I recieved a letter from Water & Sewerage headed "Full/Additional Deposit Adjustment".
Regulations provide for a security deposit of $115.00.
Our records show that a deposit of $ 80.00 is currently held on the above account. Consequently, your account has been debited or charged $35.00,bringing your security deposit to the required amount."
IS THIS LEGAL ?? WAS THE PUBLIC AWARE OF THIS ??
I have been in my house for 22 years, why should we be penalized. I think new account holders should be charged.:dgi:

you dont need legal advise for everything...especially for a $35 discrepency; though this could be a situation where mass tort is eminent. legal advise isnt free you know...get of your arse and think for youself... call them and inquire what the hell is going on:
1. why wasnt this advertised in the paper or on the news or on the radio?
2. Why do they need your money
3. why isnt this simply for new customer
and
4. demand that the 35 bucks be credited to yuor account!
if anything, after youve had services for so long, most utility companies elsewhere, usually give you your money back in the form of crediting it to your account, as youve shown over the past years you have a level of credilibility with them...they dont need the money(I would like to think)...as this is a service you will always need and you probably wont get the deposit bak until you wake up dead!...something sounds suspect here....maybe you cand ig a little more...
and that is all...

Thanks much for the replies so far...I have emailed the person who sent the letter,(she requested this be done if there is a problem) but she is out of offfice on holidays.
I had planned to send this to the press, but waiting for her response on her return. However I came across this site which I find interesting and decided to throw it out for discussion.
Did anyone else get such a letter??
