THere has been some new Pitbull activity in the Coral Harbour area. A woman and her mother, daughter were held hostage for a whole evening by a Pitbull and two Mastics. The Police could not respond due to something else going on at near the Airport. When they did respond (the next day) they just sat in their car and beeped the horn for the owners to come out. The owners never did and the POlice left. If you live in Coral Harbour in the South area, do not walk around at night on the streets. The owner does not care, neither can the POlice help you. It has been my experience that when you see a Pit Bull on a lead you will find and idiot on the other end! gonja2 10-10-04, - 07:51 PM There is a statement thats not true about what you said about pitbulls. The problem is because the people who usually own those kinds of dogs are younger people especially our teenage boys who tend to want those kinds of dogs because of the history of them bieng bad and visiouce, which came along because of the people in older times fighting them as a sport. So usually they tend to treat them in a way like for example torchering them or playin with them in a rough manner and aslo by giving them food not meant for any dog to eat like ,red meat or raw meat that in a way drives the dog somewhat crazy or making them want that kind of meat. So you cant band the dog,it's not the dog its the owner (mostley teenagers that train them wrong or give them inappropriate foods). So I think that the breeder or seller should find out information about them and should make sure the seller has a family consisting of not only a mislead child who only wants the dog because of of the history behind it but as a regular family dogs cause they can be good family dogs if given attention and care like any other dog. Point is when pitbull 'does' snap, it wont let go Another dog to watch out for is a Chow, they are unpredictable, and can attack anyone, owner or not, for no known reasons. Ive been bitten by 2 of them in the past. k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 10-11-04, - 12:14 AM There is a statement thats not true about what you said about pitbulls. Dogs are natural carnivores so why wouldnt they want meat?. I've seen a PUPPY literally lock jaws on a person (and no the owner did not train or beat the dog to get this way). Sure, i will give you the fact that any dog can be docile and be a good pet but it is is an animal with underlying characteristics and instincts. Given that, any dog can bite but since the pitbull is so genetically geared towards being as efficient as possible at it, it deserves all of this increased attention. gonja2 10-11-04, - 01:15 AM Over the last 20 years or so, the pit bull has fallen victim to the careless deeds of unethical breeders, irresponsible and even shady owners. This bad combination, along with the handiwork of a sensationalistic media, has done a terrible thing to our beloved breed. As a result, myths, misdeeds, misunderstanding and hysteria abound! When you walk around with your bulldog, you'll no doubt encounter people who'll be afraid of her or who give you trouble for having a pit bull. gonja2 10-11-04, - 01:43 AM No more vicious than ATTS.org,golden retrievers, beagles or other popular dogs! In a recent study of 122 dog breeds by the American Temperament Testing Society (ATT), pit bulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. That's as good or better than beagles ... 78.2%, and golden retrievers ... 83.2%.You never hear about attacks from other dogs but when a pitbull does something everyone's so quick to jump to hold that agaist them I've seen other attacks and heard other attacks from dogs like the german shepherd, golden retrievers, and even poodles. My niece even experienced an bite from a poodle. I didnt here it on the news or here people talking about it. But thats the dog everybody's targetting THE PITBULL why?I dont hear about other dog attacks! Rory 10-11-04, - 01:56 AM No more vicious than ATTS.org,golden retrievers, beagles or other popular dogs! But thats the dog everybody's targetting THE PITBULL why?I dont hear about other dog attacks! because normally when a pitbul bites it either kills or terribly mames someone, kids at least. other attacks are normally not as bad, they dont 'lock' onto their victims, so thats probably why it is published more and especially if it is a kid. I mean a poodle, even a chow does not do that much when it bites you, compared to a pittbul, and even a rotti or shepherd. You know which ones like to attack the most, I would have though it was something like a shizoo, or the little ones that look like sausages, cant remember the name off hand, those suckers love to bite yah! :-) Teniel 10-12-04, - 01:50 AM I absolutely loathe owners who do not properly fence in their dogs, particularly if the dog has an aggressive nature. I can remeber so many times as a child having to sprint home, or walk around the corner, or cross the street, just to avoid the neighbours viscious dogs. Mind you I was always on the public road. It was fustrating for me, and very scary, and gave me what I call a canine phobia. I would not walk in a residential neighbourhood in Nassau I did not know for fear that someone's dog will come bounding out from behind the yard, and lunge at my neck. I had a near death experience a few years ago invovling some dogs through Bradley Street in Palmdale. I was walking home form city markets carrying two large bags of grocery, when all of a sudden these two dogs ran out of a yard with no fence, and lunged at me. All I could do was stand my ground, no sense in running when they were that close to me, especially with large bags in my hand. That shook me for the entire day, and I was absolutely pissed off. The government needs to implement harsher cannine regulations and fines for idiotic dog owners, who use the phrase, "My dog don bite", and leave their fences open so that their dogs can bite, scar, or even kill every red blooded thing passing in it's wake. Well what do you think the dog has teeth for?No one, not even the owner can predict a dogs behaviour, and at any moment an animal's nature can go from docile to aggressive. I dont want to see animal cruelty or anything like that, but I know that I dont want to ever get bitten by a dog, or see anyone particularly kids get bitten or even worse be killed by a dog. Because god forbid if it should happen to me(bitten by a dog without provocation) and it wont be mine cuz I will never own one, I would pray for the ability to wipe this earth clean of any agressive dogs and their idiotic owners. Whew! Had to get that off of my chest folks. Rory 10-12-04, - 02:00 AM I Totally agree, owners that dont fence in their animals should be fined at the least. Unforunately for the animal if they pick it up it would probably be put to sleep, its just not fair. I chase dogs from my yard at 3am in the AM every other night, packs of dogs jump my wall and come into tear my garbage apart! I throw small rocks on the ground near them in an attempt to scare them way, never to come close to hitting them as I would never lower myself to injure an animal stray or not - but it doesnt work anyway, they still come back. Only thing I can do is spray my garbage CAN with air freshner or baygon to keep them away, but they still knock it over and drag the garbage off down the main road!!! Anyway, last point, if someone lets a dog roam free, like open fence etc, then that dog is NOT THEIR DOG, it SHOULD be considered a stray and should be picked up and taken off the street. Worse is the ones that leave thier fence open and have the dog tied up with a chain! They should be jailed!!! k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 02-14-05, - 09:00 PM today i see someone walking their pitbull towards the park (where i was) and but as they continued to come closer i can see that it wasn't on a chain or leash. i didnt even hang around to see if the dog was good natured or not. These things need to get regulated. CG 02-15-05, - 02:39 PM I Totally agree, owners that dont fence in their animals should be fined at the least. That should put them off! Shane 06-21-05, - 09:48 PM Um let me say this quite quick. I read some of the post that were entered practically all of them were bad mouthing pit bulls. I don't own any pit bulls nor do I wish to in the future let me say this. Nor I like pit bulls at all, I have a let me say a disliking towards them. The first message said about this girl couple years ago what got killed. Well who ever post this up why won't you tell the entire story. The pit bull did not attack her in the road, side walk etc. she was attacked in the pit bulls own yard. She climbed on a ladder and fell into the dogs yard. Unfortuanatly the dog was killed by police which I think it was not right, because the she entered the dogs domain , but I think the owners of the dog should have paid for the arrangements. I know I sound cold hearted and the reason is because it was the truth. If it were my child I would personaly wanted to kill that dog but fair is fair. As in my years of being a dog fancier and doing some dog research, some one put mentioned that some breeds are unpredictable. As a matter of fact all breeds are unpredictable to the 3lb chihuahua to the to the +200lbs mastiff. I have seen giant dogs with bad reputation so gentle and some off the toy breeds whose loving temperment is suppose to be the hallmark of all toy breeds aggressive. A quite know fact you can teach a dog what you want it to be. I have to chows when at home they can be the most tenacious guard dogs but when we are in public they are the most docile of them all out there. This is how I wanted them to be because I wanted something that would act mannerly out in public to basically show off to tell the truth, and at home guards to deter any one from having second thoughts about evn entering the yard, let alone the house where they live. When I was at the BKC there was this large german shepherd 130lbs the most gentlest thing i've seen in a while act so mannerly sitting by his owners side and acting civilized and not rough with a cocker spaniel. Then there was this toy poodle who ever knew a poodle had that much aggression snapping and snarling at this white womans heals so aggressively, when the police dogs where showing off there stuff. Basically if you notice majority of the pit bulls own today are owned by young teen boys. Rumors around Nassau is that there are pit fighting happening. An american servae says the american cocker spaniel and some of the other small breeds are more anxious to bite that that of the pit bull. If you notice when someone gets attacked it basically these main dogs, pit bulls, dobermans, rotties, sometimes chows, and other large breeds on the news. Notice this is predjiduce at its highest they never put on the news a labrdor, golden retreiver etc attack a person. People are so rushy to go ban pit bulls but they'll never go ban retreivers, cocker spaniels so on. But i really hope yall relize that the pot cake are the dogs in the bahamas that do the most attacking espeacially when people are on bikes, just simply walking and espeacially carrying there pooch for a walk. Really cause about half a yinna what in here what bad mouthin these dogs never even had one let alone a pit bull. Thats all I have to say for now. Rory 06-21-05, - 10:37 PM Thats all I have to say for now. thank gawd! :dancer2: |
