View Full Version : sounds alot like the old PLP! Rory 05-19-05, - 12:18 AM splash has an attention span issue and probably never even "read" the punch ... bahmaboy 05-19-05, - 01:53 AM i wasnt goin to respond again to this thread but here goes: even though this is not america a person who has been truely wronged by the punch has legal remedies on the cuases of action of slander and libel in this country. everytime someone says "i ga sue the punch, it aint true." it is only empty threats. after all Leslie Miller ( I think thats his name, the MP whose son was killed and then the punch published a story about him) swore up and down he will sue the punch and hasnt till this day. forget naming me a sucessful defamation suit against the punch, can you name me one retraction printed by the punch. all i could say is i hope the punch gets a website soon and i hope they change their slogan to The Punch: WE TELL IT LIKE IT IS. Rory 05-19-05, - 02:04 AM I doubt anyone can sue anyone in the Bahamas, has it ever happened, just curious? I tried to get the Tribune to retract a story a few years ago, which was incorrect, at least in the details of what happened, well that was a waste of time. The reporter conveniently went on vacation for a few weeks! I have to agree though the way the Punch produce their stories is kind of funny and may cause people to laugh, but they are in the most part true, and mostly the same stories being published in the other newspapers. Page 3 is the biggest joke though  RockWell 05-19-05, - 10:35 AM i wasnt goin to respond again to this thread but here goes: even though this is not america a person who has been truely wronged by the punch has legal remedies on the cuases of action of slander and libel in this country. everytime someone says "i ga sue the punch, it aint true." it is only empty threats. after all Leslie Miller ( I think thats his name, the MP whose son was killed and then the punch published a story about him) swore up and down he will sue the punch and hasnt till this day. forget naming me a sucessful defamation suit against the punch, can you name me one retraction printed by the punch. all i could say is i hope the punch gets a website soon and i hope they change their slogan to The Punch: WE TELL IT LIKE IT IS. The punch gave a halfhearted retraction to fred mitchell late last year after being threatened with a lawsuit & probably only because they know fred would have gone through with. ps the punch thrives on the passiveness of Bahamians. No, that's not correct. There were other reasons...It's called "connections" The Punch doesn't back down or take advantage of "passiveness". You're making incorrect assumptions. Great Demos 05-19-05, - 05:53 PM You have been a victim of the hype created by those who have been exposed in the pages of The Punch. Reality check: The Punch helpd the FNM get into office and helped the PLP "get back into office". It's not a "political" paper. Step out of the fracas of PLP and FNM finger pointing, open your eyes and look at the issues from a politically neutral standpoint. Today's politicians have been able to control this country through "party politics" for far too long. Don't mind the party bashing that our leaders do to each other; at the end of the day all of them are friends, while their constituents and party-faithfuls fight and quarrel with each other. This is just GREAT! Pure wisdom! A big part of my belief ever since the FNM lost power in 2002! I think one of the big problems with many Bahamians is that they become die-hard party members, so loyal to a political party to the extent that they become blind to the party's shortcomings -- their party can do no wrong! Sir Winston Churchill spoke about this great weakness of party politics, whereby some become so blinded by party loyalty they cannot think logically or reasonably anymore! How sad! bahmaboy 05-19-05, - 06:36 PM to marichal i guess i was WRONG to great demos: u are so right  this is what is wrong with bahamian politics i would say 95% of bahamians are a die hard party member regardless, this is ignorant and wrong. a citizen must look at politics from a reasonable man's standpoint becuase as i said these party's and politicians couldnt give a flip about us it is all about money and power. u walk up to a person between the ages of 17(will be able to vote next time around)-23 and ask them who they voting for next election and why. dont be surprised to hear "becuase my family is (insert party)" SO SAD Alien 05-19-05, - 08:05 PM Well in any case the punch is shock news..and they lie on many occasions!! if you support a liar, "lies kill too yorick" you may as well support jeffery dhamer!!! and the kkk and the holocaust and any other vile viscious lying propaganda spreading institution!! my 2 cents! RockWell 05-19-05, - 10:29 PM No, that's not correct.
