Unfortunately this is nothing new. Lots of Bahamians wanna "go foreign" thinking its so much easier to live in the U.S. Then they go over there and get slapped in the face with reality and wind up living in sqaulor, or below the standard they did at home, or living a life of crime to get some extra cash.

I know someone who is in prison in Florida and he said there were so many Bahamians and dudes he knew in prison over there he felt like he was home.

Das fa damn sure, we always get catch up in the lights and "city that neva sleep" syndrome. Trust me when them taxes really start to hit ya it don't be as merry at all. Lol! And there are more Bahamians in the US than we would admit to, the problem is you only know them when they are in trouble or having some Junkanoo rush out abroad. That's when they be fightin to prove they Bahamians. Ever see someone loose their dialect from their native country and trying hard to find it cause they been faking with a US accent for so long........ brutal!

Why don't you keep your selfhating foolish comments about Bahamian people to yourself. By the way this is coming from a Bahamian, who pays his taxes to live in the greatest city in the world that never sleeps, understands that Bahamian migration is entrenched in our culture, been in trouble, someone who rushes abraod not to prove I'm bahamian but cuz of the riddim baby the riddim, and one day I just lost my dialect luckily for me when the plane lands at NIA the island boy just naturally come out. Sounds like you have some issues to clear up.

Well what Bahamians need to remember is that Osama made it harder for every common average foreigner trying to get somewhere to beat the system and work without papers - so if you going to try to make it abroad you better know how you are going!

I know too many examples of Bahamians in Florida alone who are really struggling, but dont want to come back home for one reason or another. And then ofcourse there are those of us who have gone over there and overstayed our time and wont come back home cuz U.S. Immigration wont let us back in their country...

Stupid fools. Pray tell why the hell these people doing all this trouble in the US? As if the 2 or 4 idiots that try to pass drugs through US security these days isn't enough to deal with!

Boy at one point people were getting arrested every month at the harbour here trying to export drugs. It was becoming like a saga of arrests..I guess the possibility of making that extra cash is more powerful an option than getting arrested.

I had a summer job at Harbor control near to the Discovery Cruise Lines terminal when these smuggler were being caught. Watching the cops run from the on site station (all of this before that area was demolished after the hurricanes). Sone tried to travel in the heat of summer in a thick black, padded winter jacket...and expected NOT to get caught.

Yup. And then the others lose their composure when the drug sniffer dogs come around. Thing is these people are just mules for the drug dealers - its not like they are hardened criminals..so they wont be able to hold their composure under the threat of getting caught..and so it goes..
