to marichal i guess i was WRONG

to great demos: u are so right  this is what is wrong with bahamian politics i would say 95% of bahamians are a die hard party member regardless, this is ignorant and wrong. a citizen must look at politics from a reasonable man's standpoint becuase as i said these party's and politicians couldnt give a flip about us it is all about money and power. u walk up to a person between the ages of 17(will be able to vote next time around)-23 and ask them who they voting for next election and why. dont be surprised to hear "becuase my family is (insert party)" SO SAD

I no longer know of any die hard anything in the Bahamas...I am sure we all have preferences...nevertheless, when things sound shaddy, Bahamians jump ship and swim to the shores until another savior passes.

Well this surprises me, ie, that there are no more die hard plp's and fnm's! I know years ago when I used to shoot the breeze with the boys, I used to have to be extremely careful whom I discuss politics with, 'cause most of them could not understand where I was coming from.

They just couldn't get it when I would try to be objective and criticize both parties when in my opinion they deserved criticism and likewise praise them when they deserved praise. They were like "Well who or what on earth are you, what party you for, man!?" And sometimes they would get extremely angry with me!

But if canewry is right, all that has probably changed. For sure I don't engage in discussing politics in person with anyone unless I know them well.
And after observing Bahamian politics for 50 odd years, I sure don't have any preferences -- I am wiser now.

So Jumping ship and looking for another so-called saviour definitely would NOT apply to me!!!

The Old Plp loved to play the race card this was mastered by Sir ping ...now I
see the speakers on the PLP convention are now trying to use this same old trick :voodoo: to play with the minds of the Bahamian people ...all this time Brent was in the house, now they are trying to accuse him of being a UBP....

junkanoo shuffles and hot air won't get the job done:dancer:

Yeah, you are right. But you notice how slick they are. They kinda drowning the whole convention in religion, being very churchy. I think they realise plenty Bahamians getting tired of this race card foolishness, but they know that most of us love the church!

Jack may be ugly, but he een no fool! [dem PLPs, I talkin bout]

So they are playing to the emotions. The race card scares people and the churchiness helps brainwash the sheep that can't think for themselves. Good tactical move, really.

We need televised debates, candidate to candidate, like they do in the US. Let them have to speak in facts in a one on one style, where their statements are checked for accuracy. A independant moderator (or someone who has a grudge against both parties equally!) asks the same questions to both candidates. No chanting, no propaganda, no invoking the word of God, no hype. Policies, positions and promises made during the debates would be considered official representation of the party and something that the citizens can expect to be implemented should the party win. Simple!

I really wish we can rise to that level of political maturity:cheers:

...And the church said, "AMEN!".....EXCELLENT point. The last "debates" they had were jokey as hell. At the end you were still trying to figure them out.

So how many government leaders subscribe to this website? Show yourselves! There's a heck of a lot of good discussions here as well as good advice for those that need to woo the constituancy. So, if you're in a leadership position in either the PLP or the FNM, tell us you're listening to what we are saying!

Hey, we're all on this site, posting back and forth for free anyway. I just wonder if we're talkin' into the vacuum. Does the gov't know this site exists? Do they pay attention to what is said? Does it help them understand how they are being percieved? I don't want to debate them or anything, but it would be interesting to see which political figures look outside their own consultants and ivory towers sometime.

While I like to think that my posts are meaningful in some way, it only is a contribution to the larger conversation over the broader spectrum. Every one of us (save a few wierdos) has made very, very valid points on a number of topics. The gov't should pay Delroy the consultant's fee for running an independent electronic focus group, thinktank, and polling station!

You never know. Dr. Deveaux wrote something on it, so the chance that some of them look at this is there. At the very least though, be assured that your comments are being digested by a potential future generation of Bahamian leaders. As for me, if I can just help anyone better understand their country (and the world) and also be assissted to the do the same, I'm just a Kalik and cracked-conch snack away for an awesome day!
