The Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land is something our country should be high up on the priority list!

The IGR is being held this week who in our govt is representing our country at this event surely the money would be far better spent there than Fred parading around in turkey... (http://www.gpa.unep.org/bin/php/home/index.php)

The Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities is the only intergovernmental programme that addresses the inter-linkages between freshwater and the coastal environment

The major threats to the health, productivity and biodiversity of the marine environment result from human activities on land - in coastal areas and further inland. Some 80% of the pollution load in the oceans originates from land-based activities. This includes municipal, industrial and agricultural wastes and run-off, as well as atmospheric deposition. These contaminants affect the most productive areas of the marine environment, including estuaries and near-shore coastal waters. The marine environment is also threatened by physical alterations of the coastal zone, including destruction of habitats of vital importance to maintain ecosystem health.

and given the ish going on with Guana, athol Island, West End, Bimini, hell everywhere this is event is so timely...I just hope we take heed...

U didn't miss lol. I do know that within the Maritime Affairs they have people that deal with Law of the Sea, marine or maritime affairs in general. Ship registry yes but they do have liasons with pretty much all aspects of Maritime and marine related issues relative to the Bahamas. Then again I ain't intimately involved it was just what I heard....................

people in London dont live day to day in Nassau (govt)...really it has nothing to do with law of the sea and those types of maritime affairs...People from Nassau(central govt and even local govt reps) I can only hope are there...Im mad we dont have transparency like that...your post persuant to this subject comes of so secretive like your scared to say...The Bahamas is a free democracy...govt's business is the people's business and we have a right to know.

Lol, no not any apprehension at all on my behalf. I was tryin ma best to explain info I had asked about as best I could without seeming authorative on the matter or making any assertions that I couldnt prove; that's all. I try my best to pretty much say what I can validate as opposed to trying to be some maverick of sorts with unending info.

N I do agree with you on the level of transparency of which I think is a result of our not truly understanding what honest democracy is as opposed to party philosophy type democracy.

N also I would guess that the BEST Commission would be the appropriate Nassau- based Agency to rep us? I ein tink the PM want Mr. Smith travelling right now.... he might be under strict arrest or confinement to Nassau only, lol.
