"Because of the hardness of your *HEARTS*" -- obviously meaning plural. And "..said unto *THEM*". Them and hearts are plural. If he was speaking to an individual he wouldn't have said "Them" or "Hearts". But because he was, he has to say "wives". English does not make up for context of the society. In the OT laws and culture of the Israelites men could have more than one wife. Jesus was talking to a group of men some of the men may have not been married some my have had 1 wife some may have had more than 1 wife. The point you are missing here is Would a man divorce all his wives at once or just 1 at a time.... RockWell 09-04-06, - 11:20 PM Boy I tell ya! The founding members can't understand basic constructive sentences, they putting laws where laws ain never been before in the bible but whatever who has eyes let them see!!!! :sarcastic Ting-um 09-05-06, - 12:31 AM English does not make up for context of the society. You made a groundless assumption. As a matter of fact, you were flat out wrong. Not only that, you tried to convince people that you knew what you were talking about when you barely understand the difference between singular and plural. I don't care how many wives Israelite men had. You said they *HAD* to have more than one because Jesus said "wives". Which is completely brainless when its obvious he was talking to more than one man. Besides, Noah had one wife. Abraham had one wife. David had one wife at a time. Lot had one wife. Which doesn't even matter because you still made a mistake. Admit it. Shut up. Then move on. Thanks. Good night. RockWell 09-05-06, - 12:46 AM Wait wait.. THREAD CLOSED :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: Bahamasinmyheart 09-05-06, - 11:44 AM Vicky. Thank you for at least having the patience and intellect to respond to these ..... thinking of right word...... buffoon kind of fits but that’s maybe just my opinion of them.....oh i know!..... Bigots.... now thats a perfect fit. (Mari, Mikki, and Winter) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry I ran out of patience a long time ago. A leader requires both virtue and patience even in the face of such profound prejudice and ignorance. I don’t think any of the bigots are open minded enough to learn much from these postings but I hope others will read their words and see hate and prejudice for what it is. And M, M & W, Please also keep posting. Your words speak for themselves. Ya’ll argue that marriage (a LEGAL term that means different things to different people of different religions) should be forbidden to gays, what about to Hindus? What about to budhist…. They also don’t believe as your specific religion believes….should they be forbidden to marry as well? Some wise words that people from any country should appreciate: "[T]he effect of the religious freedom Amendment to our Constitution was to take every form of propagation of religion out of the realm of things which could directly or indirectly be made public business, and thereby be supported in whole or in part at taxpayers' expense. That is a difference which the Constitution sets up between religion and almost every other subject matter of legislation, a difference which goes to the very root of religious freedom[...] This freedom was first in the Bill of Rights because it was first in the forefathers' minds; it was set forth in absolute terms, and its strength is its rigidity. It was intended not only to keep the states' hands out of religion, but to keep religion's hands off the state, and, above all, to keep bitter religious controversy out of public life by denying to every denomination any advantage from getting control of public policy or the public purse." - dissent in Everson v. Board of Education of Ewing TP., 330 U.S. 1 (1947) Ting-um 09-05-06, - 01:08 PM And M, M & W, Please also keep posting. Your words speak for themselves. They also don’t believe as your specific religion believes….should they be forbidden to marry as well? Is that how its done?? When you can't argue anymore because you have nothing of value to say you resort to name calling?? Or maybe the reason you can't argue anymore is because you can't make up things and claim that I said them when I didn't. Or make up things and claim WinterGrace said them. By the way... Have a little more intelligence, please. Marriage is a religious ceremony. Therefore it is celebrated differently in various religions but the basic definition is still the same. Just as the concept of God is defined differently in different religions the basic definition remains the same. The concept of salvation/atonement -- the same. "The day that this country ceases to be free for irreligion it will cease to be free for religion - except for the sect that can win political power." Just because you say the earth is flat does not make it so. Marriage is a legal contractual agreement. (Yes I know its significance is deeper and more meaningful to the people involved…. But that meaning is and should be personal to those people involved.) To society at large it remains a LEGAL agreement. http://www.bahamas.gov.bs/bahamasweb2/home.nsf/b9823a8db3a12e7d852568a800638515/1c1b80063ddd23a98525700d00717322/$FILE/RGD%20-%20APPLICATION%20FOR%20A%20MARRIAGE%20LICENCE.pdf http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/marriage.shtml http://web.co.wake.nc.us/rdeeds/marriage/marriage.htm http://www.sctc.state.co.us/forms/MarriageApplication/39858.pdf#search=%22Marriage%20application%22 http://www.usvitourism.vi/EN/pdfs/marriage_app.pdf#search=%22Marriage%20application%22 http://www.evertek.net/pocahontas/Recorder_files/Marriage%20License.pdf#search=%22Marriage%20application%22 On none of these do I see a question that asks you to elaborate or explain how YOUR church feels about religion and/or require the signature of a Christian minister. Sure looks legal to me. Legal. Ting-um 09-05-06, - 01:54 PM So you are saying that one cannot get married without a license?? Bahamasinmyheart 09-05-06, - 02:23 PM I still don’t get it. The world is seemingly on a one way trip to oblivion and we just not getting it. G.W. Bush is the leader of the free world and his three biggest advisors are Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld. I really believe I could stop right there. That alone is scary enough for me but no it gets worse. The Islamic Fundementalist terrorist campaign is expanding in scope (of violence, range and magnitude). The United States has created a Pandora’s Box in Iraq and has already opened it. It can only go uphill from here? WRONG…. It can and is seemingly headed for a disaster of such magnitude I cant even imagine. And Iraq aint nothing compared to what could/might/likely will happen in North Korea. And North Korea aint nothing compared to what could/might/likely will happen in Iran. And……”might happen” is happening right now in Israel and Lebannon and threatening now more than ever to blow up and realize a world war like most of us have never experienced in our lifetimes. …..and notice the silence on the plight of black people worldwide…. The world not particulary interested in the fact that genocide is taking place right now on an escalated scale in Sudan. (there is also war in Somalia and conflict and Uganda). What about at home. When I was home for Junkanoo they closed bay street so we all had to cut thru the maze of streets (for the chronically lost like myself) in order to get from PI back to Cable Beach. I knew poverty existed but it was so easy to not see when you stick to the main roads. But on this detour the depth of poverty and misery just steps from Bay Street was profound. I was a little shocked and my family is from there. The continued victims of Katrina. The corruption of the governments and the false promises and dire consequences of the war on drugs. Black men in jail not at home, not in school, not at work and not able to vote. HIV and Aids. Poor people with no health insurance. Babies with no food. I could go on all day. But what does this have to do with this thread? Homophobia? Because this is what the powers that be want you to spend your time and dollars with. They’d rather pander to your more base prejudices than to appease your intellect. Its no mistake that this issue is brought up in the media and beat like a dead horse (gay shoes and lesbian gangs and other stupidness). It has the ability to mislead people and have them worked up about stuff that simply should not matter to them …and its intended to divide communities and people. Especially black people. “Karl Rove and the right-wing decision makers in the White House are not content to [Gays]. They hope to exploit us, and so they have co-opted conservative black clergy in an unholy alliance to drive a wedge between two progressive constituencies instead of building their own base within these communities. And yet many of our [black] pastors are all-too-willing conspirators in this transparent Republicna ploy to siphon off black votes”. “If the KKK opposes gay marriage, I would ride with them,” Rev. Gregory Daniels, a Chicago Black minister, said from the pulpit in February." So what im wondering is? When yall were down on Rawson Square worrying about what two moral, law abiding adults do in their personal lives to which has no effect on you. When the money basket went out …. Did the pastor/speaker mention any of these other things you should be worrying about? Did he pass around the basket for Darfur? :bahamas: Ting-um 09-05-06, - 02:43 PM Huh?? Limme ask again. Are you saying that you need a marriage license to be married?? |
