grouper2 03-07-07, - 05:10 PM Do our government have owner ship in MORTON SALT? If not why not?
I ask these questions, because of the industrial matter they had with their employees about cutting days. Zns had a picture of the operation on tv and looks to me the salt is being taken from the sea. And today in the guardian a writer is writing about the same thing.
Am sure if you do the maths the sales of salt would be more than or on par with tourism yearly income.
It need to be Bahamian own.
Let me hear what you have to say.

Boy you need to get out more. Abaco exporting potcakes on a regular basis!! Check the Abaco message board (coconuttelegraph). They just recently sent some to Georgia. They're in foster homes awaiting adoption! My sister in Florida got herself one potcake and took him back to live the "american dream". They have pictures on that board of all kinda potcake frolickin' in snow, sleeping on cushy sofas, ridin' in style....potcakes gone abroad!!

Perhaps if someone (with the government putting up some of the funds) opens a plant on another Island?

Why does the government have to own it? If anything the Bahamian people themselves should be wanting the shares.

All the land is reserved for the atlantis clones.
But either way I cant see another island withas much favorble conditions for salt as Inagua with all the aridness, it's the most productive of any island to produce salt.
Our problem is we think we are a little dot, when in actuality the Bahamians own almost half the landmass (perhaps exagerating here but ist sizable) of the reigion and has the most expansive marine resouces of this region. We should be a powerhouse. We have Island nations the size of our cays who are making more headway than us, and the Bahamas can be like those island nations multiplied by 700 If we actually know where we stand. A SMALL NATION? PAH!
Das some serious thing though, salt to us should be like oil to those oil countries.
I don't think salt and oil are fair comparisons. Salt can be found where ever sea water is (and other places as well.) Also salt is a lot cheaper than oil and easyer to "make/mine."

Someone should open one where viable fa true but for God sake stay away from any Government involvement. I sure if the right greased pockets are presented with a sensible business plan they would consider it a sound investment. Get government involved and you ein ga have no salt to export at the end of the year.
