I have always contended that the minister for works Mr. Bradley Roberts has the political acumen and diplomacy of an elephant in a china store.

For those who had doubts it is now frighteningly clear that Mr. Roberts is not fit to serve in such a powerful position. I would have thought that minister would have been more cautious in his verbal deliberations.

Mr. Roberts over his political career has been one who same to have a knack for attacking private citizens from the safe confines of parliament. In short he has abuse that privileged to the detriment of defenseless individual.

Abusing your power while in opposition is one thing doing the same while a cabinet minister of the commonwealth of the Bahamas is another thing entirely. It appears that the lofty position of cabinet has not tamed the bad one. He has shown that he is “badder” than ever.

A case in point is the good minister presentation during the bill for an act to implement the United Nations convention to prevent and combat terrorism. In his contribution minister Bradley Roberts accuse the tribune editor Eileen Carron of being a terrorist and the tribune of being a weapon of mass destruction! Mr. Roberts’s behavior was such that it left thousands of Bahamians wondering if Mr. Roberts had a little too much of his liquid commodity.

One would have thought that the minister would have given the bill the soberness and seriousness it deserves. What is more frightening that Mr. Roberts verbal garbage is the deafening silence of the speaker and the rest of his comrades in attendance. Certainly I what have thought that ministers Fred Mitchell and Obie wilcombe would have stood on a point of order and stop Mr. Roberts in his tracks because both men are veteran journalist.

Maybe they were afraid of the bad one or afraid that he would have thrown in their face their recent attacks on the press. Politics make strange bedfellows indeed. If the recent attacks against the press by the government portends of things to come the Bahamian people are in for a rough ride the next four years.

The fact that these attacks are coming from senior members of the government of the Bahamas is very revealing. Couple with these attacks is the difficulty in obtaining public information. Bahamians we need to demand that this government keep the peoples business in the sunshine of openness and transparency.

Let the government know that we are not going back to those dark days of information starvation. We simply cannot let a bunch of thin skin politicians turn back the hands of time.
These tin gods need to be reminded that the press is an indispensable spook in the wheels of a democracy. One in truth cannot have a true democracy without an independent and free press.

If minister Bradley Roberts was not accustomed to shooting off his mouth before engaging his brain, he would not have pick a fight with over a one hundred years of penmanship. Then again if the big bad one had the political commonsense God gave the dodo bird he certainly would not have pick this fight with the venerable Tribune.

For those who know the Tribune history can attest that this newspaper have humble many a men over the years…. men much greater than minister Bradley Roberts.

If prime minister Perry Gladstone Christie intends to salvage his government he has got to make some critical decision: chief among these decision is the removal of Mr. Roberts from his cabinet. It is obvious that minister Bradley Roberts is “bad” for his government.

What do you think guys? Do you think Mr. Roberts out did himself this time?
