This has been puzzling me for some time now. I mean we all surely feel that we live in or at least have the ability to enjoy a progressive Democratic Government system within the Bahamas. However, we seem to elect or seem to have elected people based on loud and antagonistic speeches delivered at "rallies" as opposed to the fundamental ability of these people to achieve their pronounced promises and goals.
Furthermore, our broadcasting airways haven't been as non- partisan as it should be in a progressive democracy at all. If it is a question of funding or political influence, then we may be missing a message from a viable candidate who may/ may not have the advantages that other candidates may have. That is wrong! Then again we have those members of parties who "ride the tidal wave" into office keeping as quiet and non-active as possible. Unfortunately these people are given positions of power that require ability, vision and pro-active decision making. Well, absolutely that is a waste of time and resources for any organization.
So I guess I am trying to find out or understand:
Why do the Bahamian voting populous accept and feel so comfortable with the gossip driven agenda's of the perspective leaders of the community?
Why is it not a requirement and mandatory that if at least the leaders and Deputy leaders of these parties are required to participate in a televised or radio debate on the issues that their parties lobby for the publics vote. I tired collecting booklets... the our plans and the like and then after the lights are off, the souse is finished, and the Kalik cooler is empty; these books ain't even worth the paper they printed on!?
Is there some tenant of our electoral process that forbids debates; disallows debates? Or do the Bahamian voting public just simply need to advocate for it as a mandatory component for those seeking election to office?
If we are an intelligent voter and a caring citizen of The Bahamas why do we join in the gossip and turn a blind eye to the facts? When will we reform a system that helps us as a nation rather than the selfish ego's and arrogant attitudes of elected officials?
Lol, all just a thought................................
