I heard loud gunshots like from a shotgun 10 feet from my back window, which is only a few feet fron my computer. It echoed through my apartment and made me fall off my chair, which is how loud it was, and how close it was.

Anyway, every minute or so again and again. These loud bangs. Ofcourse I couldnt go and stick my head over the wall to see what it is, incase i got shelled from pellets or even IF if was fireworks, they are dangerous, ANYTHING that loud is NOT safe, especially only yards from appartment windows.

ANYWAY, as it continued I called 911, and they said they will send someone.

What if someone was being shot there, I heard a ladies voice saying "calm down". What if they are dead and nooone has checked on them yet?

And if it was Fireworks they should be given a t icket, or even arrested.

I stood outside for an hour waiting on a squad car, but none ever showed up. What if I was shot ...

This is the 2nd time icalled 911 when something happened, and nobody ever turned up, last time it was a hit and run accident and eventually the criminal had their car towed leaving turmoil behind for us to fix. No Cops showed.

Anyway, obviously we cant depend on 911 to send the police, so who DO we call?????

Give me a bullet proof vest and a gun and Ill deal with things myself! But ofcourse that is against the law in this country, to defend yourself, yourfamily, and your home. You just have to 'live with it'! (if you live that long)

PS> im not blaming the cops, im blaming the 911 system.

I wonder if there are any laws in place in reguards to the use of Fireworks in the Bahamas.

I hear those things going off 2 and 3 in the morning and they sound like explosions (not gunshots).

Rory,

An identical incident happened to me as well, but guess what the people(who was being shoot at) run inside my house. I called 911, they never responded, and didn't even bother to show up. After waiting around for two hours I called them back and told them that it was ok, everthing was fine now. The Officer had the slightest clue about the 911 called that was made earlier!

1. The Police Officers are to slack when it come to the safety of the
community. Have you noticed, that they appear on the scene after
the crime has been committed, (eventhough there was a previous
complaint).
2. There MUST be an upgrading of the now 911 system
3. And for the Officers... I rest my case!:realmad:

I never call 911 or 919 whatever it is. I call the police station nearest to my home. (In my case Wulff Rd.) Their response time is never more that five minutes, often less. They always come. They don’t always catch the bad guys in question but they turn up.

Remember what 911 means. Nine (spelling is different) is German for "no." One, means a person. Example, "One must stop at a stop sign." So, 911 is - no person, (It is said again for emphasis) person, is coming!

especially if they go off 10-20 feet from your window. there was nothing going up in the air though, and no people making any noise, which is why it made me think it was a gunshot, its weird whatever it is, never ever heard fireworks come from my neighbors yard.

I guess everyone is kind of numb to loud noises in the night and that might explain why the cops didn't show up (they proberly get those kinds of calls every minute).

To tell you the truth; these days I can tell the differences between the fake and the real. When I hear the police and the medics then I know.

Yeah that is not cool man.
I would suggest you install some of those night vision camaras you have for sale on the roof or in some trees or something.

Could be someone messing with you.

yeah, that was the only area i dont have a camera, I have 2 looking at the main access areas, as i thought it was safe enough with a wall only 4 feet from mywindow, then the next door neighbors house/apartments there, but after this happening, im puting something up on monday, so next time i can see (and record) without going outside to look.

I do not think the police takes they jobs seriously i think some of them get in that feild for the slackness that goes on. i was sleeping in my house and my neice was watching tv. she woke me say someone just tryed rape her not knowing the guy was still in the house so i woke my brother and he ran the guy down we called the police and they keep saying they on thier way but we never saw them till morning and they wanted to lock my bro up for beating the man of attempted rape. If they aint doing their jobs who suppose to protect us.

Yeah. happens too much. today i Was impressed though, there was a fire at a large building at Cable Beach, we called 919, and still 15 minutes later the Cable Beach Fire Station (police) knew nothing of it when we called them direct! Anyway, after calling them direct, they went over and dealt with it. Seems its alot to do with the 919 system not working properly.

We got to the location and there were 3 fire trucks, a dozen fire men, and a half dozen police!!! Unbelievable! Though it could have been a serious situation if the fire had been worse, and if the firemen had not turned up, as it was a 7 storey building and the fire was on the top floor, so it was that firemen running up the smokey staircase scarey scene. It was also on the cable beach strip next to Hotels. Turned out to be not a serious fire in the end.

But remember, we had to call them direct in the end, as 919 did not work. So a note to all, keep your local fire/police station # on hand. They may not respond sometimes, alot due to 919, but they are the only ones with the tools to do the job.

I don’t believe this?! Why are we covering up for the police? Get caught in a police road block with a blown light and see what they say. ( by the way how quickly do you notice your tail light is blown?) They don’t cover for us, which is supposed to be their jobs. I cant believe what kind of society I’m living in. Let’s see…um a blown tail light …hmmm YEP Shaw signs of a MASS MURDERER yep big police bust!!!! I thought the police were supposed to be our friends?! What, …the country is gonna go broke if the police just tell me to fix my light? They could order me to report back to them to ensure I did fix the light. What about the millions they could make from confiscating properties from drug dealers. The computer systems and other properties of number racquet runners are far more lucrative than my blown light money. Rather than put the effort forth to catch Major mafia type criminals they prefer to prey on honest Bahamians. But then ya know I don’t blame them when Bahamians continue to make excuses for these people who are being paid to protect us! Let me ask y’all is 919 a private number?!!!! I don’t believe this, what 919 system? :sparky: IT’S ALL UNDER THE POLICE!!!!!

I have said this before and I will say it again. Don't bother with 919. Find out which Police Station is closest to your home and/or place of work. Go to the station, get to know the officers. Most of them are decent people. Get the phone numbers of the station, many have more that one number. Keep them by the phone. Call them when there is trouble.

The Station nearest to my home is Wulff Rd. When I call them, they are here so fast it makes ones head spin!

Being a cop is a thankless job. No matter what they do someone does not like it. When the cops help you write a letter of thanks to the Station and the Commissioner of Police. You will get a reputation as a decent person. The police will remember you, in a good way!

As for being caught with a blown tail light. I was. I thanked the cop for pointing it out, he looked surprised. He let me go without a ticket, just a warning - "Get it fixed!" I did. :escape:
