THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES. We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book." We now live in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%). Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing.

They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU, a nd they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives them "Status" or that they have achieved their Dream. They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities.

With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success.

However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid The Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of their goal ..

Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community. They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not to the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE (TEAM).

They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own, as a matter of fact, most of those Buppies are but one or two pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our rooms. Yes, we will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are "helping" their communities by paying dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels. By the way, don't worry about any of them reading this letter, remember, 'THEY DON'T READ!!!!

Cannot agree with that! Most of the Black people I know are intense readers! Look at the folks on this site! Also the writer mentions "Black Bookstores." If there was no demand for these books, by Black People, there would be no such books stores - they would go broke!

As for the other two - greed and selfishness. These are hardly the exclusive domain of Black people. They are the disease of this whole world.

I would like to know in what context this article was written

Gee its funny you posted this. We had this to anylize in the 10th grade back at catholic high. I believe it was a newspaper artical. We were kind of split, some saw it stereotypical, but my group actually agreed when you look at the trends. Bill Cosby and co. tried to break the same news to them but unfortunately they are in denial.

I found this at the Tom Joyner and Joe Madison sites:

"BLACK PEOPLE, PLEASE, READ & HEED. POIGNANT.

The sad thing about this article is that the essence of it is true. The truth hurts. I just hope this sets more Black people in motion towards making real progress. Chris Rock, a Black comedian, even joked that Blacks don't read.

Help prove them wrong! Read and pass on.

Please Note:

For those of you who heard it, this is the article Dee Lee was reading this morning on a New York radio station. For those of you who didn't hear it, this is very deep. This is a heavy piece and a Caucasian wrote it.

interesting piece, but a lot of generalizations that could apply to many folks of a certain socioeconomic factor ... dubois' reference to a talented one-tenth comes to mind. but if any community sees itself in this commentary, the words have ideally made an impact.

LOL....
White people expect less and are angry, that they still need us. No matter how hard they try, they wouldn't be sh1t without us.

They do this every now and then, to try to take your mind off of the task at hand. But, the reality is black people are the worse thing to themselves than anything. We damage ourselves alot more than anything else.

Hey! When I read this I wantta cuss fer days! But I een wantta cuss fer what was said...but fer "how he know we so good"? Dang...he been lookin through ma window a?

This een come from no white man...they een know us that well! This is pure "negaz" town perception...a perception that comes from living "over the hill" style! And trust me...the lil bit er white who live amoung us een ger write that kindda stuff cos they like that too! Check out the "you might be a redneck series"...variation on the same theme...just different color!

It een come from being black or former slaves...that's poor folks mentality...even if they come into some money..."negaz" town mentality still! They could be green as Moses after Mr Johnson's cow "buck" him down in the wild spinach bush outside they outside toilet!

This hit right between the eyes because it's about "one-tenth" that are likely to be ultruistic...patriotic and down fer the juice amoung any race...fer nothin! We see this even in this little country of ours! Why do you think political parties and just about everybody are either "grining" or just about to "grin" someone! Een just about color here...cos plenty them "grinners" and "grinnees" are white too! But in this country...they mostly black...I een gatta lie nah!

Just ask the folks in Bosine Town who bought they lots and een own them nah...cos of some bunch er "black" crooks in high places!

I swear that this and the crime commission's report on the social bahamas in the 90s are variations of a same theme as well!

This piece don't make me hang ma head in shame nah...cos most er we like that fer sure! That een tellin me nothin I een see amoungst ma folks dem everyday...white and black! Hell Bill Cosby done told them that long time ago...mussie he write that thing!

Finally, I don't care a damn what most of us are...or used to be! We don't have to be that tomorrow! So long as we pick ourselves up....ta hell with what used to be us...and forge a future of "who we Ger be"! We een no better or worse that a white, green or blue man! :cutie:

No race is perfect but this article hits on every major reason why we black people are destroying OURSELVES. Who has the highest rates of teenage pregnancy, who has the hishest rates of single parent homes, who has the highest rates of men in prison, who has the highest rates of gang bangers. WE DO, WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

Becuase of those things that this article hits on

I have to address some corrections. The bit about Tommy Hilfiger was all a RUMOUR. He went on Operah and declared it false, Operah declared it false.

Also to the person who said that their class found the article sterotypical. I know it sounds bad BUT Sterotypes are GENERAL TRUTHS. The problem with stero types are they are GENERALy TRUE but what ever the sterotype, it is true that the majority of the sterotyped populous falls under the sterotype.

Lastly the part about Black who have moved away from the "BET" culture doesnt like to help others or give back etc. Think about this, those who do not "check" have every right to, WHY? Think about it you can bring a horse to water but you cant make him drink. Black folk that have overcome the sterotypes try to help other but they would not let go of the BET culture or points one and two.

ya tell them u need to cut back on this and invest in that if u eva want a house. response: man, i want that expedition, man i want 200 dollar tennis, man i have to get my nails done every week.

when u try to tell some about the damaging effects of the BET culture they say you tryin to ruin their way of life. how can you ruin a culture thats filled with illigitimate children, teenage pregnancy, gang bangers, high incariration rates, high aids rates?

I would'nt even waist my time responding to this nosense. In my view every race have their issues. I try to love every body regardless of their race, even though i know that some of our white Bahamians don't like or even support us black Bahamians. They have to understand that they need the blacks for their business to be successful, so they mights well love us.

The author of this text have to be a racist person who don't like black people. I'm sure that there are alot more inportant issues in america concerning white people than to site down & spend time to write about some of the short comeings of black people. They could have written about the thousands of white people who are homeless in america, who don't live nowear but on the streets. They could have talk about their wicked evil goverment spending billons of tax payers dollars in a senseless war in irac than to worrie about the shortcomeings of some black people. They could have written about their own young white Americans useing dangerous drugs. I mean i just don't get it. In 1993 i travel to new york for the frist time in my life & i could'nt belive my eays to see thousands of people liveing on the streets. I said in my mind the most powerful & rich country in the world allow people to live on the dam streets wow it is all a flam.
