Yeah Rory, when I first read the article my mind ran straight on you.

For years I been thinking that technology can do more..like why don't some of these computer companies put together a crime fighting robot..

Say you have one of these things guarding your house / building and a burglar approaches, this robot apparatus jumps out and takes him out, or gives him a good beating!

But what would be the upshot of fixtures like that: Crimes reduced, police and security forces reduced and Rory can make some money distributing and repairing the things.. Right?

That does not have anything to do with cctv.
What is that statement supposed to mean anyways!?!
LOL...
:taped2:

To be honest, I was in London for two months and had more bar fights, or was involved in more "altercations" than all of my years in Nassau.
Go figure!?!

If you want a discussion regarding the benefits of CCTV in the UK, i suggest you pop into my other forum. It has benefits for every country, including our own.

as to the bar fights .. you cant expect CCTV to prevent drunks from fighting .. but it certainly assists in the aprehension and prosecution. Ofcourse if you are in a bar then the quality of the CCTV setup there will depend on how much the Bar's owners spent on the system, in other words its up the Bar's owners to install the CCTV and they may be cheap.

Also London does not represent the rest of England .. it is a whole different world .. Ofcourse I lived there in London myself for 1 year and never got in a fight .. I partied every other night also ... go figure .. ;-) Now at least it was just a fight, if it was a bar in Nassau it normally ends up with a knife, gun, or machete.

I shall only say this, the more technology (availablity speed, etc), the greater the surveillance, the greater the threat of technology being hacked, the greater the effect, blah, blah, blah...i dont buy into this crap, because its nothing but bollocks. Like Y2K says, all the technolgical advances in the world have been ineffective of eliminating crime...CCTV provides wide-scale surveillance but doesnt prevent crimes. Lets not get swung by quick fix rhetoric - solve the root of the problem. Oops, i forgot, thats not an option. That would be tantamount to teaching an african man how to fish...
