A BIG FAT NO,NOPE,NADA
Listen any american planning to come to the bahamas is going to do so regardless of the pass port requirement. i dont understand how or why bahamains and all these other caribbean countries dont get this concept, do bahamians and other caribbean folk and mexico think that americans are so pretentous that they will NEVER leave the united states becuase they need a passport?

I tend to agree, Americans, the ones that want to leave the US, do tend to do the right thing which in this case is to get a passport!!! I know a persn whom work in the MOT office in the states and Americans call asking what are the requirements to travel to The Bahamas, they are surprised that a passport is not needed but they ARE prepared to get one if needed. They need passports to travel to Europe and they still going, what stopping them now.

I don't think I quite understand you. Are you saying that americans, will vist the country anyways even if they broke the new law to do so?
Clarify for me!

NO that is not what i am saying. i am saying that Americans wanting to leave the country will simply go down to the post office and get their passport. as long as they have their birth certificate there would be no problem.

the same way u need a passport to leave and enter the bahamas and you went and got a passport to leave and enter the passport. the same way an american will do the same.

I think they should have let this new passport rule sink in for awhile before so quickly jumping to this other initiative. Americans like to travel and the majority will probably have no problem with getting a passport. I think we have pandered to quickly to the Americans. We havent even waited for them to ask how high to jump.

Add to that the fact that 85% to 90% of American tourists to The Bahamas currently are passport holders, then the number will be further reduced to between 25,000 and 75,000. Multiply that by the ...

Posthumously, he raises an interesting question:

Cruise passenger intineraries also go to other countries who don't have the same (former) documentation requirements of the Bahamas, so most cruise pax have a passport - they don't get reimbursed by a hotel passport plan. They still have another 11 months of waiver (sorry Obie) policy anyway.

Anyone notice that the reimbursement plan is already 2 months into it's period? The deadline is fast approaching for this plan, so in reality the gov't will spend much less than most of the numbers posted here.
