View Full Version : Parents 2 Slack!
nationbuilder 10-08-06, - 04:39 PM I just saw something today that really angered me.
I was at home when I heard a knock at my door. When I went to the door a young girl no more than 10/12 I guess, was there asking me if I wanted to sponsor her school.
I looked around to see if anyone was with her..and she was alone.
Now what angered me was this - how are you gonna let your child go out alone knocking on the doors of strangers asking them for money?
Whats to stop someone from pulling that child into their home and raping her or worse?
I just dont get why some Bahamian parents are so slack and irresponsible with their children!!

Maybe we need to rambo such children, report the incident to the police while holding the child until the police arrive; this may shame the parents to fly right and cut the slackness.

Trust me stuff like that has crossed my mind. Thing is some of these parents so messed up that when you try to do things to help or protect their children they try to crucify you for it..
But when they do things that put their children at risk the only fault they see is in the person who assaults or kills their child.
WinterGrace 10-08-06, - 05:28 PM Just last week Friday someone called in to Joy FM and told Kevin that a parent dropped their child at the school gate around 6am in complete darkness until the school opened. They said the child looked 5 or 6!!!! If there is a pattern someone watching could easily take that child.

I remember when Cordell Farrington was on his murderous rampage here. For a time you couldnt find a child on the streets and all the schools kept their gates locked during the day.
After he was caught, parents went back to not checking for the safety of their children. Some of the children I see walking to school are so young it shocks me that a parent could put a 5/6 year old on the road and tell them to walk to school or to the buss stop.

I understand your sentiments. But.....isn't that the way it wa always done? People usually know their neighbors and parents should only allow dem to solicit the ones they know. All cautions aside,I mussee admit....I am a guy dat believes most people are good, when dey disappoint me, it een good!

I hear ya. But I have never seen this girl, and this girl has never seen me - so even if she is from around here, I am a stranger to her.
Times have changed man. Even your family members will rape and molest your kids - so what you think about a neighbour you barely know? It just isnt wise to send your kid away from you without supervision to go to or possibly in a bunch of people's homes asking for cash.
If anything, be with your child.

And whats worse, parents will send their children out as peddlers armed with fake "sponsor sheets". Its disgusting what some parents will do to their children for money.
We all know about parents who prostitute their kids, or allow their boyfriends to assualt their kids because he is paying the bills or atleast paying for her hair and nails to get done.
I was out yesterday and saw this woman with her three kids. She was yelling and cursing at her kids and treating them so badly and i felt so sorry for them. One of her kids was about 3 years old and was asking her mother for something to eat and she cussed the toddler and made her get away from her.
The child's pampers smelt from the door. She clearly needed to be changed.
I just shook my head. The child walked away crying (and hungry).
garnelleo 10-08-06, - 08:44 PM And whats up with those sposer sheets, do they actually work anyway? Tell them go work in City Market or something and learn how to earn a dollar.

No help or hope reach certain people while others gettin' richer; these are the same folk who would fight you for their party...go figure

I was tempted to call the police the other night for this little boy..probably about 7 or 8, who was standing outside a popular pharmacy here begging for money.
Though I dont see this too much here, I understand that this kind of thing might be happening on the increase in other places. Obviously this boy's parents put him up to be out there begging..
Since we get sick of grown men begging I guess they figure that no one will say no to child.

most the time it is not a real sponsor project .. just begging for money basically so the parents can buy more crack ..

There should be some kind of ammendments to the law to more strongly cover these things, although I know there is already a law on the books about child peddling.

Ya know what sometimes I believe some of our people rather wallow in poverty and wait on Government to bring the proverbial "ham" n "turkey" to them during election time. Alot of our natives aren't motivated and lack alot of self esteem and drive. I ain't saying they all do but I mean even in abject poverty you would at least want your children to be as presentable as possible.
