Now this is the same reason why people in this country find it hard to take the Christian Council seriously. After the much publicized uproar over the 50cent concert in September(including elephant man and Trina - both of whom have been here numerous times before), this Christian council is now silent. I am referring to the upcoming pre-party for the annual "A Night of Love" concert which features rapper Bonecrusher. This is the same artist that "blessed" us with a performance earlier this year at the annual "Stop The Violence" concert held in Grand Bahama. Quite ironic that a rapper whos lyrics boast of shooting people in the head would be featured on such a show...but hey this is the Bahamas.

Ok, adults should be free to listen to whatever they want - you may say...and I agree, but this pre-party concert that will be held at the Nassau Wyndham is FOR STUDENTS!! Thats right, as the the radio advertisment goes "Students IN UNIFORM with a GPA of 2.5 (c+ whoopie!) should go to the Mall @ Marathon for free transpotation to this show featuring Bonecrusher!!

Christian Council is quiet. No word from Cedric Moss who was so determined to defend the youth of this Nation from the evils of Rap.

Is this case not "high profile" enough to warrant your input?

Check the following link for a recent article on Bonecrusher

Sparkle:

Thanks for the post and information. I have not heard about the event, nor have I heard about Bonecrusher before now.

I think your attack on myself and the Bahamas Christian Council is unfounded because you assume that we are aware (or should be aware) of every event that takes in the country and act as sheriffs. That is not reasonable...I have a life beyond trying to stay on top of irresponsible, selfish adult Bahamians who import sewerage grade entertainers and an indifferent pandering government that faciliates these people with work permits.

My question is why don't you do something about it? Don't you care?

I will try to get more information but you seem to have more information than I do so if you wish to pass it on, please e-mail me at cmoss@kingdom-life.org or call me at 393-8262.

The event is the pre-party for the annual "A Night of Love" concert. This is the 3rd year that this event is being held. It is headlined by Reggae Balladeer Beres Hammond. I don't have "all" the information but I do have the information that is being broadcast on the local Radio Stations (100jamz, More94 and Power 104.5) I am not concerned with the actual show but more with the pre -party

I am not of the opinion that you or the Bahamas Christian Council should be watchdogs, but I am concerned when you (collectively)voice your opinions against one artist (mind you a high profile one) and not against another who stands for the very same thing. While the 50cent show was promoted as an adult show (showtime 10pm, flyers handed out at nightclubs etc)...the Bonecrusher show is being promoted especially for school children (early afternoon showtime, free transportation and the stipulation that students must be in uniform). And it is even more ironic that this artist (along with the equally profane Mystikal) were billed on a show called "Stop The Violence" earlier this summer with no oposition but when non-violent Shaggy (another High Profile artist...hmmm maybe this is the trend) was booked to perform in Grand Bahama this past easter the Cristian Council succeeded in stopping that show.

Now here we have an explicit artist booked on a show marketed directly to the children of this country and everyone is quiet. Now is the time to be heard.

I will be sending a letter to the editors of the Journal, Tribune and the Guardian

ps. What prompted the 50cent/elephant man/trina debate?

Sparkle, you still seem to be missing my point.

When you, I or the Christian Council become aware of these low grade entertainers coming in, decisions have been made and permits generally granted.

Many people weighed in on the One Love Concert. I expressed my concerns in a widely published article, "A Calamitous Compromise." It is posted on this forum under New Issues.

And by the way, I never sought to defend the youth of this nation from the evils of rap. Rap in and of itself is not bad...it is a musical art form that people use and abuse. I sought to defend them from the likes of Trina, 50 Cent and Elephant Man and their moral sewage disguised as entertainment.

I actually like the way above the rim is promoting this event. i think the 2.5 requirement (even though it doesn't go into effect until next year) is a motivational tool that will encourage any number of students to improve so that they can gain access to entertainment for a resonable price.even if it boosts one child then it's good enough for me. people need to let EVERYONE not just adults listen to what they want to, as long as they can acknowledge that what they are listening to is commercial imagery and far from real or worthy to look up to.

(the 2.5 for next year is a nice touch but i'll be out of school before then but like i said, it gives some students another reason (one of many) to strive harder)

The Christian Council is a complete joke and rapidly becoming the nation's laughing stock!

Separation of church and state, adults being prepared to make up their own minds, and the government refusing to bow to this arcane body of collared busy bodies, are all wonderfully democratic ideals now being undertaken.

Bravo Bahamas....we are finally becoming a more mature nation with adults in control who are no longer prepared to yield to this embarrassing pressure group blight on our sense of maturity in making our own decisions.

Christian Council......I laugh you out of existence and good riddance. You are a total anachronism. Back to your pulpits and preach to the dwindling numbers of people who still give you any regard. I do not want my life littered with your silly pronouncements. I have my own strength of conviction in what is right and wrong as a law abiding citizen, I have my own faith which i choose to practice daily and not impose upon others. Please do the same and let those elected attempt to govern unencumbered by your misguided (and often power hungry) pressures.

Tell me something pevans,

How is the Christian Council controling your life?
Give me a good answer.

You would be surprised to know who really wants to take your freedom away from you and not just your freedom but your life also.

Delroy: Whoever said anything about that insidious body controlling my life?? I fail to see why you deliberately twist my words.

For years the Christian Council has taken it upon itself to make determinations about what I shall watch or see or hear...that is an irritation to me. I do not want their unwanted unelected representation: I think that is fair enough.

I am not twisting your words.
This is what you said:

we are finally becoming a more mature nation with adults in control who are no longer prepared to yield to this embarrassing pressure group blight on our sense of maturity in making our own decisions. This is telling me that you feel like these people are controlling.

Controlling who? You?
That is my question.
What has the Christian Council ever prevented you from doing?

You said that "government refusing to bow to this arcane body of collared busy bodies".

I say that might be the reasons for recent events this year.

I am only 23 years old but from I have known myself
This has been the worst year in the history of the Bahamas and it doesn't look like it's getting better.

You said:
" are all wonderfully democratic ideals now being undertaken."

Did you know that democracy came from Christianity?

I am not trying to defend the Christian Council because I can tell you now that they have something stronger backing them.

I feel that if a parent doesn't care about the moral intake of their child that is their choice because God placed them as rulers of their homes. This nation is headed for a rude awakening because we once knew God and are now turning our backs on Him.

We would have mercy upon us if we never knew Him but because we did, we have no excuse.

Delroy: By asking your follow up questions it is obvious that you are looking for an 'angle' in which to justify the existence of an organisation who attempted to make my mind up for me about what i can and cannot see or hear. No, I am not suggesting that the christian council was controlling my life...this is misinterpreting my words.

If you think it is due to the christian council's demise that you blame for disturbing events this year, then who do you blame for disturbing events when the christian council was more influential. You may not remember those frightening early 80's when drugs, crime/violence were at alarming levels and corruption was even more evident than it is today.

Why is it that the Bahamas seems to feel the need for these moral checker bodies while other democratic nations set up proper systems for censorship with secular representations. Other (and more passive, less violent nations) seem to be able to conduct their affairs without the undue influence of their clergy: Scandinavian countries for example. These countries have far less issues to deal with and even though the clergy plays a less vocal role they are not being struck down by God. In fact, they are more peaceful and respectful of others.

Perhaps it is something innate in Bahamians psyche that they feel the need to be subject to the undue influences of unelected bodies, whose members are very often using religion to cloak their own greed and power hungry ambitions.

I remember the 80's and you said it yourself that drugs was the reason for the problems.

I see we have strayed from the point a little. Now back to bonecrusher. I just want to know why The Christian Council made so much noise about 50cent and is making non about Bonecruseher. If you are not consistent, no one will take you seriously.

I have asked before (in the forum on the 50cent concert) why elephant man and trina were now being criticized when they had been performing in the Bahamas for numerous times before. Why is The Christian Council is only interested in high profile artists when lower profiled ones come and perform here more often and spew the same (if not worse GARBAGE)

I was watching Cable 12 the other night when a "special" came on about the "Stop The Violence" concert in Freeport. The opening lyrics for the the 1st artist to come on stage was "I'm going back for my M-16 tonight it wont be so bright..." AT A CONCERT NAMED STOP THE VIOLENCE....HA! this gat to be a joke. The theme for this years "A NIght Of Love" is "Thank GOD for Life" featuring Bonecrusher in a concert for high schoolers that will include the following lyrics (Because it is from his biggest hit)--

"Let a choppa go PLOOOOOWWW to yo melon. Now the the plazma is oozing ouuta yo cerebellum."...

As for the 2.5 GPA requirement...HA!!!! a C+? That is basically saying let everybody in. Because if you are a student and don't have at least a C+ GPA you need to stop wasting your time in school and go and find a job, because obviously school ain't for you. And if you think that people should be bribed into achieving a C+ then you aint much better. If the promoters wanted to make a difference they would give discounts on Grades (eg.) like for every "A'' you get $1 off the ticket price and for every "B" you get $0.50 off

Is it true that Bahamians really live in the darkages and needs a babysitter like the christian counsil to deside for them. I only believed that this happened in Cuba. That is a communist regime, but obviously the bahamas is not far away

And still no word from the Christian Council..... Well I hope that when another "High Profile" artists like 50cent, Trina, Ele, Ludacris or the nastyest one of all "Uncle Luke" (formally of 2LiveCrew) return to town the Christian Council keeps quiet!!
