I don't understand what the problem is. This parent is up in arms about the state of King's College facilities and has called on the Min. of Ed. to intervene. I agree that the MoE, which has oversight of all schools in the country, should make sure that school facilities are fit, proper, and conducive to learning.

However, for a pvt school, an even better guarantor of standards is the parents themselves. Before enrolling your child, check out the facilities and the school's academic performance (BGCSE rankings) and if not up to par, don't enrol your child. If enrolled and things change for the worse, move your child. It's a PRIVATE school, they have a choice. What's the friggin problem? As a private school, if they have no students they cannot operate!

As I'm outside the country, I rely on newspaper reports etc, hence I may be erroneous in my assessment of the situation. So, somebody, anybody, please feel free to shed light on the events surrounding this story.

Thanks

I am not aware of any more details than those in the actual article, but when I read it my reaction was basically the same as yours. I guess it is a sign of the times we are living in though. Instead of taking the time to enroll their child in an institution which meets their standards they enroll their child in a subpar institution and then demand that someone come along and make it meet their standards. I guess I should find the cheapest private school in The Bahamas to send my child to and then demend that The Government come along and force the owners to make it comparable to St. Andrews or Lyford Cay.:gi:

How the hell did this get about The PLP?

Idiots are not the target audience for my posts. It is becoming more apparent every day that they do not understand plain English.

All these parents have to do is remove their child from that school, and place them in another one. There are many private institutions of learning on this island, choose another one. I dont think the MOE should expend any energy on this. They are not responsible for the maintenance of the shcool's infrastructure. The school should have a board of directors responsible for allocating a portion of the funds from tutition fees for that purpose. Enough MOE schools are falling apart at the seams as it is. That is where there focus should be. This sounds to me like poor money management.

The thing is, the Govt. allready gives grants to private schools. So, they are allready receiving money. I went to Kingsway not to long ago, and I dont see this dis-repair she speaks of.

Must be an FNM in a PLp school. That's how they go ya know!!
