BahamaWave 08-21-06, - 11:29 PM "The Bahamas government has come to the aid of Jamaica's senior male volleyball team with the news that it will cover all the team's expenses to the Caribbean Volleyball Championships in the Bahamas beginning August 20."
WTF?!!! Is this normal? How would we feel if they beat us?

It's cool. They couldn't afford for a Caribbean volleyball powerhouse to miss the games. It's better they invest in bringing them, it would make the games more exciting and besides, the hopeful increase in ticket sales (all the Jamaicans here will be there to support dey team) would hopefully offset the sponsorship costs and result in some profit being realised.

I thought any simple minded person could have seen that...
Oh well.
It was a strategic investment by the government: The last Caribbean games held here, there were more Jamaicans at the QE stadium than Bahamians supporting their team. Jamaicans usually come out selling Tshirts outside even with authentic jerk chicken in the stalls.

Are u suggesting that the sponsorship of the jamican team was merely a business move as oppose to a genuine gooodwill? It has come down to mere business?

they wrap the meat in banana leaves and cook it in an earth covered pit over smoldering Pimento wood? :D

My only concern is that they don't EVER cry 'poor mouth' when its time to send ANY of our teams ANYWHERE!

:titongue: What I think Will is trying to say is that, he isn't appose to helping another "Caribbean Brother" , but he doesn't see this generosity being returned or offered by the :jamaica: Government!!!!

Actually I think he is implying that The Government is doing this to fund a Jamaican team yet they often tell Bahamian teams that funds are unavailable. While I agree I wonder how much this funding amounted to and what impact the loss of The Jamaican team would have had on the championships (noone wants to host a boring and unsuccessful meet).
garnelleo 08-22-06, - 02:46 PM Business move or not. They better not have any problems sending our teams anywhere.

Excatly! This govt seems keen on setting outrageous precedents:
Wasting $2mil on bleachers,
Paying severence packages for a private company,
Now they paying the way for another country's team to attend a sports meet!
This bleeding heart syndrome gatta stop!
Thats MY money they squallering!
