View Full Version : Burger King
so we see there is a new Burger King opening. I will admit I prefer a whopper over the rest, but id still like some place that sells regular food, why cant someone bring in something like dennies or Fridays, etc?? All we have is fast food and fried chicken (or pizza) at night in Nassau, all the places that do sell any Bahamian food worth eating closes at like 3pm. Why do Bahamians eat dinner in the daytime, then greasy chicken at night??
OK news cafe is open til 10 on PI, but then thats driving over the bridge, plus dont like their food all that much. Plus it isnt all that cheap. Then the restaurants .. Sbarro is only in certain areas like Cable Beach, but still once again small portions and expensive. As for Subway, they tend to close at their own times, and i dont really care for a sandwhich at night. Plus they are all done, been there, including Micky Dees.
Maybe im asking for too much, wanting to eat what I want when i want, even if its 3am in the morning and I feel like some eggs and corn beef hash. Maybe its because i know its available elsewhere in the World, like in the US and other developed countries. Maybe its because the only places open that time of night are barred up chicken shacks or policed or drive throughs only. Maybe crime has a huge thing to do with it (why none of these fast food places have any kind of real video surveillance in place is dumbfounding! You know, where you can actually see a persons face on a recording, not just a blurred wide angle view from a cheap mini dome or bullet cam). Maybe i should just stay home and eat a ham sandwich when im too busy working to cook. Maybe i am forgetting we live in the 3rd world still! :o
I guess im gonna have to start cooking more! :what:
Anyway, what do you think this new Burger King will be like, since it is owned by same people a KFC< will it be cleaner, more hygenic, better service? KFC is pretty good but still not great on hygene, been in the back of all of them myself. Then again they are cooking very greasy food. Their service though is very good on the whole as far as fast service.
I think it will be much better than before, but, what about service, even Wendies right next door has pretty bad service. I wonder if it has to do with salaries and who they can get for them. Will know soon enough as its opening up real soon.

Rory with your way of thinking in general, it doesnt actally help The Bahamas to make any progress.
Maybe you should move to USA so that you can stuff your self anytime you want.

ok .. I didnt say start a new thread in this thread, its a simple post.
cipricoangel 01-06-04, - 06:30 PM I think burger kings food tastes the same. They may be more cleaner and up to par for now, but i am sure as time goes by they will get the same reputation as a untidy place. I had some chicken nuggets or whatever you wanna call it from them, and honestly, no way in this world were those stuff chicken. I opened it up to see what it looked like and it looked like cotton. I have never seen chicken like that, ever. They might as well call them cotton nuggets! As far as I am concerned for good tasting burgers and nuggets, Wendy's is still the best value for your buck. so we see there is a new Burger King opening. I am with you there. I stood in line for what seemed hours. I was not impressed when I got my food. It was OK but not much more.
YorickBrown 01-07-04, - 07:33 AM Did you all know that Bajan's actually protest when a foreign fast food restaurant attempts to open up in their country? Now that is cultural pride! At least they know how to stand together. Fat attack - Monday 05, January-2004

Professor Henry Fraser
by Mike King
THERE IS A LINK between the increase in the number of fast food restaurants in Barbados and obesity, say physicians Professor Henry Fraser, Dr Colin Alert and Dr Malcolm Grant.
And most of the meals served in these establishments can lead to weight gain, they say.
Grant, a general practitioner, has even called for a punitive fat tax on restaurants which serve “unhealthy” meals and for the role of the health inspectorate to broaden, allowing them to make routine daily checks.
“We have adopted a fast food culture in recent years because they appeal to our laziness, pressure from our children to go to their play parks, and the prices are relatively inexpensive.
“The high fat and salt content means the meals tend to appeal more to our taste buds, but we have to get past that. The unhealthy meals certainly outweigh the healthy foods at those restaurants,” Grant said.
The doctor is in no doubt fast food outlets are “facilitating an unhealthy lifestyle and Government has a role to play”. He thinks that obesity, which can lead to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis, is a public health failure.
“The fast food industry is not going to regulate itself. It is a money-making business. That is where Government comes into play. There have got to be some controls.
“The fast food industry is doing more harm than good. They are indirectly promoting obesity,” he added.
Grant said there were lessons to be learnt from the British experience.
“Britain’s rate of obesity is the highest in Europe and it is noteworthy they have the highest rate of fast food outlets per unit area in Europe.
“Obesity is very difficult to cure. There should be laws requiring mandatory labelling of all fast foods, specifying in the simplest of language the total calorie content, the cholesterol and fat content and the sodium and sugar content,” Grant added.
Fraser, director of the Chronic Disease Research Centre, agreed and called for Government to develop an agricultural policy that supported the farmer and promoted the production of cheap vegetables.
“It’s a multi-faceted problem. The fast food restaurants serve plenty of unhealthy meals, but they can’t take all of the blame.
“We have got to take responsibility for what we eat. We have to stay away from the fried chips, fried chicken and pizza.
“We have been getting steadily fatter. We have to eat more fruits and vegetables, but those items must be available at a reasonable price,” he added. “If people have the perception that vegetables are too expensive, they will go for what is cheap.”
Fraser, also dean of the School of Clinical Medicine and Research at the University of the West Indies, called on fast food businesses to promote healthier choices and find ways “of ensuring their main meal choices are healthier and cheaper”.
Fellow physicians Colin Alert and Malcolm Howitt said they would like fast food restaurants to diversify their meals.
“Fast food businesses have to be more conscious of what they produce. Fatty foods will always make us put on weight. If they diversify to produce a more balanced meal, that would be a good thing,” Alert said. Howitt said people were more health conscious than ever before but acknowledged there needed to be an improvement in the nutritional content of what was generally served at the fast food restaurants.
YorickBrown, the article you posted is right on. We do have to be careful what we eat.
In the words of George Carlin, "A 99c hamburger is not such a bargain particularly when you factor in the cost of a heart bypass."
Quantum Leap 01-07-04, - 02:43 PM Truthfully I don't like Burger Kings food. The fries is disgusting and the nuggets taste like rubber. Infact Nassau nugget are like cotton and Nashville's nuggets are like rubber.
A friend told me they went to the newly opened Burger King and they did not have any burgers, onion rings and fries. Is this the way one opens an establishment?
Subway, needs to closed down, due to the fact that they don't give you your moneys worth. I think they need to open a Jersey Mikes!
Delroy 01-07-04, - 10:36 PM Breakfast is good at Burger King :D
Breakfast is good at Burger King :D
actually, being a fast food conniseur, I prefer McDonalds Breakfast over all, BUT, Wendies has the CHEAPEST breakfast, so I go there when I am near broke or only have quaters to spend! :-)
Burger King's Whoppers are the best fast food burger compared to Wendies 'patties' which dont even taste like a ham burger, or McDonalds little Nuke tasting burgers which if you leave them in the fridge, they taste like vomit after wards.
The rest of Burger King Food is nothing special, as far as fish burgers etc, they are not worth it, Whoppers are all they have going for themselves. And yes, they ran out the other day!!
Kentucky Fried Chicken has the fastest service over all. Their ckicken sandwhich is much better than any of the others.
Fast Food Rating - KFC, MCDonalds, Wendies, and Burger King:::
FRIES: KFC has the Best Fries, with McDonalds coming in 2nd, Wendies, 3rd, and Burger King 4th.
BURGER: Burger King Whopper is the most real tastin burger, McDonalds in2nd with their McBurger Supreme, and Wendies in 3rd with their Big Clasic.
CHICKEN SANDWHICH: KFC in first, McDonalds in 2nd, Wendies in 3rd, Burger King in 4th
FISH SANDWHICH: McDonalds then Burger King, the other 2 dont have them, and basically both arent that good.
BREAKFAST: McDonalds is 1st by far, with a large selection, Burger King is 2nd with the Croisantwich, and Wendies in 3rd. (did you know Duncin Donuts has the Croisantwhich also, in the US!)
SERVICE (in the bahamas): KFC, Wendies, MCdonalds, Burger King.
Ok, so yeah, I eat way too much fast food from these places, but then thats just how it is.
ROry
Great report Rory! I agree with you on everything except the fries. McDonald’s is the best. As for breakfast I can’t really say. I am a fried eggs and bacon man myself. Of course the best breakfast is boiled fish and johnny cake!

I don't think we need a thread like that.
I am sure that Ronnie will find the answer to that question some day.
