2 jets costing in excess of 40 grands...what the hell is the problem with immigration...this is expensive! why not make the people who is employing them to pay their way back home. we cant just consume the cost! this is too expensive...they need a more pragmatic way of sending them home. this doesnt make sense.

Well, there are only two ways - boat or plane. I wounder how much a boat would cost? I am sure it could carry more people at one time, big boat that is. Of course the best way would be to charge the Hatian government for the costs, but we know that will never happen. Looks like we are stuck with the bill. :hot:

Yeah, that always bothered me too. If they come by boat, send back on da boat! None a dem probably never flew on a plane in their life, where is the deterrent?

Advertisement in Haiti:-
Go to the Bahamas!
You get free land....
Free health care....
and work anywhere..
You can even become an MP!

But if you fail...
and get caught...
at least you get to ride on 737!

please lets not get carried away OR flatter ourselves! the Bahamas a paradise for haitians??? i think not. try TCI! there are loads of them, except unlike the ones we have at home, the ones here are usually well-educated, and integrated with good jobs (bank managers, own airlines, work in supermarkets, etc). most of them are also fluetn in english, french and spanish! so i would say the lucky ones end up here, the REALLY lucky ones in the US...the ones who end up in bahamas mmust be like - for f@ck sake!!!:realmad:

As for being an MP: surely if you are Bahamian you can be an MP...I dont really think the fact that one/both your parents may be haitian matters. and it shouldn't. now if you arent bahamian, i reckon you arent. point blank. every and anything else is a rumour.

One man's paradise is another man's war zone. It all depends on one's perspective and experience. For the couNtless Haitians running from the war zone that is Haiti, the Bahamas is relatively 'paradise'. Not the proverbial utopian paradise, but it is a hell of alot better.

In any event the comparisons made between TCI, the US, and the Bahamas, is irrelevant to the issue of illegal imigration. The fact is, it is a problem, and the 'glowing' report of Haitians in TCI doesnt extinguish the problems we have here in the Bahamas.

I dont think the Bahamian government can get around the cost. I think we must relent to the fact that repatriation efforts will be a permanent fixture in the budget.

Think about it from this respect, it would probably be alot more expensive to allow them to stay in the Bahamas. Having to provide these persons with health care, education, housing, for them and whatever offspring they produce, the costs would mount exponetially!

you have a point but why not make the employers pay for it as opposed to the Bahamian taxpayer.

We may always have to foot the bill, but it doesn't have to be a $40K bill for Bahamasair!

The HMBS Nassau, and Bahamas sometimes bring them in from Exuma , Inagua, wherever. So why not let them take them back to Haiti.

We gat diplomatic ties with Haiti, they ain't ga blow them outta the water!

Or are there other issues hmmmm.... Is the Government afraid that the Marines cant navigate to Haiti, go off track, and we have another Cuban incident...?

Or could it be possible that the government knows that those boats are so poorly maintained that they may break down half way there!
