bahamiangoddess 10-04-06, - 12:27 AM I agree, when you lie down with dogs you will get up with flies.
pharoah 10-04-06, - 12:51 AM If we had a sensible foreign policy I have no doubt that the United States would have bend over backward to help us out by giving us more time to get our affairs in order.
We have threated our neighbor and friend to the north like they are lepers knowing quite well that one should never bite the hands that feeds you.
Hopefully Cuba and China will send the bodies that will keep our number one industry in top shape. The PLP and Fred Mitchell is playing dice with our economy with petty spite and vindictiveness.
It aint long now before these Egyptians we see now, we will see no more!
like I told Rory, the US doesn't care about the Caribbean...
And it appears the caribbean doesnt care about the US ..

chancellor 10-04-06, - 02:59 AM I will watch to see how this go about. Canada got a 17 month extention....if we were as sober as Canada (like how we used to be) we probably would not be in this "bed" of uncertainty. It's so ironic, we talk about being on our own and defiant and making our own foreign policy, but we have not taken any steps towards doing that, like becoming more self sufficient. We have to rely on every other nation with imports and tourism, neglected the cause to revive the financial sector, letting it slide to 4th place, yet we want to set our own foreign policy...and the funny part is that WE WANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!.......sigh.....well whatever, we've made our bed as comfortable as we think it is......time to go to sleep!
12play 10-04-06, - 06:33 AM The government's solution to the loss of jobs in the Tourism sector will be to hire more civil servants; they are preparing the ground now. I guess that they will float the Bahamain dollar, so get rid of your cash and put your money into real property. The dollar will crash; the big boys are straight with their accounts in Europe and the Cayman Islands. We too fool and deserve our misfortune because we like style over substance.Steups.

Tell them that!
I don’t see this as a major problem, a problem yes, but not a major one - certainly not equal to a cat 6 storm! There will be a period of adjustment for the US traveler but if he really wants to travel he will get his passport and be OK. Americans love to travel! They will get sorted out.
I got some friends coming from the US today. A few months ago they told me they were coming down and asked if they needed a passport. Their travel agent (do people still use travel agents?) Told them “no” but they were not sure about that. (Why would they think I would know?) But I did tell them about the new travel restrictions coming up next year. So they said “We want to start traveling outside the US. We’ll get our passports now and avoid the rush.” They got ‘em. :sailing:

It seems that you have summed it up rather well here. To teach Fred Mitchell a lesson The US will inconvenience their entire populace and alienate the whole world. Maybe you should be Minister of Foreign Affairs.

With all the other problems the US has I would think that Fred Mitchell is nothing more than a minor irritant to the US - very minor irritant. lol.
nationbuilder 10-04-06, - 10:09 AM It ceratinly is a sobering prospect. Tourist arrivals for 2006 are already down suprisingly, seeing as this year we have been virtually hurricane free.
