reaction. He was only trying to show the viewing public the negative effects of slavery.
Wake up!! There were many negative effects that arose from slavery. And only dialogue and education will enable to better understand the struggles the different races experience.
It has nothing to do with Black militants and everything to do with education.
Only dictatorships discourage freedom of Speech. 100% Bahamian, it appears that you will blend in very well in a Castro Regime!!
As for me I am all for freedom of speech. Long live freedom of speech!!! Our Bahamian constitution gives all of us the right to hold an opinion. I will uphold that right whenever possible!
I have done a few studies of the effects of slavery and the negative repercussions were enormous. I have also heard many white Bahamians comment negatively on the state of Black Bahamians out of pure ignorance!!
Many of them do not have the slightest idea that many of the problems they are seeing today are a direct result of slavery and racial inequality. And when I educate them they are in a state of shock.
100% Bahamian is one of those Bahamians who is trying to hamper this educational process.
For example when asked why White Bahamians are better off than Black Bahamians, Many White Bahamians said Black Bahamians are LAZY!
But many of them actually inherited their wealth from their forefathers who took advantage of opportunities Blacks were denied. They didn't actually work hard for it. You see they don’t like to hear that kind of stuff.
They don’t want to hear that Black people were denied the right to own land. The acquired as much land as they can dirt-cheap and resold for hefty profits.
Why do you think the very large real estate companies are white owned?
We have to educate the white Bahamians, NOT TO RUB THEIR NOSES IN THEIR PAST SINS BUT TO PREVENT THEM FROM MAKING STUPID GENERAL REMARKS such as Blacks are poor because they are lazy.
We need to educate them so that they can help us along the way instead of condemning us. They continue to condemn Blacks because of ignorance!
I have not even touched the tip of the iceberg on this topic. But I will not proceed any further accept to give you a simple illustration of how inequality can cause problems.
Equality cannot correct inequality!
All hail US affirmative action!
Spirit 02-10-04, - 08:42 PM Equality cannot correct Inequality!
Suppose Mary had two sons. Tom and Chris. Mary liked Tom more than Chris so she therefore decided to give Tom a much bigger allowance than Chris. Tom was given $50 and Chris was only given $2 on a weekly basis. After a year of doing this Mary acknowledged that this was wrong and she decided from now on both Tom and Chris will receive $30 each on a weekly basis. After a year the following amounts were accumulated
Tom 50 X 52 = $2600 + $30 = $2630
Chris $2 X 52 = $ 104 + $30 = $ 134
Mary came to realize that equality couldn’t solve the problem of inequality. Because Tom was given more for so long he had an extreme advantage over Chris. To rectify this she decided on a policy of inequality in reverse. Instead of Tom receiving the larger sum, Chris will now receive one lump sum far exceeding that of Tom’s. Chris was given $2526 and Tom was given $30. The end result was as follows:
Tom $2630 + $30 = $2660
Chris $ 134 + $ 2526 = $2660
Tom was white and Chris was Black. The moral of this story is you cannot correct inequality through equality.
Even though reverse inequality seem fair, it was never actually done because it would appear racist.
My interest in submitting this is only to expose the truth. You will never solve a problem by avoiding it.
Interesting posts Spirit, give us more!
If I may put my 5c in. I think the problem lies in patterns of thinking. No doubt, because of the past, many Black folks have a defeatist attitude that does not make them lazy it just gives them a "what's the use?" pattern of thought. What is needed is education and encouragement, lots and lots of both.
In your posting you said, referring to rich white folks, "But many of them actually inherited their wealth from their forefathers who took advantage of opportunities Blacks were denied. They didn't actually work hard for it." Could be true, in some cases, but inheriting wealth is one thing, keeping it is another and that requires hard work and "Brains." If not then, "A fool and his money is soon parted!"
The "brains" I speak about are born of that education and encouragement I was speaking about. White folks encourage each other. They value education. Black folks pull each other down (The black crab syndrom?) or they use to do this. I now see a turning around where Black folks are beginning to encourage each other. This is good! Long may it continue because you cannot "fix" the past but you can change the future.
100%Bahamian 02-11-04, - 08:38 AM 100% Bahamian, you wrote, "Why would you disagree with my suggestion for the originator of this thread to send his messages privately to his accomplice?" Presumably, I am the accomplice?
You went on to say, "They are obviously heavily engaged in the black militant mentality that is dangerous to us all be it black or white." Please read my posting carefully and you will see that I agree with you. Black Militancy is dangerous - particularly to Black people. (By the way, I am a white guy.)
You also wrote. "Their subject is far to controversial and is also widely misleading." Controversial? Perhaps but what is the point of talking about safe, uncontroversial subjects? Misleading? I don't see that. Haitianboy was simply describing his feelings. But, read my posts carefully and you will see that I agree with you. There was no plan to destroy the Black man. What there was, was a view of the Black man as a commodity, not a human being. THAT error must always be challenged.
Let me retract my statement on you being the accomplist to Haitianboy. What I should of wrote should have been in the interest of positive thinking versus useless babbling. Haitianboy should direct his attention to looking forward and not backwards. In meaning, Have you ever seen someone walking in a straight line? It is very easy to do when one looks ahead of himself. Once he looks backwards to the original place of departure while walking, he strays of his path. What I'm saying is it is important to know your history but don't let it become your focus of the present and your future.
Some people say that you wouldn't know where your going unless you know where you came from. That isn't completely true. History can prove that. Lets just remember where we came from and in every present day, and lay the foundations for where we want to be in the future.
Thanks for responding and clarifying your statements CG.

Maybee you need to read all of the posts by Haitianboy.
For every cause there is an affect and every action a reaction. He was only trying to show the viewing public the negative effects of slavery.
We all know the negative effects of slavery. Be us white or Black. What he was doing way showing us he still have bottledup anger and hatred of what he knows of History. I resent the injustice my ancestors experience in the past. We blacks are still being mistreated nowdays, lets focus on advancing in these times rather than saying, (they kicked and bit us in the past). Keep in mind, these days they are still pushing us around today.
Wake up!! There were many negative effects that arose from slavery. And only dialogue and education will enable to better understand the struggles the different races experience.
It has nothing to do with Black militants and everything to do with education.
Lots of these black millitants are educated. Highly educated. But they aren't using their knowledge in a productive way, now are they? What Millitant you know of has pulled any black group out of poverty, sent thousands of black youths to school or established positive institutes in our neighborhoods? If you know of any let me know because I could use some assistance paying for my education.
Only dictatorships discourage freedom of Speech. 100% Bahamian, it appears that you will blend in very well in a Castro Regime!!
If you beleive in freedom of speach why are you jumping all over my opinions? You've just highlighted the hipocracy of your statement. But of cource the real dictatorlike way to combat freedom of speach is to stop one from saying something other than lashing back at what was said. Unless every one of us would be dictators right.

Hamper the process? No, it seems as though you are the one who is mis-understanding quotes. Read all of my posts on these subjects and see if I am agains Bahamians achieving better. Everything learned is not always considered education. Drug dealers know alot about drugs and how to smuggler them from point to point. Would you consider that education?
For example when asked why White Bahamians are better off than Black Bahamians, Many White Bahamians said Black Bahamians are LAZY!

The Main conclusion to all of these posts should help us see what is wrong with alot of us educated black Bahamians as yourself and other using this website. We all know where we came from. We all know where we want to be. We want to be in a prosperous and Harmonious level just like the other man does. But I think we are all just taking different paths to get to the same goal line. There can only be one correct path to that goal line and no one person can find it by themselves. We have to be together. And in order to get together we have to eliminate what drives us apart. People not speaking their minds, trying to be politically correct. And when someone tells us what is wrong and shows us the right way we become disobedient to what is right by covering it up with alot of fancy vocabulary and high priced college education level views.

Thank you, 100% Bahamian.
I don't know if you have read the posting under the tread "Not the Haitian Flag." (To be found in the same category as this thread.) If you have, you will see that you and I are "on the same page," mostly.
P.S. just checked, you did read it and posted there. Sorry I forgot!
Tafadhali 10-05-05, - 10:15 PM You haven’t heard a so-called black militant yet. Don't come with this foolishness you ignorantly state "I am a black Bahamian unlike you two."
You sound really fishy to me. You are either some peckerwood-cracker, from Amerikkka, or some white-conchy-joe beast, who resides in the Bahamas.
The Bahamas is still a British subject. And is no more than a 21st Century colony. With Islands full of (so-called) niggers, working for the cracker.
Some who work directly for white-beast. In their hotels, bars, clubs etc., or who are a citizen of a government who money is taxed by Britain. So I don't give a damn what you say. Racism and slavery has blinded all black people.
And yes slavery and colonialism still exist in the Bahamas and other parts of the Caribbean. No matter what name or label it is called today.
Next, to say that whites have move on [in reference to the other writer.]
Is absurd. Whites are still raping, robbing, and enslaving, colonizing not just the indigenous people of the earth, but even the air, land and sea. So you are right in a sense. That whites have moved on, but the question is on to what?
On to more devilishment. You silly negroes walk around still with the names of your former slave masters. How can things change when you are still a subject of your former slave master. To bear these names, upholds the sociological, psychological, and physical tie, link, ownership, and bondage to the beast who once owned you. Mr. Ferguson, Role, Saunders, Ingrham, Smith and his niggers. These his niggers, he left to run his big plantation "Bahamas" many of his niggers can own property, can own land, can own a business here and there. While 80% work for the crackers as maids, hotel workers or some type of domestic job, as domestics which is a slave term too. So in 1973 Britain feared Black Power as a government, and decided to grant a pseudo-form of independence under the rule of hand picked negroes. Who would carry on masters work even if he wasn't directly on or in the field or plantation. Even bear masters ownership and taxation on their own money. Take that cracker off of your money. If you were truly free indeed, you wouldn't have some peckerwood-British-cave-b$tch "the queen of England (who looks more like a drag queen today)" on your money....
I am just dropping a little here but there is much more to say. Because no people can truly be free. If the people who enslaved them or put them under the yoke of bondage and colonialism are the ones who called the shots on their so-called independence. The only way people get free is one they destroy the ones oppressing them, in a multiple act of destruction, which includes but is not limited to cultural destruction (destroy the racist-arrogant white-British "Gothic" culture out of you), ownership destruction (destroy the ownership of the slave master "his name" you still have to this day), social destruction (destroy the social interactions we had and have picked up during slavery and colonialism which was the black on black madness--we must look over and love one another), destroy hate (destroy the self hate and insecurity shoved on us, and that we adopted during slavery and colonization, we want to look like the conqueror the oppressor, hate our own lips, noses, and colors, as taught to us by our enemies, and we hate any black who speaks or talks revolution or destroying the enemy which is why Haiti become our enemies by choice, the real root is because of revolt, the enemy had to divide us from Haiti because she was to strong and powerful and had made her self independent by killing her oppressor with revolution, the same way Amerikkka made herself free from Brittan by killing the British with revolution) destroy our enemy (we must destroy our enemy physically, this is the only way to get rid of our oppressors. Amerikkka, Haiti got free by destroying their enemies. They didn't ask France or Brittan for indepence they killed their oppressors and took it. Amerikkka later got support from other white nations, and Nato, UN, the G8, etc. Many of these globalist are still here allies. But none of us, none of you came to support Haiti the first independent black nation. Called the jewel of the Caribbean. Which allowed whites to rape her and steal their way back into her, this time destroying her and sucking her dry, as they saw they could never own it again, so it is destroyed now but raped thoroughly. And CIA launched Coups keep her going backwards. The white man understands one form of communication. And no not money, but blood. In order to be free you must make the one who holds your freedom bleed. And all of you are born to make your wicked-oppressors, or the ones who holds down your true freedom bleed.)
why all the anger? ? I believe in black power- but along the lines of economic independence and practicality. no one wants to listen to someone who doesnt have reason in their voice. your tone is undiplomatic, not tactful or consistant with a better Bahamas for ALL Bahamians. The bahamas is not filled with just poor black people, and if it helps white people came here first after columbus did away with the original inhabitants of the islands.
Racism and slavery has blinded all black people- how so- not all black people were enslaved
this is borrowed and explains you to the "t"
The black culture cannot be taken seriously as full members of the intellectual community when they refuse to allow any type of academic debate involving race to occur without resorting to personal character attacks?
Serious minded thinkers do not attack the character of the person they have a disagreement with.
They accept that even a racist can still make a good point and rest in the knowledge that once they refute the argument the character and reasonings of the people who would put forth such an argument will be plain for all to see.
educate your mind in all accords we all can learn from each other :bahamas:

Sounds like a recipe for all-out war.
And even if anyone on this site were to "agree" with your "suggestions", it would mean gearing up to fight a "war" that "Black" people in general are not equipped or ready to fight. Your "Black militant" mentality and activities would be easily subdued and conquered, for you have no financial, intellectual, social or territorial ground to stand on.
And talk about messed up thinking - How do you figure that Haiti has become our "enemy of choice"? Let's make one thing clear: Haiti's deliberate imposition on this nation of The Bahamas is NOT conducive of building an empire - Let alone a Black one. Haiti citizens who come illegally to these shores are following the same template as the one that caused the turmoil in Rwanda: Impose until their burden creates conflict. And you dare to speak of Black power...Black "power" will come from Black persons respecting the developed rules and laws of other Black nations and pulling their own weight, instead of using and abusing others for their own benefit. Until the mentality is dropped where Black people stop looking to impose upon others for an easy ride, Black nations will remain stagnant and inefficient.
Real Black power eh? Your mindset is a prime example of why there are no "Black" superpowers. Always looking to blame someone else, instead of looking within yourself and to your own.

Come Come now Yorick give the militant a break, even though he's extremly radical there is some truth to his claims. We all know the white world destroyed Haiti, although I agree with you about their reaction to the devastation.
