View Full Version : CRIME -- The Monster Within

Again this morning, the newscast mentioned steps we are taking to help put a stop to crime. I think we would do well to go back in time, perhaps to the time the numbers racket entered the Bahamas (or even before) to determine systems and methods we can implement to help eradicate this wickedness in our midst. I believe once we can take a step by step journey from way back to the present time, examining the various situations and bad influences we have allowed to gradually grow and fester in our nation, then we can possibly grab this ugly monster called crime by the scruff of its neck and practically wipe it out of our community.

Personally, I don't have anything against my Rasta brothers and sisters, but I do not think their religion has a good influence on the young people of the Bahamas.

In the early days of the drug trade, it seems that our authorities did not even have a clue that it was here! And like the numbers racket it was allowed to fester and become ingrained among our people, to the extent that it now seems impossible to be wiped out!

Then, God forbid, Gangs came into being! And when they first started, I felt completely certain that that was an easy one for us to deal with -- my Heavens, we were dealing with children! AND I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHY WE ALLOWED CHILDREN TO ORGANIZE THEMSELVES TO THE EXENT TO MESS UP THEIR LIVES AND WREAK HAVOC ON THE LIVES OF OTHERS! CHILDREN KILLING CHILDREN IN OUR BAHAMALAND??? EVEN AFRAID TO LEAVE THE GANG BECAUSE THEY COULD BE KILLED FOR SO DOING!? This business of gangs in the Bahamas should have been nipped in the bud and stopped before it even started!

And recently, we have allowed the likes of 50 cents to bring their kind of degrading experiences and behaviour to our shores!

So with all the bad influences of the past being entrenched here, it seems the methods we are planning to use now are only band-aid approaches, some kind of stop-gap measures which would only deal with the symptoms of this dreaded disease called crime! We have long ago taken a defeatist attitude in uprooting this disease from our midst. We are suffering because we have allowed all kinds of criminal and anti-social behaviours to plague us for far too long -- Yes, the chickens have now come home to roost! Is it a case that we know what to do but do not want to do what should be done?

There are two proposols, I believe which could have made a big dent into crime. Why Oh why was the National Youth Service not implemented when it was first proposed? And Why oh why did we stop the Jumbey Village Cultural Centre. I am sure if these two organizations were in place and operating today, the Bahamas (or at least New Providence) would have been crime free for all practical purposes!

But we can't lose hope. We have to get to the bottom of this crime situation and solve it, no matter what; our lives depend on solving it! We can no longer continue to drop the ball! We have a Government! We have Law Enforcement Agencies! We have a Social Services Department! And we have God.

So with all of these powers and privileges at our disposal, pray, tell me why can't we extirpate this monster from our nation!?

Again this morning, the newscast mentioned steps we are taking to help put a stop to crime. I think we would do well to go back in time, perhaps to the time the numbers racket entered the Bahamas (or even before) to determine systems and methods we can implement to help eradicate this wickedness in our midst. I am glad you noticed because it seems like the police and the Government has turned a blind eye to this issue. And now the Central Bank is wondering why so many Bahamians are in dept.
Personally, I don't have anything against my Rasta brothers and sisters, but I do not think their religion has a good influence on the young people of the Bahamas. All Rastas are doing is fulfilling the roles of fathers and leaders which are almost non-existent in this country.
I would suggest that you go back in time a little further and you will find that this is the head of the snake.
In the early days of the drug trade, it seems that our authorities did not even have a clue that it was here! And like the numbers racket it was allowed to fester and become ingrained among our people, to the extent that it now seems impossible to be wiped out!Another leadership problem!
If we had leaders with true visions back then; we today would not have this problem.

Back to the problem of fathers and leaders again. Do you see a trend here?
If a child feels that he is loved more in a criminal ring than in his own home then something is really wrong.
And recently, we have allowed the likes of 50 cents to bring their kind of degrading experiences and behaviour to our shores!Leadership problem again.
The government is responsible for who enters the country.

Another Leadership problem.
The government doesn't care about investing in the Youth.
All of their attention is focused on a dying industry called Tourism.
I thank God for people like Jeff Lloyd who have recognized that this is a serious issue and have started programs such as Y.E.A.S.T (Youth Empowerment & Skills Training institute) to help stop it from going out of control.
But we can't lose hope. We have to get to the bottom of this crime situation and solve it, no matter what; our lives depend on solving it! We can no longer continue to drop the ball! We have a Government! We have Law Enforcement Agencies! We have a Social Services Department! And we have God.Only one of those you mentioned we can depend on.

I thank you so much Delroy for your skillful analysis of the situation. Puts me in mind of a program not long ago in which Dr Miles Munro just about boiled all the issues facing us down to leadership problems. And looking at your response, I believe you are correct.

I am also minded about a brief event prior to the last general election election: The good gentleman who was elected to lead his party made a short speech after being elected. To my utter disgust, he rambled on and on about how he was so proud to be a member of that great party -- and in that short speech, in so many words, all he said was how great his party was and how happy he was to be a part of it!!! NOT ONE word about this great country and the Bahamian people and what was his program for us. And instantly I felt that this man was not fit for public life!

I am also minded about the time when I asked my pastor if he did not think that maybe, just maybe, God is punishing us for voting to power such uncaring persons -- somewhat like the way He used to use those ungodly nations to punish the Israelites for their disobedience to Him. (My pastor only laughed!).

Again, I am minded about the Gomez report, which I believe was a very good report. Also, another committee sat and presented a report on crime. I don't think any of these were ever implemented. Seems that our authorities are just messing with our minds. If you are dying and someone gives you a remedy which can heal you, why wouldn't you use it?

It is said that a room full of children can solve any problem!

I believe that a room full of sensible, caring leaders who would conduct well-organized brainstorming sessions would be able to solve any and every problem facing our Bahamaland.

But sometimes I get the feeling that they deliberately just DON'T want to solve them! I hope I am wrong!

It's a very simple concept; "Where there is no vision the people perish".
A leader is one who stands in front and so being in front he should be able to see things before everyone else.

If someone; who is not the leader is able to see something before the leader does then the leader has fallen. If the leader has fallen then those behind him will trip over him and fall also.

So what must we do to stop this domino effect?
We must place a strong man at the front of the line who is able to bare the pressure of a falling nation and at the same time move the fallen leader to the side so they can continue on.

And instantly I felt that this man was not fit for public life!Thats just plain old politics.

I am also minded about the time when I asked my pastor if he did not think that maybe, just maybe, God is punishing us for voting to power such uncaring persons -- somewhat like the way He used to use those ungodly nations to punish the Israelites for their disobedience to Him. (My pastor only laughed!).Actually I would laugh also because the last Person to be really "punished" on this earth was God Himself and He was punished by men. We also continue to punish Him on a daily basis.

I believe that after the Cross the only punishment we receive is from ourselves.

Again, I am minded about the Gomez report, which I believe was a very good report. Also, another committee sat and presented a report on crime. I don't think any of these were ever implemented. See Wise Words worth Heeding – Part 1 (http://www.bahamasissues.com/showthread.php?t=561) and Part 2 (http://www.bahamasissues.com/showthread.php?t=575) by Apostle Cedric Moss if you havent done so already. He has some insights on that very same topic.

It is said that a room full of children can solve any problem!A room full of children with a good teacher can solve all problems.
Every class needs a good teacher and every nation needs a good leader.
Those are just the rules of life.

Thanks again Delroy. I was hoping that others would join this important discussion. If we get about six or so other persons giving their views, at the end of the day we can possibly come up with som good strategies that the police or the Constitution Committee could use. I guess we will have to wait until the Christmas rush is over.

And thanks for the articles by Apostle Cedric Moss. They are great. When I first joined I became highly respectful of his thoughts and views in the 50 cent thread. And now I hold your views in the same high regard.

(By the way, I missed many of the great discussions over the last few months -- seems that I used to be advised when a new thread starts via email, but not any more. Do you know anything about this?). Thanks again.
