Today Justice Lyons said that if it is proven that he misled the government and the Bahamian people, he is willing to resign. As far as he is concerned, the Attorney General is supposed to PROTECT the judiciary.

He is feels most aggrieved that his reputation and integrity is now in question, given the fact that the AG has denied ALL of his assertions.

So we have a showdown? Why don't we just give the two guns and count to three. Wow...so much drama goes on in this government.

Well its not because she denied the facts of his rulings..its because she said the Judge mislead the Bahamian people in his rulings - which is a serious assertion for someone in Allyson's position to make and is an assertion that should appropriately be made in the appeal she said she would file but never did, rather in parliament.

Ofcourse Allyson knows this. But instead of going to the courts to do what she said she would which is to appeal his two first rulings, she decided to go instead to the court of public opinion to claim that the Bahamas has a judge sitting on its bench who is guilty of dereliction of duty (by intentionally misleading in a ruling). She knows that such a thing puts his job in jeopardy both in the Bahamas and anywhere else he might seek to practice.

She also knows that the recourse for what she claims was his being misleading is the Court of Appeal, not in parliament.

As AG, she is the leader of the Bar and the person responsible in the Parliament for representing the Judiciary, so for the lawyers on BI or those sufficiently schooled in law, its less than arguable Allyson should not have done what she did. Its a point the Bar Association is also likely to stress later today or tomorrow.

Essentially she has used her position to cause professional threat or harm to a Judge - which is tantamount to the government attempting to intimidate the judiciary.

This is not a political PLP/FNM issue to me, but rather one that has to do with the fundamentals of democracy.

If a ruling against the government is made, the government's recourse is to file an appeal of the ruling and await the appelate court's decision and potentially the privy council's ruling if it gets that high up.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

She was on Jones' program on Sunday and she seemed to satisfy Wendall regarding all points he raised. He was pretty rough on her but she seemed to provide appropriate answers to every point he raised. She said she did not attack the judge but that she (and The Government) felt that he was wrong in his ruling.

When asked about The Lead prosecutor she seemed to skirt the question of recrimination but said she would not allow anyone to distract her in her service of The Bahamian people. She also said, when asked, that she could work with anybody.

She declined to answer many question citing that the matters were before the courts. She also accused "others, who we can all tell who they are" of attempting to try the case in the court of public opinion.

I thought she did well considering how hard Wendall was on her. He also asked her about being Prime Minister, drawing a parallel to France's first female President. She referenced Cynthia Pratt's being Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister when Perry Christie was ill. She praised the service of Cynthia Pratt and said that it indicated The Bahamas' willingness to accept a female Prime Minister. I don't recall if she ever indicated a desire to become PM.

I feel like i'm watching a good game of tennis. One player has clearly outwit the other one who answered back kind of weakly. The server has struck back viciously and is waiting for the next blow. As you can tell, i'm no authority on tennis but, this is a hot one.

Since Lyons made his assertions, the AG has not answered a straight question yet. On every talk show that she appeared on she has blamed the whole issue on it being the 'silly season' and that she will not be distracted from her work for the Bahamian people.

What does Justice Lyons have to do with it being the 'silly season'? Is the AG suggesting that the opposition put him up to this? Is she suggesting that Cheryl Grant Bethell whose late husband Peter Bethell was a PLP MP is participating in the 'silly season? Come on man, what is she trying to say?

Thank you for the correction Nationbuilder, the story had only just come on Love 97fm news and I thought it might of been of interest to some on the board.

Like you I don't see why this issue has become political. I just found it refreshing to see some one complain so articulate and public for all to hear and see.

So what is your point... even if you thought she did not do well, you would defend her..., you fail to mention that Wendal Jones told her on many ocassions the she did not answered his questions, she simply said that was his view.... you got to be kidding.

the point is a member of one of the branches of government issues a chellange to her today....., it matter not what Wendal Jones or you think..., this is now beyond your ability to defend the weekness of your PLP. ..

... One more point... tell Alyson what goes around comes around..... remeber hoe she treated Mrs. Thompson....,

All I say is God is a just judge..., Another PLP is now suspect..., soon another..... Great Lawd from Zion.....

No prob. I've read his new ruling he made today (which was what Love97fm was reporting about), and it is once again a solid ruling backed ofcourse once again with the consensus of his other judicial colleagues. The ruling was made at was supposed to be the Grand Bahama Port Authority's first hearing.

As an interesting side note, Allyson's actions are really stirring up the judiciary and the Bar against her. She could be sitting on a powder keg soon. And as for an appeal - Allyson does not actually want to appeal Lyons' rulings two weeks ago, and is said to be upset that Cabinet released a statement saying it would.

The ruling essentially exposed what was known within the relevant circles - Allyson didnt appeal because she wanted to go for the political jugular and slam the judge in public because she knows that once the case is before the courts - she can no longer villify him and try to make him a "PLP boogeyman".

The government needs to get past this martyr complex. No government does everything right and just. So when you do wrong, take your licks and correct the problem instead of trying to make people think that every criticism is part of some grand conspiracy.

Now I did not listen to the whole show so I cant say if she was good or bad. In fact I was only lucky enough to catch the last few minutes of it on the drive home. And I remembered that one part of the conversation.

I'm going to try that next time!! :bouncy: :D
