This morning the honourable minister was live on ZNS. He said that ALL the schools in Abaco would reopen today! He needs to check his facts. My son did NOT go to school today! Repairs not finished! Maybe next week! Sad to think he didn't get an update before going live!
But he is most confused about a policy he told the people of North Eleuthera about. His explanation as to why the students could not attend Spanish Wells All Age was because.."we have a national policy which prohibits the transport of students across the water.." What policy is he talking about? The secondary school students of Green Turtle Cay, Guana Cay, Man O War and Hope Town MUST travel by ferry across the water everyday to attend school! The have been doing this since the government phased out the All Age Schools on these cays more than 10 years ago! I'd really like for him to explain this! Does he mean only Primary students? He can't be this confused and misinformed!

I also think on Grand Bahama, students need to ferry from Sweeting's Cay to go to High School in Freeport, but I believe there is still some All Age School out east.

I heard him on the radio earlier this afternoon talking abuot the delay with some contractors. He sounded a little frustrated with a hint of shock. I wonder what he expected when contracts are awarded like just two weeks before school opens.

Is it still one of the best public schools academically though? Or was that Jack Hayward? Or was that someone else?

Both schools are at the national average, but more and more students are pulling a 1.0 or less GPA, many of them female students.

I think I would seriously consider suicide if I ever saw that on my transcript.

Yeh its something I dont hear alot of Bahamians talk about, but I wonder what the drop-out rate is in the Bahamas. And so many of our youngsters are just checkin out man..their bodies are in school but their minds are elsewhere for whatever reason.

I mean I guess you cant keep someone in highschool past the age of majority if they arent pulling a 2.0, but so many students are still getting the "thank you for attending" certificate when they graduate - meaning they didnt attain the lowest diploma available.
