Vicky 11-03-03, - 09:32 AM What is sin?????? CG 11-03-03, - 10:54 AM What is sin??????Interesting question, for which you may receive few answers. Let me jump in. Page 557 of the New Compact Bible Dictionary. Zondervan Publishing House 1967 edited by T. Alton Bryant says, "Sin - anything in the creature which does not express, or which is contrary to the holy character of the Creator." That is a very broad interpretation of sin! The real question should be what is the holy character of the Creator? That is usual described as, he can’t stand sin! And we are right back where we started. What is sin? Here is a workable definition of sin. It is a falling short of the "mark". And what is the ‘mark?" There is the Ten Commandments. That is a good place to start. There are the laws in Leviticus. A good "mark" if one holds to Orthodox Judaism. Or you could combine them both and have a Super Size "mark." But, but, but, don’t forget there is one more commandment! One that is almost forgotten by many. It is the eleventh commandment. John 13 34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Jesus said that! Now there is a "mark" to aim at. It is something you can take by itself or combine it with the others. Violate not this commandment and everything falls into line. A person who loves does not hate, or steal, or slander, or persecute, or any of the other things we lump under the word, sin. So, can we say that sin is a failure to love? - as Christ commanded "...so you MUST love one another..." Unfortunately we now live in a time where even biblical questions are mocked and laughed at. Dont not allow anyone to sway you from the truth as was told to you. Yes it is true that some would think that everyone should know what sin is. However, what may seem silly to one is life changing for another. Be encouraged. shavornes 11-06-03, - 05:58 PM i knew one day you would show just how your mind is!!!:bye: what is sin....good greif...you not only take us back to the middle ages, but past that!!!! back to the stone ages!!!!:bigmouth: Yk2bad, you never seem to amaze me. This is a good question and deserves a good answer. If you have nothing to contribute, by all means allow others. 1. Sin, some defined it as doing wrong to another person 2. Others(christians) may defined it as not doing the will of God or in another term not following the teaching of Jesus Christ. 3. Indulgence in the wrong things, or the lost of one virtue When do we know if we commit a sin? By what or who standards are we adapting our lives. Whatever the definition we all have standards and we must be very careful not to defile ourselves. My faith is built on the Rock, Jesus Christ. He is my foundation. If or when I sin, it is not me sinning against my body, but against the very One who made and is the head of this temple. The answer is simple, Disobedience Like God says though shall not steal so if you steal you are guilty buy your disobedience. He says that Homosexuality is an abomination or a disgrace to his face/name so when you do what he apposes you have sin in your life. But remember that he is faithful and just and he will forgive you if you confess. CG 11-06-03, - 06:26 PM To the person that responded with the answer on love, that was quite powerful. The problem is love, or the lack of it. You are new to this site. You may not know that I am not a Christian but a Buddhist. However I have great respect for the Christ and his teachings which were not that far removed from the teachings of the Buddha. Love, and respect, is the key! We may differ in our belief but love knows no belief system. Is not exclusive to any belief system It is universal to all. Please check out a posting I did on the thread, Bahamas Religions, a "Connoisseur of Clay Feet."I think you will see there an example of love in action! It is a long story but you will be richer for reading it, as I was for living it!!! Alien 11-07-03, - 02:38 PM Yk2bad, you never seem to amaze me. This is a good question and deserves a good answer.
