I believe those avenues will be alot more effective to getting the word out there. Well we have spoken to a reporter at the nassau guardian where she was given all the hard copy facts and recordings, she stated that she would be unable to write anything until she confirm it with the committe members, i have emailed joy fm, and minister of youth about this matter. Other avenues are being forwarded also. Cindy Thompson 12-02-06, - 12:54 AM Happy is the man that feareth away; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief It is with great pride and assuredness that I Shenique Whymns, Miss Teen Bahamas 2003, Theodore Ellyett’s Miss Teen Bahamas World 2006, American Amateur Model of The Year 2002, Former Miss Teen Caribbean 2006, Debutante of the Year 2005 and moreover indeed the niece of the legendary Cindy Thompson and cousin of D’Vanya Thompson. My purpose is to inspire all of you to seek accurate and unbiased opinion of what it takes to win a competition and the value of constructive youth programs such as this in question. I am amazed at how much anger, frustration, and controversy is vented at the end of the final production. I can attest to my own MTB experience, which had it own share of issues. In particular I am referencing my participation in the program as niece of the deceased founder. I would like to make you publicly aware of the discussion of whether or not I would be allowed to even participate in the program that year between myself, the contestants, their parents, and the committee in order to establish clarity of the fairness of the competition. For you that do not understand the judging system of the MTB program, I have you know that in short all contestants scores are cumulative, inclusive of the contestants’ judges interview which is witnessed by only the judges and contestants [i.e. there is no views opinion at this most important aspect of competition]. Also to make the playing ground even more fair, the highest and lowest scores of each contestant is disguarded. For this reason, the Miss Teen Bahamas program can continue to deem its integrity. Speaking as a former contestant I can say that my reason of first entering the pageant was for the impactful experience. The Bahmahost program especially introduced for the MTB contestants, the beauty tips and gifts from John Bull and the special appearances we made on various occasions. There are many life experiences that ought to positively impact a person and an opportunity for personal growth should be highly considered as one of them. To this years’ contestants you all should take all that you’ve done and learnt as a means of enhancing who you are as a young woman. I know that upon speaking to you all personally I leant a positive word of advice, to enjoy this moment in time and that if a crown, banner, and title is what you need to make you call yourself a queen then you are cutting yourself short. You should have considered yourself a queen before u even entered. But speaking as a multi-title older both nationally and internationally it is imperative that you, proposed contestants, parents and spectators, find out about the pageant, program and or organization you wish to affiliate yourself with before you enter. You must know that no organization is without flaws, trust me on this, but yet and still the experience is what you make of it…….so live and let live, and always keep in mind that the judges’ decision is final. ItsGoingDown 12-02-06, - 07:06 AM EVIL flourishes:angel: when GOOD:angel: people do NOTHING. We are really not interested in what Titles you hold. We are dealing with the unfairness and biasness of this particular pageant. I agree that you should research the pageant before you enter and with the correct info before hand know young lady would enter this one unless ofcourse you gather your family members. missteensup 12-03-06, - 02:02 AM WOW "ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY" I find it so funny that when a question is ask what would u change about the program and competition? or How would u make the next one better? NO ONE RESPOND TO THIS REPLY. I HAVE ASKED THIS TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. JUST SILENCE!! YET Ms. Whyms, once again validates the point contestants have been stating, OUT OF FAIRNESS no family member, or relative should be allowed to compete. Ms. Whyms u had a support base when u entered the program and competition and won. I am assured you were told u will do great!! (:shhh: ) The judging system was clarified for everyone that night of presentation (in which you were not present), for those of may have not got the just of the system the contestant scores cards where given to them ( the few who actually got all of their scores) so that even made it clearer about the system. The MISSION OF THE PROGRAM IS FLAWED, THE COMMITTE MEMEBERS OF THE PROGRAM IS FLAWED. MY DEAR UNBIASNESS AND FAIRNESS WAS & IS GONE IN THIS YEARS PROGRAM. You, were compensated for your participation you were the WINNER. CASE CLOSED. Why is it that the director is so quiet, is she afraid that she will definetely :footmouth like she always seem to do when she speaks. It is very distrubing that she would allow a child try to take the brunt of the blows. First it was the tallymaster Wilson , then Ms Jones now D'Vanya. This is sad, so sad!!! And u think that young girls would be interested in this program. I DON'T THINK SO!! YES Ms Whyms you must do your research before entering any competition, well u didn't have to do that for this competition since it was a family affair. But for all the other yound bahamian women, the researched is done for you. "Miss Teen Bahamas Must BE stopped" http://www.bahamasissues.com/showthread.php?t=5056 all facts no fiction. OVER 1,400 VIEWED THIS.:hammer: DEAL I guess Ms. Sands will wait until people are in front of her Bentley Avenue Store protesting to face the issues. GOOD LUCK WITH DAT!! I have no more to say to you... BUH bye!! is this how you deal with conflict? these girls(notice I didnt say women) want an answer from you and that's your best that you can give them...you must have a bias. Cindy Thompson 12-03-06, - 12:38 PM Committe members will be promt to all functions information givin to contestants will be accurate mr wilson will continue to be tally master using the excell spreadsheet while there is a second tallyer using a calculater to assure the scores are tallied correctly judging sheets will be givin to contestants right after the compition to avoid acusations of scores being tampered with. Yodephy students will continue to be allowed to enter miss teen bahamas becouse none of the committe members are involved with the yodephy modeling agency. Judges have always bin informed on what it is they should be looking for in contestants. If judges are found to be affiliated with any contestant in any way will not be allowed to judge. family members of founder and or committi will no longer be allowed to enter (wich is uncalled for becouse no1 has ever cheat in the compition). All prizes for the queen will be givin to her at the presentation party the night after the compition. Compition will be fair as always. de redhead 12-03-06, - 12:39 PM is this how you deal with conflict? these girls(notice I didnt say women) want an answer from you and that's your best that you can give them...you must have a bias. I know that you must know how children can be. They can be cruel and overly dramatic for no good reason. I can only imagine how badly the winner must feel. How would it make you feel if you worked hard to win a competition and after your hard work paid off you were called a cheater. And remember she is a girl too. I read an article in The Guardian and the parents of some of these girls are basically calling this girl a cheater. They should know better. I don't blame these girls they don't know any better and judging by the behaviour of their parents it is no surprise to me that they are sore losers but their parents should know better. THE NASSAU GUARDIAN ARTICLE "TEEN BEAUTY PAGAENT ENDS IN CONTROVERSY AGAIN" The credibility of the 14-year-old Ms Teen Bahamas pageant is being questioned by a group of angry parents who have since launched their own investigation into what they are calling the questionable conduct of the pageant's committee members during the entire process. According to Mrs Crysle Bastian, a spokesperson for the group and the mother of one of the contestants, the competition, which concluded on May 20 at the Rainforest Theatre in the Wyndham Nassau Resort, has left many of the relatives and contestants feeling gypped. (CORRECTION NOVEMBER 20TH, BREEZES SUPERCLUB) Mrs Bastian as well as four other mothers maintain that they have good reason to believe that the eventual winner of the competition had been decided long before the competition ended. In addition to this, the parents also claimed that the many inconsistencies which the committee members have failed to adequately explain in addition to their disrespectful attitude are what has ultimately fueled their wrath. "Organization, time management and communication skills were not up to par for a program of 14 years," said one of the parents. "Contestants were advised differently at every meeting or rehearsal and it seemed as if judges were not advised as to what to look for when judging events," she said. Mrs Bastian claimed that during a meeting held after the competition, the pageant's coordinator, Ms Richa Sands insulted them by making the comment that no one had held a gun to their heads to put their daughters into the competition. Mrs Bastian said that this is an indication of the nonchalant attitude that they have experienced from the committee. The women claimed that after demanding copies of the tally sheets, they found several inconsistencies including signatures of two unknown judges and the forged signature of another as well as missing scores for certain contestants in various categories. The mothers also questioned the legitimacy of the committee after claiming that there appeared to be too many familial ties within the group. She said this list included the tally master Larry Wilson, who is the organizer's uncle and who has been tally master of the pageant for 14 years. "The fact that he has been the tally master for so long and the organizer's uncle has opened him up to being manipulated," Bastian stated. The parents said that during the meeting when asked to clarify the exact scores he had tallied, Mr Wilson indicated that he had had the scores in his possession for two weeks prior to the night of the competition. They said that this was unprofessional and that the scores should have been sealed as anyone may have had access to them and changed them at anytime. Ms Richa Sands, the pageant's organizer, said that all of the claims of the mothers were unfounded and that the only family member she had on the commitee was her sister, Sandra Ford. She said that the committee had done its best to clarify all the concerns of the parents including an independent auditing of the scores by one parent during the meeting. "At the end of the day there can only be one winner of any competition," she said. |
