BEC always has some "reason" as to why the bill is high..One time a BEC "official" told me that if my neighbour is using a lot of electricity, it will also make my bill high!! :what: I swear I een tellin no word of lie! And this was in a public meeting! Realistically though, the Family Islands will pay more because of fuel transportation, etc... But as one caller to a radio show said, when you pay BEC you're not paying a light bill, you're paying a mortgage!! I ready for my December bill...if its high I know some BEC employee will tell me "Thats all those Christmas lights you had!" Well I een had no Christmas lights except on my one lonely tree!! But my neighbour had some outside, so.......you know the rest!!

530 is excessive...some folks dont even make that a month... there goes the 30% of your income going to housing related activities...wind mill energy should be looked into...as well as...this is damn near 2007 people...with all the living greener technology...this should be a no brainer...no wonder some people on the out island still dont have lights...cant afford them...and we say were not third world...thing is potcake perry dont pay light bill!

you pay more per unit of current in the FI's. It's always been that way. I think it's 10-15 cents per unit in Nassau and 25-30 cents per unit in the FI's.

It may be higher but I doubt if it is as much as this or as much as he is saying. He needs to locate an old bill from in Nassau and compare the kw/h cost in Nassau to in Andros.

If that still does not account for the difference he needs to look around his apartment and make sure his landlord isn't taking him for a ride.

it could be someone getting swing...(paying all the landlord lights too)or maybe some unsavoury character is cswitching his meter box...I knew some poeple in undergrad...everymonth they switched theirs...and every month paid around 30 bucks for light bill...I had a friend who never paid a litght bill...never...the apartment complex did...lol...and me I moved in one place and never paid a ligth bill for a whole semester till the rent man came knocking on my door telling me to pay or be in darkness...and my godmother was paying her landlord water and I think lights too for 20 years and never knew it until they moved out...I remember one summer me never paying no rent...I got tired of paying rent...lol...and they wouldnt fix my apartment anyway...so I dont feel neccessarily bad!

When I moved in my house I had a neighbour that would run an extension cord over to my house every evening. I cut it with a pair of pliers while it was still plugged in. I was so mad I didn't care about the consequences. I ended up tripping the breaker for my wash house. I don't know (or care) what happened to whatever they had plugged in.

The current in the family islands does cost more. One of my cousins in San Salvador runs the BEC office, she told me the rates for the family islands is all the same.I asked her about it because our bill is so high here in Hopetown,I was sure we were gettin swing.However....the ting the meter checkers do too often,is hand out estimated bills.Instead of reading the meter, they send an estimated bill. That een right.

I do not know what part of nassau you live, but $200 per month is reasonible for power per month.
My problem here in nassau is , ever since BEC install this meter that they claim (meter can be read fron the street, instead of them coming in the yard) my light bill went from $250.00pm to $600.00pm. After questioning the bill at their office, I was told that is the correct bill. I refuse to pay, and they turned light off.
I am working on having a generator install that can supply my entire house, then i will be in a better position to challange them. I may even install 2 generators. Sorry to hear your delema with BEC, but I am glad its not only me having a gripe with them.
Maybe all peps having problem with BEC can unite and fight them as a unit.

it is against bahamian law to install and run a generator if BEC can run a service line to you. you MUST use BEC power. the only exception is if there are no poles to run a line to you, like in a very remote area. also, you can only run a generator when the electricity goes off. when it comes back on you must switch back over to BEC power.
