My lord. Last nite I went to the hospital here to visit someone and the stench in that place was so thick I was trying to hold my breath the entire time I was on the ward.

Now I'm no stranger to doctor visits so I could almost write a book on hospital smells and hospital cleanliness. Hospitals should have a bleached out, "too clean" kind of smell. But the ward smelt like it hadnt been throuroughly and properly cleaned in I dont know how long.

I cant imagine being comfortable in there if God forbid I had to be admitted for any reason, and I cant imagine how the hygenic integrity of the place can be assured if it smells the way it does - its like trying to convince your neighbour that your bathroom is clean when the stench hits them from the door.

That is scary.Especially considering all hospitals are chronically fighting such pathogens as Strep and Staph, which seem to thrive there.:sailing:

Exactly. I'm not exaggerating..it really was bad. Its bad enough that you have to literally wait hours and hours just to be intially evaluated by a nurse there, which could then lead to a few more hours wait before a doctor sees you.

But to have to potentially be admitted and then the facility has the potential to make you sicker than when you came in?

I thought you were gonna say the aids ward at PMH...man that place will make you cry...not neccessarily the scent but what you see...man it was one woman in there she was so weak all you could see was skin and bones...and it seemed like just to breath she needed to use every bit of strength in her body...she was so low...when she slept with her eyes wide open...'

what happened to cleanliness being next to godliness?

PMH aint much better!

Perhaps they smell a little better but they have other problems that too are scary.

My kid was in hospital over the Easter Holiday and the window over her crib had no screen and was not closed properly so 'draft' was coming in. :uh: Additionally the crib was so close to the window that she could reach it and attempted to open it a few times. I had her moved to a crib near the wall away from the 'draft'.

Also when walking toward the childrens ward late one evening I happened to look out the window of the 'long hall' (just after you get upstairs from the main lobby) and the Crats ( RATS but I call them crats cause them rats so big they look like cats) was all over the palce. Man they was everywhere. It was literally twenty to forty of them.:screw: And I was like rats in the yard Lord what next, lemme get my child out of here.

Hey, the Rand has been below aweful for decades.

I had to have an operation there as a child: the process not only killed me off for a minute or two, but during the hours of recovery my parents saw and heard rats scuttle around the nursery.

As an adult, I had to make deliveries to the Rand as part of a job. The stench between the so called 'incindary' of biological parts and delivery area was so bad, that delivery people were nasaesus(sp?) for hours after.

Really? Thats messed up. The other day I had to have an outpatient surgery, and yeh the private hospitals charge you for pretty much everything down to booty paper and air, but atleast they are CLEAN and you get served before your condition worsens into a critical state while sitting waiting for someone to acknowledge you.

I took a friend there one time who was so ill his kidneys were shutting down and they took forever to see him - then when I tried to question them on whether someone could please come and see him the :taped: out front messed up and caught an attitude with me...

I had to remind her that everyone up in that piece pays her salary. It wasnt until I got ignant that he was finally taken in the back and given the treatment he needed.

Had he stayed out front for an hour more Lord knows what kind of kidney damage he might have suffered. And I have had experiences like that too when I was ill and had to sit bawled over in pain for hours before someone would see me. Its absolutely a disgrace.

I know you have hard working people in the PHA on GB, but that doesnt take away from the sad state of affairs we have to go through here.

And the thing is, the private medical centers close in the afternoon, so you have no choice but to go to the Rand and languish.
