The Black Caucus is looking at launching a lawsuit against College football due to its hiring practice regarding coaches. With 119 colleges in Division 1A there are only FIVE black coaches, but approximately 48% of the players are black.Question, in this day & age where people are always saying that race is not an issue, do you believe that Negro's should have to go to court to even be considered for a job?

Their case will be almost impossible to prove no matter how many statistics they produce as each College has its own hiring practices and procedures. Also College Football is a results driven profession and in general winners retain their jobs and losers don't. Unless a conspiracy can be shown to exist this case will depend on the desire of the presiding judge to create policy. This does not mean that the action is frivolous or unnecessary though. It is evident to most people of colour that follow College Football that a black coach receives less of an opportunity and time to rebuild a program than a white coach does.

It would be great if these actions were not necessary but increasingly we find that they are. It would be interesting to see the statistics regarding schools with similar historical winning percentages and when a black coach got the axe versus a white coach at a similarly historically successful school.

BINGO!!!

Its about money. If you don't win, the school doesn't make money. I don't think any college cares if you're black, white, or martian -- as long as you win.

Aren't we talking about college football?? And its interesting that I'm agreeing with what somebody else says but you hop on what I say. And, from the initial post -- I don't think they're suing over historical racism. They're suing on racism that they claim to perceive currently.

Please. Name the college that would trade a winning black coach for a losing white coach.

The point is there are not that many black coaches in division 1A. And to answer your question Ty Willingham and Notre Dame.

I understand the point. So you're supposed to hire black coaches because there aren't many?? So the Bahamas should elect a female Prime Minister because there has never been one?? And the Bahamas is a pretty sexist society. But if we follow this logic, we should combat the Bahamas' sexism by electing a woman Prime Minister for no other reason than her gender??

Ty Willingham, replaced by Charles Weis right?? Doesn't Weis have 3 superbowl rings?? And didn't Willingham go 21 - 15 over three years and 6 - 5 in his last year?? Didn't Charles Weis go 9 - 3 last year??

Lets see.

55% vs 75%

You're right. That is racist.

The question that should be asked is, is the process fair without predjudice, or is the caucus mad just because the minority has a minority share?

Its the process they're looking at.They had to do the same thing in pro ball to give Black coaches a chance and look at how succesful that was.
