An upsurge in the number of drug users in the country is leading to an increase in the number of adolescents infected with HIV, according to Director of the HIV/AIDS Programme, Nurse RosaMae Bain.

During the Love 97 Talk Show "Issues of the Day" Wednesday, Nurse Bain and Dr. Herbert Orlander, a consultant at the Princess Margaret Hospital and AIDS specialist, highlighted a number of cases that account for the increase in HIV cases among that segment of the population.

"When you’re using crack cocaine, you’re having sex for drugs and you’re having sex with drugs," Nurse Bain said. (http://www.jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=10704)

Dr. Orlander said he has noticed an increase in men having sex with women during menstruation.
1. did he hand out a survey or something or does he ask that during general conversation?
2. i'm really hoping that it's in connection to the rise in drug use, cause if a sober man wants to do that then...wow

Serious ting. The article is very interesting indeed though.

"Nine-year-old girls are getting pregnant and 10 year olds are having babies, so kids need to understand the importance of HIV while they are still in primary school," she said.

Nurse Bain said people should also be careful at salons and barbers. She advised patrons to ensure that stylists properly sterilize styling tools for each customer.

"You should be the one to ensure that every instrument that they use: the combs, brushes and razors, is sterile. They should have an assortment of tools so that as one is being sterilized the other one is in use," she said.

:jawdroop: interesting indeed

man that's the same reason why i prefer to cut my own hair...I wonder if barbers truly believe that spraying alcohol on the customer afterwards is enough or is it just laziness.

That sterilization thing is a serious issue in barbershops, nail and foot salons. I am certain that if a thorough investigation was done, many establishments would be found wanting in this area.

Im not even certain if there are laws on the books governing such a thing, in terms of minimum sterilization requirements for businesses that hold licenses to perform such services. I would think so, but I'm not aware.

not only drugs...but kids born in the late 80's,early 90's to parents filled with AIDS(pre-the vaccine that doesnt allow children to be born with the illness) these kids are angry, confused and bitter...my mommy one friend has a 15 year old like this...and he is something else...then two other stories I heard...one girl 18 and just had a baby...then another young girl on her third child(different baby daddy all of them)...the daddy is a police offficer and till this day I dont think he know his "gal got it"...

....and lets not disregard the young girls and boys being preyed on and ravished and destroyed by older men...kids still not knowing they have it and in their youthful "innocence" playing house and doctor...man watch your kids...be careful...watch yourseld...I going for my AIDS test tommorrow just to practice what I preach...ill tell yinna the results though I already know what it is...;)

I have a question for the older members of the forum.

Just a quick side bar, why is it that nowadays the older folks view most of todays youth as sluts and the whole nine yards, when back in the day it was no big deal to see a mother with 13 children before the age of 40 and all with different men may I add!

What has suddenly change in there minds, besides the rampid spread of STD's ? Or have they forgotten the sins of there time is the same of the present generation?

:bouncy: Also I have older friends that admit that as they get older, there lust grows stronger, and regard for current or forming a relationship slims in the importance meter! Have any of you guys find this to be true?

well all my grammy(s) children are from their husbands...so count them out.

but what I find what is different today than yesteryear is the sense of dignity and pride in people...back then people wont so foul mouthed and low class...everyone had a sense of Bahamian pride and were dignified.

But I will say that the identity has to be picked up somewhere, and if it all came from TV, why do parents allow there kids to watch shows and follow fashion trends of the sorts! I know none of my boys would walk in my house with there pants half way down there $$A crack, and think that everything is coastal clear. They are of primary school age right now, but I will suspect better of them in their terror teen adolescence, because of what has already been instilled in them! That and the fact that I will kick some major butt if I have to....:hammer:

Also I believe that parents today have gone soft! They to into they extra - marital activities/sweethearting, trying to relive there youth, or trying to be there children best friends! I have no problem with being a friend to my children, but they understand that there's a certain line that outlines our friendship. That's me being your father and guardian!

I remember one certain incident I had with my father when I was a teen terror. .............................................................. BOB MARLEY:shhh: .........................................................:shhh: :shhh: :shhh: So I was like I am going to grow dread locks. At this time I was standing eye to eye level with my father. I was bigger, taller, and more muscular than he was, so I saying that I am a man now. He had asked me to get my hair cut, and a week had gone by with out his orders being followed. Man he walked in the house one day, walked straight up to me in the kitchen, grabbed me by the shirt collar and lifted me high up in the air. With a gleam in his eye he said "cut ya hair"! Man as soon as he let me down, I haul tail to the barber shop and bold my head.

Just the look in his eye said everything he wanted to say. " I am still the main man of this house, no matter how big you get, now do as I say!" The thing that make it so scary is that he had them "Barry White" deep bass type of voice. Big man or not, I never contested my father again. That what is need more nowadays.

My sister in law kids are the best mannered children in the world! They don't miss a "please, thank - you, no mam, yes mam, no sir, yes sir, can I please have or go ever. They so well reformed, because they know if they slip up, they ga get whip up! But they never slip, so it all works out good. That's they type enforcement we need with kids nowadays.
