View Full Version : Boycott The Bahamas! GodSign 10-25-03, - 10:34 AM maybe I'm late but has anyone seen this website.www.boycottbahamas.com it tells boaters not to come here. CG 10-25-03, - 10:53 AM maybe I'm late but has anyone seen this website.www.boycottbahamas.com (http://www.boycottbahamas.com/) it tells boaters not to come here. Yes, I saw it. I don’t give it much credence. There are always those who don’t like anything that is done. Boaters who want to come will come. Those that don’t, will not. No web site is going to have that much influence. germantiger 10-26-03, - 07:49 AM don't underestimate this website. More than 14.000,00 people visited the site since it came up. Freeport's Port Lucaya is empty. Three boats were there last week, where usually 30 to 40 boats are. The bars and restaurants, the Strawvendors, Taxidrivers, everybody is suffering here and feels the direct impact of the boycott. Some of the Boater's said, that even if the Government would decrease the fees back to where they were they wouldn't return to the Bahamas because of the bad attitude that some of our fellow Bahamian expressed in their comments on the site. Most of the comments placed by Bahamian were spiteful, nasty and arrogant, not recognizing that we need those Boater's here as well as other tourists. Yes, I saw it. I don’t give it much credence. The problem is not the web site, it is as you said. The attitude of the local people stinks! We are lost, until the time comes that we are ready to understand that tourism is a SERVICE industry. Bad News! I dont see it coming anytime soon! Alien 10-26-03, - 07:52 PM they gat a guy on bahamians online called harrald!!!! and he is on a one man crusade to destroy the bahamas!!!!:bored: he is kinda cute when he rambles on with his insanities!!!!!:) i wouldnt be surprised if he had something to do with this??? Harald Fuhrmann has been a member of this site for almost a year now. I posted a thread about him back in January: http://www.bahamasissues.com/showthread.php?t=125 I had the opportunity to meet him in person about a month ago and got to know him a little better. I doubt that he had anything to do with this new Boycott site because from my impression he appears to be a loner. gemmanyah 10-26-03, - 11:03 PM maybe I'm late but has anyone seen this website.www.boycottbahamas.com it tells boaters not to come here. Any yatchsman that can afford hundreds of thousands for a yatch can certainly afford two or three hundred dollars to sail the yatch through the Bahamas. Lets have more confidence in our tourism product than that. This Boycott is a Temporary thing. Our product is uniqe and pristine among them all. We will win in the end and they will return to our shores for our product. You can't experience Eleuthera in Florida. Its ours. Stay confident and firm. germantiger 10-27-03, - 02:55 PM girl, it is time for you to wake up. What do you think the Cayman Islands, Aruba, BVI's Barbados and all the other beautiful islands in the Carribean have to offer: Sun, Sea and Beaches. Same thing here, whatelse do we have to offer what the others don't have. Did you ever visit the Atlantis in Nassau? If you did, then you might have recognized the friendly service and attitude that you receive there. And that is, because Sol Kerzner trained his people very well, before he led them deal with tourists. Go anywhere here in Freeport or anywhere else in the rest of the Bahamas, all you get is a terrrible attitude all over the place. You think that is what people pay for? Food, Drinks, even our local beer is completely overprized, living expenses are far too high, compared to other islands in the Carribean. And on top of that, tourist get a nasty, stinky attitude, do you really think, they will come back for that again. I doubt it. I understand that Mr. Fuhrmann may sound offensive to those who do not understand what he has been through. I do understand. Mr. Fuhrmann does not hate the Bahamas or Bahamians. He married a Bahamian woman and chose to make his life here. He purchased property here and ran into problems with people trying to "swindle" him. He took the matter to court but instead of having his property rights restored he encountered sneaky backhanded connections, corrupt lawyers who transferred the title of his property to their own names rather than his, delayed court dates and threats against his safety and his property. When he brought these things to the attention of those "in authority" such as the Bar Association he was brushed off. He has lost nearly a half million dollars, and still, after eight years has not resolved his property issues. Now he resides in Germany and must fly back and forth for court appearances which is financially stressful to him. Who wouldn't be frustrated and angry over all that? It's easy to understand how he could develop such a negative view towards a country where he has experienced so much injustice and distress. Instead of researching the situation (which I am pleased to see you doing) or showing sympathy, most Bahamians berate him because they are concerned about the effect all this has on tourism. Instead, they should try to assist him in resolving the matter in an equitable manner. That is the only Christian thing to do. The whole situation is very similar to what has happened to me. And it is no coincidence that I am being victimised by the same groups. This has resulted in many distressing experiences with the Bahamian legal system. My previous posts go into more detail about my own experiences. It is no secret that things must change. It is no secret that our beautiful country is very prone to corruption. I am a Bahamian, I love this country as much as anyone else. This is my country but I can also see the evil here. That is not being negative, it is realistic and it is necessary to realise that, if things are ever to change. If you had a child who was addicted to drugs, wouldn't you still love the child. Absolutely you would, if you are a good parent. But if you are a good parent you would also recognise the wrong in the child and do what you could to correct those wrongs. The legal system here is sluggish, inefficient, stinking of corruption and often, incapable of producing justice due to blatant incompetence. Yes, we have beautiful shores with sun-kissed sand and pure azure waters. We have wonderful, friendly people and so much potential in so many areas. But we also have our problems, and ignoring them won't make them disappear or get any better. We have to route out the evil in our society. Look at our crime rate, look at our courts, look at our leaders... there is a lot that needs to be done to clean this country up. I hope that you are not reading this thinking "what a negative message" but rather thinking about what part you could play in improving this country. Let's not be offended by harsh words from people like Mr. Fuhrmann, let's instead look at what our country has done to offend him causing him to take this harsh approach. Isn't that what the BIble tells us to do? Lisa Wells www.bahamasb2b.com Ask yourself why the tourist industry are having trouble, there are really many other places to go besides Bahamas. What do you think will happen in Cuba when Castro finally dies, do you think it will have any affect on the Bahamas tourist industry if Cuba opens up, Bahamas is expensive and it is really crazy that not more Americans doesnt actually desides to retire here, the ones i know actually seriosly considers to leave and relocate elsewhere in the carribean. Ostrom nah after he said bahamians are stupid....money grubbing and dishonest!!!! i try not to pay much attention to the"FUHRER"... but to each his own.....:shhh: a con artsist i am not...... someone who is pro bahamian is what i am....:lafs: not to go against anything that is right or wrong just because it isnt bahamian...... but........ and BIG BUT... any thing or anyone that undermines the culture or stability in our country, via any small means or large i take to very very seriously!!!!! and mr "FUHRER" is one of those people!!!!!! he is a beast!!! along with people such as carol boyd hallot...(where is she now???) nbc....(for their ridicilous war on drugs drama in the eighties) the lasts ambassador from the u.s....i forget his name????:dgi: hehehehe:shhh: lynn cheney...(for her incredible hard on during the war on drugs saga) but aside from this....they are all cool people!!!:biggie: :bye2: Delroy 11-13-03, - 12:55 AM oh you know harrald!!!! then you know what he is capable of!!!! hate monger that he is!!!To tell you the truth yk2, The only thing he is capable of is what God allows him to do. The same goes for all the others involved in this campaign against our nation. This so-called boycott against the Bahamas will never succeed as long as Gods' children rest upon this soil. I don't think that these persons have an idea who they are facing and their efforts are futile. Though they might be right in some way as to the attitudes of some Bahamians I feel that this is no grounds for such actions as to which they are now taking against an entire nation. The majority of Bahamians are warm and caring people who in most cases treat foreigners like family. This is Fact! This has led me to believe that such a campaign against our nation is one that is based upon hate alone. I feel that these people think that because we are so few in size that they can destroy us easily. THEY ARE WRONG! 1 Corinthians 1:27 "God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things that are mighty" Any smart American or other foreigner knows that every nation has their bad apples and to condemn an entire country because of the acts of a few doesn't make any sense at all. If that were the case then every country in this world would have been boycotted. I see our nation prospering tremendously in the near future in every industry and not just Tourism. The world is moving slowly out of this recession and more people are discovering our islands. I feel that we can look forward to even greater things next year because God is still with us. As long as there are praying Christians in the Bahamas we have notting to fear from anyone. swpete 11-25-03, - 10:34 PM I would like to give you an American perspective, I was the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Company that owned the Xandu Beach and Marine Resort in Freeport, and Club Land'Or in Paradise Island. So I do know much about your Country and its Tourism. In my era the same political party that is in power today was the rule of law, and it was not easy to do business because of hard to deal with laws. I did however increase Tourism by 86% in Grand Bahama Island, Do you remember the 5 day 4 night Cruise with accomadations in the Bahamas in the middle 80's, I did that. I am retired now and have lived on my Sailing Yacht Maerdym in the Florida Keys for the last 16 years. Once a year I would make my 6 week trip to the Bahama's, spend thousands of dollars in your country alone with several other Yachts I traveled with. Not this year! We do not like being singled out by your country to be over taxed. The Marinas in the Keys are full already, reservations have trippled from last year. Most boaters are going to the Keys then on to Cuba and Mexico. Earlier this year I was in Central Florida and the buzz was in the Marinas about Boycotting the Bahama's. I think the polital party in power has done this to punish the family Islands, after all Nassau does not rely on Boaters for its income does it? girl, it is time for you to wake up. What do you think the Cayman Islands, Aruba, BVI's Barbados and all the other beautiful islands in the Carribean have to offer: Sun, Sea and Beaches. Ostrom 12-01-03, - 09:41 PM its not going to affect me whether a boater comes or doesnt, i dont care a bit. how are you being singled out though, its the same for everyone no matter where they are from. its like saying we are singled out by having to spend hours and days to get a police record and visa to travel to the US, where we end up spending thousands of $$ a year, right from home as well; almost everything we buy is imported from or through the US. But like you said there are other places to go by boat besides the bahamas, so dont let us stop you. Obviously people that own that boycott site have way too much time on thier hands, and are too use to getting things for free or cheap. It costs a lot for us to live here also by the way. Rory you are most ignorant to the biggest industry in the Bahamas, people like you are dragging this country down on its knees. Absolutly STUPID Ostrom Ostrom 12-18-03, - 10:17 AM WHATEVER! i dont care about boaters, and i dont care about what you say. full stop. Well Rory i guess you dont care about the tourist industry i general either then? So what is left for The Bahamas to make some business of, in your eyes? Ostrom |
