Well the New Orleans superdome re-opened last night and the popular consensus is,"it is just great." I for one feel that it is a testomonial to the shallowness of an inhmane society and particularly to Ray Nagin...who is a complete moron. How can they tout this irrelevant event as a good ting when folks are still homeless?Who to hell cares about football,if kids have no home?

Id have thought they would have learned from Katrina, that city is an accident waiting to happen .. course it was before anyway with all the crime ... then came the hurricane .. but still .. nobody with any common sense is going to go back there to rebuild knowing what happened before could happen again ... unless they are going to rebuild the entire city above sea level now ...?

Course some people will always blame it on Bush ... oh well ... LOL.

Well..U right bro,the city doesn't belong there. It needs a lot of re-planning to be rebuilt properly. But! Opening the freakin Superbowl before the interests of the residents are put in order? I blame Nagin,as mayor he should be lookin out fa folks!

What I wanna know is, how come there is debate over what should happen at ground zero in New York due to the lives lost and horror experienced there on 9/11, but lives were lost and horrors were experienced at the Superdome too..

Its funny what they choose to remember and respect, and what they choose to move on from. 9/11 - "We shall never forget". Katrina - "Lets play football!"

new orleans is a city...if you want people to come back you have to have soemthing for them to come back too...like jobs and entertainment...even if the saints are a loosing team (from what I remember)...this is no different than the good people of exuma deciding that we want to have the regatta after a bad storm in the fall...life moves on...makes no sense in wallowing in pity...besides the saints coming back was done with private contributions...from what I gather.

I dont know if any of you have had the new orleans experience pre-Katrina but man let me tell you...it is like no other...if they think they can whitewash the city and get rid of the people there...the law of unintended consequences dictates otherwise...its just like whitewashing an out island...westend or goodman's bay...the people make it...

The thing is though, who is gonna come back to New Orleans after what happened with the flooding? Those levies breached at Cat1/Cat2. In order for people to come back, they have to be more than reasonably certain that what happened in Katrina wont happen again.

New Orleans will be built, but it will take time.
I support any form of normalcy being brought back to the city. The Superdome is a city icon and a national landmark.

people will come back when they have soemthing to come back too...jobs, homes...that's just like saying if the Bahamas is wiped out from a hurricane...where will you go...nowhere this is your home...even if you have t build your thatch roof hut this is your home...no different with the people of new orleans...that is their home...and America having all the superpower and experience...and deep pockets...why cant they ensure that their citizens stay home...

say levees breached...sweety they were bombed...believe that!

I can not believe that one....WTC's bombed, but the levee's bombed?
Nah...
They were just old structures, that could not take the pressure.

thats my point though Taff. How many companies will rebuild in the lower 9th wards where they either wont get insured or cant afford the insurance, or where they have to be in fear every year that their investment is about to get swept out to sea?

And how are the people going to have homes to come back to unless they build the homes themselves? FEMA cant even give the people trailers, they rather have the trailers sit out in a field and rot than give them to the people who need them. I know many New Orleans residents want to come back home..but remember the situation with the schools there as well?

The schools there were already some of the worst in the nation BEFORE Katrina.

self-reliance...once they figure out you have to help yourself...the federal govt be damned...but then I am looking at it from the perspective of an islander...if you want to make it happen you have to do it yourself. and no companies were in the lower 9th ward like that anyway and those people owned their homes and some of them didnt have the right kind of insurance...and the state may have to provide insurance for its population...like florida...some insurance companies wont even enter some areas of the Florida market(Citizens insurance company...look it up)...why...because of the same reason...the risk is too great and they dont want to hurt they heads worrying about how they will eek out a profit (some of what an actuary-like my guy- does by the way)
and the education system...I can put the same psyche game on you in our country...the education system is deplorable...but wont we come back and rebuild if the big one was gonna come and wipe out our country AFTER? there is always a way.

A Hurricane didnt take out New Orleans though, simply the levees gave way, it was designed bad from day 1 by the french .. cant compare that to the Bahamas .. besides they have many other cities in the US to live in .. and from what i heard it wasnt that great before anyway, tons of crime and poverty ... but on a side note i guess i cna understand if they were born and grew up there their whole life ... why it would mean so much to go back ...

Even Jesse Jackson does not believe that one, anymore! (I listen to his radio program every Sunday.)

the "side note" is all that matters precious rory. ;) and if it was so much poverty and crime there...why were so many tourist visiting?
